2019 Annual Catholic Appeal “Come, Follow Me…and share the Word”

During the last few weeks, many parish fami-lies received a letter from Cardinal Cupich request-ing your participation in pledging to the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. We ask that you respond as gener-ously as possible. The Appeal supports both Parish and Archdi-ocesan ministries, and funds services that are of great help here in our Parish. For example, Appeal funds support. This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Come, Follow Me…and share the Word.” We have all re-ceived God’s love. By financially supporting the ministries and services funded by the Annual Catho-lic Appeal, we help to extend God’s love to many, many others. As you review the mailing from Cardinal Cupich, take note of those services that directly sup-port the work of our parish and please give generous-ly. Campaña Católica Anual 2019 "Ven, sígueme... y comparte la Palabra"

En las últimas semanas, muchas familias de nuestra parroquia recibieron una carta del Cardenal Cupich en la que les pide que participen haciendo una promesa de donativo a la Campaña Católica Anual 2019. Les pedimos que responda tan genero-samente como sea posible. La Campaña provee apoyo a ministerios pa-rroquiales y arquidiocesanos y financia servicios que son de gran ayuda aquí en nuestra parroquia. Este año, el tema de la Campaña es "Ven, sígueme... y comparte la Palabra". Todos hemos reci-bido el amor de Dios. Al apoyar financieramente a los ministerios y servicios financiados por la CCA, ayudamos a que el amor de Dios llegue a muchas, muchas personas más. Cuando revise el material enviado por el Car-denal Cupich, y por favor, dé una aportación genero-sa. Cuando nuestra parroquia alcance el objetivo de reunir $17,754.74, en promesas pagadas, se nos de-volverá el 100% de las contribuciones adicionales que recibamos para utilizarlas en nuestra parroquia.

Luego de la última aparición ocurrida en16 de ju-lio, fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Bernadette ingre-só a la orden religiosa de las hermanas enfermeras, a la edad de 22 años, y permaneció allí hasta su muerte a los 34 años de edad. Oración para pedir la salud de los enfermos a la Virgen de

Lourdes ¡Oh amabilísima Virgen de Lourdes, Madre de Dios y Ma-

dre nuestra! Llenos de aflicción y con lágrimas fluyendo de los ojos,

acudimos en las horas amargas de la enfermedad a tu ma-ternal corazón,

para pedirte que derrames a manos llenas¿ el tesoro de tu misericordia sobre nosotros.

Indignos somos por nuestros pecados de que nos escuches, Pero acuérdate que jamás se ha oído decir

que ninguno de los que han acudido a ti haya sido abando-nado.

¡Madre tierna! ¡Madre bondadosa! ¡Madre dulcísima! Ya que Dios obra por tu mano curaciones sin cuento en la

Gruta prodigiosa de Lourdes, sanando tantas víctimas del dolor,

guarda también una mirada de bendición para nuestro po-bre enfermo… (se dice el nombre).

Alcanzadle de vuestro Divino Hijo Jesucristo la deseada salud,

si ha de ser para mayor gloria de Dios. Pero mucho más alcanzadnos a todos el perdón de nuestros

pecados, paciencia y resignación en los sufrimientos

y sobre todo un amor grande y eterno a nuestro Dios, prisionero por nosotros en los Sagrarios. Amén.

Nuestra Señora de Lourdes

El 11 de febrero de 1858, tres niñas, Bernadette Soubirous, de 14 años, su hermana Marie Toinete, de 11 y su amiga Jeanne Abadie, de 12 salieron de su casa en Lourdes para recoger leña. Camino al río Gave, pasaron por una gruta natu-ral donde Bernadette escuchó un murmullo y divisó la figura de una joven vestida de túnica blanca, muy hermosa, ceñida por una ban-da azul y con un rosario colgado del brazo. Se acercó y comenza-ron a rezar juntas, para luego des-aparecer. Por un período de cinco meses, la Virgen se le apareció a la niña, en medio de multitudes que se acerca-ban para rezar y poder observar a la hermosa señora, pero la Virgen sólo se le aparecía a la niña. En reiteradas oca-siones, Bernadette fue víctima de desprecios y burlas por parte de las autoridades eclesiales y civiles de pueblo, pero la niña se mantuvo firme en su fe mariana sobre todo en el especial pedido que la Virgen le había encargado: la cons-trucción de una capilla sobre la gruta y la realización de una procesión.

