A Message of Life “I am the vine, you are the branches”

John 15:1-8

Today we all like to feel welcomed where we live and to have good friends. Who does not desire to live in a loving family and in a community where people care? It is not easy, though, to feel at home in our society. Our world is too competitive and our culture to individualistic. It is hard to build deep relationships. Our society is based on the great principles of liberalism: taking care of our own personal interests and respecting the rights of others. We value our own privacy and we don’t mingle in others affairs.

Unfortunately, the Gospel of Jesus does not ap-prove the belief of our liberal society. Our freedom does not end where the freedom of others begins. Our freedom starts where the freedom of others be-gins. We cannot close ourselves in our own privacy and indifference, but we have to be responsible for the wellbeing of others. We cannot be happy alone, be-cause “no man is an island.” A deep unity ties us together. We are members of the same body, we are sheep of one flock, we are branches of the same vine. With these symbols Christianity expresses the deepest experience of our faith.

Our Church Communities have an important role to play in our modern society. We can offer people a place where they feel welcome, where they feel at home, because we really care for one another.
