LIVING BRANCHES

The Gospel and second reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter emphasize the need for us to remain in Christ, and he in us. This shared life finds expression in the image of the one vine and many branches. We become living branch-es of the vine, members of the Body of Christ through bap-tism, Eucharist, and confirmation, sacraments of sharing God’s own life. The First Letter of John describes the fruit of this vine as active love of neighbor: “And his commandment is this: we should believe . . . and love one another” (1 John 3:23). Our first reading from Acts shows us an example of someone who shares in Christ’s life in the person of Saint Paul. Rachel’s Vineyard Married to a Post Abortive Woman? If you love a woman who experienced

abortion before you met her, you might find your current relationship with her is being impacted by some of her symptoms. These can include fear of pregnan-cy and parenting, trouble with intimacy, rejection of the love you try to give her because she does not feel worthy of your tenderness and affection. We invite you to explore offering the retreat to your wife as a gift and assure her that you would like to accompany her as she goes to deal with this painful event in her

history. If God is calling you to hope and healing OR to minister to those in need of hope

and healing here in our local community, please contact Lisa Petersen (509-421-7847 or [email protected])for more information.

The original St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church was built in 1915. It was the first church built in Ephra-ta. The church was heated by a wood stove and in

later years by an oil stove. Lighting was provided by an oil lamp on the altar and one on the piano. One electric light bulb was installed in the ceiling in the

1940’s. In 1975 the church was donated to the Grant County Historical Society and has since been restored and is located in the village at the

Grant County Historical Museum, here in Ephrata.

SARMIENTOS VIVOS
