The Bus Ride…by Alessandro , Andre, and Dominick

It all started when Ms. Fox got a call from the bus driver that we’ll be going earlier than expected. We walked in from the cold and damp rain to get on the bus.

The bus had seen better days! The heater was broken and it did not have a defroster. The parents and teachers clutched their seats in fear as the foggy windows made it impossible for the driver to see. Ms. Staci was especially nervous!

The bus driver rolled down the windows and turned on the air condition in hopes of defogging the windows. Gusts of wind and icy rain flew in the windows of the cold, damp bus. When we finally stopped we almost got stuck in the mud…

And that was only the beginning!

Everyone was happy to finally get off the bus. But not for long! We tried our best to ditch the puddles but there was no avoiding the walk in the mud. Eventually, we could not go any further. We had to stand in the muddy line that seemed to extend on forever.

“Blah, Blah, Blah”It felt like we were waiting for hours. After waiting for hours, our group was divided up and sent to listen to a redcoat or bluecoat talk about ???

After standing in the long, rainy, muddy line, it was very hard to hear the soldiers. Now we were in a big rainy, muddy group. All we could hear from the historical figures was, “blah, blah and blah.”

After the red and blue coat gibberish, we were finally set free.

Freedom! When the groups were set free, some immediately headed for lunch, afraid the weather might get in the way of our ability to eat. Cold and famished, many students tried to take comfort in their wet lunches.

There were just a few places to go to warm up for a minute. Kids who could blend in and look like Colonists were able to hang out in one of the few warm booths. One soldier somehow started a fire with a piece of metal and some sort of chalk. Another booth had some ladies baking cookies and crackers. I wished I could stay there all day.

PART ONE:I jumped five feet in the air when I heard that first shot. People rushed to a roped area. The “Revolutionary War” was starting!

It was super loud and everyone was screaming and yelling. The British and Colonists soldiers walked out onto the battlefield. After about 30 minutes, the war was over. Then Colonists had won!

Part Two:We walked across a muddy trench to a prickly rope where the war was. People had guns on each side of the field. We heard and loud boom. Men were down and so on. People shouted out “BOOOOO,” to the redcoats.

It was super crowded and freezing. We were soaked with water all over us and many of us even got stuck in the mud as we made our way from the war scene. My shoes looked like they were covered with dog doo but they were really just covered in mud.

Our groups found many amazing booths to explore. There had some amazing things like recorders, guns, swords, and jewelry. Some of us shopped at the store. Others caught a beautiful violin show. One group stopped in an old time doctor’s office. The nice patient died .

Early Departure

We heard Mrs. King announce that we’d be leaving early. Nobody complained! We were soaked down to the bone! It took a long time to round up over 100 fifth graders. When we finally were able to board the bus, it didn’t even matter that it was cold, wet and foggy. We were heading back to our warm, cozy classrooms at Navarrete. It was a memorable fifth grade fieldtrip. Luckily, we all survived!