V Domingo Ordinario Lc 5, 1-11

En aquel tiempo, Jesús estaba a orillas del la-go de Genesaret y la gente se agolpaba en torno suyo para oír la palabra de Dios. Jesús vio dos barcas que estaban junto a la orilla. Los pesca-dores habían desembarcado y estaban lavando las redes. Subió Jesús a una de las bar-

cas, la de Simón, le pidió que la alejara un poco de tierra, y sentado en la barca, enseñaba a la multitud. Cuando acabó de hablar, dijo a Simón: “Lleva la barca mar adentro y echen sus redes para pescar”. Simón replicó: “Maestro, hemos trabajado toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero, confiado en tu palabra, echaré las redes”. Así lo hizo y cogieron tal cantidad de pesca-dos, que las redes se rompían. Entonces hicieron señas a sus compañeros, que estaban en la otra barca, para que vinieran a ayudarlos. Vinieron ellos y llenaron tanto las dos barcas, que casi se hundían. Al ver esto, Simón Pedro se arrojó a los pies de Jesús y le dijo: “¡Apártate de mí, Señor, porque soy un pecador!” Porque tanto él como sus compañeros estaban llenos de asombro al ver la pesca que habían conseguido. Lo mismo les pasaba a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebe-deo, que eran compañeros de Simón. Entonces Jesús le dijo a Simón: “No temas; des-de ahora serás pescador de hombres”. Luego llevaron las barcas a tierra y, dejándolo todo, lo siguieron.

