QUESTION OF THE WEEK: When have I judged someone unkindly without taking the time

to look deeper? What can I do to remember to allow Christ to illuminate my way?

Samuel was one of the great leaders of ancient Israel. Called by God while he

was still young, he was recognized as a prophet and a seer before becoming a

military and political leader. Yet he expected that God would select one of

Jesse’s older sons as the new king. If not even this eminently wise and capable

leader has the insight required to choose his successor, how much more must

we depend on God for the decisions we must make. If nothing else, we must re-

sist the urge to make a snap judgment based on appearances alone.

“Like night and day,” we say when speaking of two things that are completely

different. Paul would approve of that idiom, for he contrasts light and darkness

in the reading we hear today: “You were once darkness, but now you are light in

the Lord” (Ephesians 5:8). While in darkness (whose “fruitless works” can still

tempt them) the Ephesians were unable or unwilling to realize goodness, right-

eousness, or truth. With the light of Christ they gained insight. In the early Chris-

tian era, one of the traditional names for baptism was “illumination.” As bap-

tized Christians, let us shine forth the light of Christ to illuminate our world.

The intellectual laziness of the Pharisees is exposed today. Rather than take the

time to use good judgment, they immediately dismiss Jesus as a sinner. He did

not keep the Sabbath! It did not matter that he cured a blind man. It wouldn’t

matter if he had conquered death; keeping the law was more important. If noth-

ing else, judging exclusively by the letter of the law made life easier for them.

Illuminated by Christ’s light, we are called to make the effort to shine a light on

all aspects of a person, event, or issue, so we can make a good and true judg-

ment.

PRAY FOR THEIR SERVICE: Several of our members and relatives of

members are currently serving in the

military. Please pray for them and their

families. We pray for their safety and

when on a mission, their quick return home to family and

friends.

Covid-19: A Prayer of Solidarity For all who have contracted coronavirus, We pray for care and healing. For those who are particularly vulnerable, we pray for safety

and protection. For all who experience fear or anxiety, we pray for peace of mind and spirit.

For affected families who are facing difficult decisions between food on the table or public safety, we pray for policies that recognize

their plight. For those who do not have adequate health insurance, we pray that no family will face financial burdens alone.

For those who are afraid to access care due to immigration status, we pray for recognition of the God-given dignity of all. For our

brothers and sisters around the world, we pray for shared solidarity. For public officials and decisionmakers, we pray for wisdom and

guidance.

Father, during this time may your Church be a sign of hope, comfort and love to all. Grant peace, comfort & healing. Be with us, Lord.

Amen.

February 11, 2020 Corpus Christi Council Minutes

The CCC meeting was held Tuesday February 11, 2020 at the Holy Trinity church hall with Father David, Bob

B.,Lynda B., Scott H., and Alice L. in attendance. The meeting was called to order by Bob B. at 7:00 p.m. and

Father David led us in prayer. Scott H. moved and Lynda B. seconded the minutes be approved all voted in

favor.

OLD BUSINESS:

The group agreed the Ghana presentation done by Father David went very well. We had good attendance and

great food.

Sunday March 1, 2020 will be our family bowling and pizza party at 4:00. Bob will check with Joe R. on 4-H

meetings to see if this date interferes, Alice will check with the Rec Center to see if this is a good evening to

hold our event and with Linda Kerkhoff of the finance council to see if they will fund our event. Bob will con-

tact Jennifer to get it in the bulletin and to get a sign-up sheet in both churches.

Family softball in Exira was put on hold until we get closer to the event to plan.

Time and Talent Sheets have been gathered Jean M. compiled the results of Exira’s lists. Alice L. will compile

the Audubon sheets and get both parishes lists published in the bulletin. Father would like to see us have

workshops for lectors, altar servers, Eucharistic Ministers and other groups to make sure all know what their

duties are.

Bathroom handicapped sign has been installed at St. Patrick’s and diaper changing stations have been in-

stalled at St. Patrick’s church and the parish center.

NEW BUSINESS

Communal Penance is being researched: Readings, opening prayers, reflection and general absolution have

been known to happen in other parishes. We feel this may increase our numbers attending penance celebra-

tions. We will be looking into this and try to set up during Lent if possible. Sunday March 29 is St. Patrick’s

Penance Celebration with visiting priests. Father is happy with the Wednesday night children’s Mass he is cut-

ting the homily shorter and bringing it to the kids level. He is wondering how to sustain and keep the children

interested.

Scott H. reported Randy Wanniger has been hired to handle the skid loader snow removal for the church and

parish center. His rate is $65/hr and thinks approx. one hour at each place should be adequate.

Father David will celebrate his anniversary ordination in July 2021, we will look forward to honoring him with a

party next year.

A Lenten Mission was discussed Alice will talk to Deacon Fred to see if he would be available and willing to

have a mission for us. In the future we will be setting up Lenten missions earlier in the year.

Upcoming events: Audubon outdoor mass June 14th and Exira outdoor mass September 20th.

Scott will be continuing with sidewalk repair as soon as weather permits.

Father David will be on vacation April 30 until first week in June.

Father comment he thinks our events have good organization and are being enjoyed by all and our parish is a

parish of love. Bob said Fathers outreach to families is going well and wants him to continue with better

weather approaching and offered to go with Father to community events he would like to attend.

Alice brought up Lenten fish frys are fast approaching and hopes everyone will attend and help out whenever

they are able.

The CCC next meeting will be April 14th at the Audubon Rectory at 7:00 p.m.

Scott H. motioned and Lynda B. seconded meeting adjourned at 8:17 p.m.

Father closed with prayer.

The CCC invites your feedback please contact any of us and we will take your concerns back to the group. Fa-

ther David, Bob Blomme, Jean Madsen, Scott Hansen, Lynda Best, Joe Rasmussen, and Alice Lauridsen.