23 lutego zjawiła się Matka Boża Bernadecie ponownie i poleciła jej, aby udała się do miejscowego proboszcza, aby tu wystawiono ku Jej czci kaplicę. Roztropny proboszcz, a równocześnie także dziekan, po pilnym przeegzaminowaniu 14-letniej dziewczynki, rzekł do Bernadetty: "Mówiłaś mi, że u stóp tej Pani w miejscu, gdzie zwykła stawać, jest krzak dzikiej róży. Poproś Ją, aby kazała tej gałęzi rozkwitnąć". Przy najbliższym zjawieniu się Matki Bożej Bernadetta powtórzyła słowa proboszcza. Pani odpowiedziała uśmiechem, a potem ze smutkiem wypowiedziała słowa: "Pokuty, pokuty, pokuty". 25 lutego w czasie ekstazy Bernadetta słyszy polecenie: "A teraz idź do źródła, napij się z niego i obmyj się w nim". Dziewczę kieruje swoje kroki do pobliskiej rzeki, ale słyszy głos: "Nie w tę stronę! Nie mówiłam ci przecież, abyś piła wodę z rzeki, ale ze źródła. Ono jest tu". Dziew-czę na kolanach podążyło ku wskazanemu w pobliżu groty miejscu. Gdy zaczęła grzebać, pokazała się woda. Na oczach tłumu śledzącego wszystko uważnie ukazało się źródło, którego dotąd nie było. Woda biła z niego coraz obficiej i szerokim strumieniem płynęła do rzeki. Okazało się rychło, że woda ta ma moc leczniczą. Następnego dnia posłał do źródła po wodę swoją córkę niejaki Bouriette, kamieniarz, rzeźbiarz nagrobków. Stracił prawe oko przy rozsadzaniu dynamitem bloków kamiennych. Także na lewe oko widział coraz słabiej. Po gorą-cej modlitwie począł przemywać sobie ową wodą oczy. Natychmiast odzyskał wzrok. Cud ten zapoczątkował cały szereg innych tak dalece, że Lourdes zasłynęło z nich jako pierwsze wśród wszystkich sanktua-riów chrześcijańskich. 27 lutego Matka Boża ponawia życzenie, aby na tym miejscu powstała kaplica. 1 marca 1858 roku poleca Najśw. Panna Bernadecie, aby modliła się nadal na różańcu. 2 marca Matka Boża wyraża życzenie, aby do groty urządzano procesje. Zawiadomiony o tym proboszcz od-powiada, że będzie to mógł uczynić dopiero za pozwoleniem swojego biskupa. 4 marca na oczach ok. 20 tysięcy ludzi zostaje cudownie ule-czony przy źródle miejscowy restaurator, Maumus. Miał on na wierzchu dłoni wielką narośl. Lekarze orzekli, że jest to złośliwy rak i trzeba rękę amputować. Kiedy modlił się gorąco i polecał wstawiennictwu Bernade-tty, zanurzył rękę i wyciągnął ją zupełnie zdrową, bez ropiejącej narośli. Poprzedniego dnia pewna matka doznała łaski nagłego uzdrowienia swojego dziecka, które zanurzyła całe w zimnej wodzie źródła, kiedy lekarze orzekli, że dni dziecka są już policzone. Nastąpiła dłuższa przerwa w objawieniach. Dopiero 25 marca, w uro-czystość Zwiastowania, Bernadetta ponownie widzi Matkę Bożą. Kiedy Ją zapytała o imię, otrzymała odpowiedź: "Jam jest Niepokalane Po-częcie". Były to bardzo ważne słowa, ponieważ mijały zaledwie 4 lata od ogłoszenia przez papieża Piusa IX dogmatu o Niepokalanym Po-częciu Maryi, który budził pewne kontrowersje. Po dłuższej przerwie 7 kwietnia, w środę po Wielkanocy, ponownie Matka Boża objawia się Bernadecie. Po rozejściu się tłumów policja pod pozorem bezpieczeństwa publicznego i konieczności przeprowa-dzenia badań wody źródła, zamknęła dostęp do źródła i groty. Zabrano także do komisariatu liczne już złożone wota. Jednak Bernadetta uczęszczała tam nadal i klękając opodal modliła się. 16 lipca, w uroczy-stość Matki Bożej Szkaplerznej, Matka Boża pojawiła się po raz ostatni. 18 stycznia 1862 roku komisja biskupa z Targes po wielu badaniach ogłasza dekret, że "można dać wiarę" zjawiskom, jakie się przydarzyły w Lourdes. W roku 1864 ks. proboszcz Peyramale przystępuje do bu-dowy świątyni. W roku 1875 poświęca ją uroczyście arcybiskup Paryża Guibert. W uroczystości tej wzięło udział: 35 arcybiskupów i biskupów, 3000 kapłanów i 100 000 wiernych. W roku 1891 Leon XII ustanowił święto Objawienia się Matki Bożej w Lourdes, które św. Pius X w 1907 r. rozciągnął na cały Kościół. W roku 1925 następuje uroczysta beatyfi-kacja bł. Bernadetty a w roku 1933 jej kanonizacja.

Ogłoszenia Parafialne 10 lutego 2019 r. V Niedziela Zwykła

Zdarzyło się raz, gdy tłum cisnął się do Niego, aby słuchać słowa Bożego, a On stał nad jeziorem Genezaret - zobaczył dwie łodzie, stojące przy brzegu; rybacy zaś wyszli z nich i płukali sieci. Wszedłszy do jednej łodzi, która należała do Szymona, poprosił go, żeby nieco odbił od brzegu. Potem usiadł i z łodzi nauczał tłumy. Gdy przestał mówić, rzekł do Szymona: Wypłyń na głębię i zarzućcie sieci na połów! A Szymon odpowiedział: Mistrzu, całą noc pracowaliśmy i niceśmy nie ułowili. Lecz na Twoje słowo zarzucę sieci. Skoro to uczynili, zagarnęli tak wielkie mnóstwo ryb, że sieci ich zaczynały się rwać. Skinęli więc na współtowarzyszy w drugiej łodzi, żeby im przy-szli z pomocą. Ci podpłynęli; i napełnili obie łodzie, tak że się prawie zanurzały. Widząc to Szymon Piotr przypadł Jezusowi do kolan i rzekł: Odejdź ode mnie, Panie, bo jestem człowiek grzeszny. I jego bowiem, i wszystkich jego towarzyszy w zdumienie wprawił połów ryb, jakiego dokonali; jak również Jakuba i Jana, synów Zebedeusza, którzy byli wspólnikami Szymona. Lecz Jezus rzekł do Szymona: Nie bój się, odtąd ludzi będziesz łowił. I przyciągnąwszy łodzie do brze-gu, zostawili wszystko i poszli za Nim.

Łk 5,1-11

Matka Boża z Lourdes—11 lutego W 1858 roku, w cztery lata po ogłoszeniu przez Piusa IX dogmatu o Niepokalanym Poczęciu, Matka Boża zjawiła się ubogiej pasterce, św. Bernadecie Soubirous, w Grocie Massabielskiej w Lourdes. Podczas osiemnastu zjawień (w okresie 11 lutego-16 lipca) Maryja wzywała do modlitwy i pokuty. 11 lutego 1858 r. Bernadetta Soubirous wraz z siostrą i przyjaciółką udała się w pobliże Starej Skały - Massabielle - na poszukiwanie suchych gałęzi, aby rozpalić ogień w domu. Gdy została sama, usłyszała dziwny dźwięk podobny do szumu wiatru i zobaczyła światłość, z której wyłoni-ła się postać "Pięknej Pani" z różańcem w ręku. Odtąd objawienia po-wtarzały się. Bernadetta opowiedziała o tym wydarzeniu koleżankom, te rozpowie-działy o tym sąsiadom. Rodzice skrzyczeli Bernadettę, że rozpowiada plotki i zakazali jej chodzić do groty, w której miała jej się ukazać Matka Boża. Cofnęli jednak zakaz, gdy zobaczyli, że ich dziecko gaśnie im na oczach z udręki. Dnia 14 lutego dziewczęta udały się najpierw do ko-ścioła i wzięły ze sobą wodę święconą. Gdy przybyły do groty, było już po południu. Kiedy w czasie odmawiania różańca ponownie ukazała się Matka Boża, Bernadetta, idąc za poradą towarzyszek, pokropiła tajemniczą zjawę i wypowiedziała słowa: "Jeśli przychodzisz od Boga, zbliż się; jeśli od szatana, idź precz!". Pani, uśmiechając się, zbliżyła się aż do brzegu wylotu groty i odmawiała różaniec. 18 lutego Bernadetta udała się w pobliże groty z dwiema znajomymi rodziny Soubirous. Przekonane, że może to jest jaka dusza czyśćco-wa, poradziły Bernadecie, aby poprosiła zjawę o napisanie życzenia na kartce papieru, którą ze sobą przyniosły. Pani odpowiedziała: "Pisanie tego, co ci chcę powiedzieć, jest niepotrzebne". Matka Boża poleciła dziewczynce, aby przychodziła przez kolejnych 15 dni. Wiadomość rozeszła się lotem błyskawicy po całym miasteczku. 21 lutego, w nie-dzielę, zjawiło się przy grocie skał massabielskich kilka tysięcy ludzi. Pełna smutku Matka Boża zachęcała Bernadettę, aby modliła się za grzeszników. Tegoż dnia, gdy Bernadetta wychodziła po południu z kościoła z Nieszporów, została zatrzymana przez komendanta miejsco-wej policji i poddana śledztwu. Kiedy dnia następnego dziewczynka udała się do szkoły, uczące ją siostry zaczęły ją karcić, że wprowadziła tyle zamieszania swoimi przywidzeniami.

Almighty and eternal God, You blessed the union of mar-

ried couples so that they might reflect the

union of Christ with his Church:

believing, and praying. At Lourdes, people recall the Lady dressed in white, with a blue sash, yellow roses at her feet, and a Rosary on her arm—the Blessed Virgin Mary. On February 11, 1858, Mary appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous. This was the first of 18 vis-its, many of them with 20,000 people present. When Bernadette asked the Lady’s identity, she replied, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Just four years earlier, the pope had proclaimed it a dogma that Mary was conceived immaculate without original sin. The Blessed Virgin, through Bernadette, had come to call sinners to a change of heart. Her message was a request for prayer and penance. She also instructed Bernadette to tell the priests that a chapel was to be built on the site and processions held. On February 25, 1858, the Lady told Bernadette to dig in the dirt and drink of the stream. Bernadette began to dig, and after several attempts she was able to find the water to drink. The water continued to flow from where she had dug with her hands until it was producing over 32,000 gal-lons of water a day—as it still does. There have been over 5,000 cures recorded but less than 100 of them have been declared miraculous by the Church. Most of these have tak-en place during the blessing with the Blessed Sacrament. Today we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. We may never travel to Lourdes and join in the processions, but we can know always that we have a Mother to help us and lead us to her Son, Jesus. And so we pray to her: Grant us, O merciful God, protection in our weakness, that we, who keep the Memorial of the Immaculate Mother of God, may, with the help of her intercession, rise up from our iniquities. Luke 5:1-11

The fishermen (Simon, James, and John) leave their fishing boats and follow Jesus. Background on the Gospel Reading Last Sunday, we

heard how Jesus was rejected in his hometown of Nazareth. In the verses that follow, Jesus travels to the town of Caper-naum and begins his ministry of teaching and healing. While in Capernaum, Jesus cures a man possessed with a demon and heals Simon's mother-in-law. After spending some time there, Jesus prepares to preach in other places. The fact that Jesus had previously been in Simon's home and healed his mother-in-law suggests that this encounter is not the first between Jesus and Simon Peter. We can read today's Gospel, therefore, as a description of the developing relationship be-tween Jesus and Simon Peter. In today's Gospel, Jesus teaches from Simon's boat. Jesus turns to Simon and instructs him about where to lower the fishing nets. Simon and others have been fishing throughout the night and have not caught anything. Simon protests, claiming that such an effort would be futile. Simon ultimately obeys Jesus and lowers his nets into the deeper water as directed. Notice here that Peter calls Jesus by the title “master.” He already recognizes Jesus as a person of authority. They catch so many fish that the nets begin to tear; Jesus' presence has created abundance out of scarcity, just as it did at the wedding feast at Cana, which we heard at Mass just a few weeks ago. Simon Peter becomes a follower of Jesus immedi-ately. He calls Jesus “Lord”—the title given to Jesus after his Resurrection—and protests his worthiness to be in Jesus' presence. Today's Gospel, therefore, marks a turning point in the relationship between Jesus and Peter. Two of Simon's partners are also named as witness-es to the event described in today's Gospel: Zebedee's sons, James and John. Yet Jesus' words are addressed only to Si-mon. Jesus gives Simon a new job, telling him that he will become a different kind of fisherman. No longer will he catch fish; instead he will catch people. In these words, we hear the beginning of the leadership role that Peter will have within the community of disciples. Peter was chosen for this role. His task will be to bring others to Jesus. Already he is doing so; the Gospel tells us that all the fishermen with Peter also left their nets and followed Jesus. We continue to speak of Peter's leadership and influ-ence in the Church today when we call the pope the “successor of Peter.” We participate in the mission of the Church when we bring people to Christ through the example and positive influence of our lives.
