The medicine course of Unicamp, one of the best

medical courses in the country, is apt to meet the needs

of medical education. The course develops

competencies for medical abilities related to

professional practice, making the student able to act

based on ethical principles and with social

responsibility.

The curricular structure is organized into full-time

teaching modules developed during the six-year

course. This curricular model inserts the student in field

activities from the first year, allowing a view of the

medical profession already at the beginning of the

course.

The learning evaluation system does not only approach

cognitive aspects of learning, but also abilities and

competencies that are expected of the future doctor.

The student is inserted into the medical internship on the

4th year of the medical course, with integrated assistance

in health basic units of the city. During the fifth and sixth

years, the activities develop the intensive practical

training in patients, at the primary, secondary and tertiary

levels of attention. The medical practice is always

performed under the supervision of professors and

physicians of Unicamp.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Coordination of the Medical Course, along with the Unit for Evaluation and Research in Medical

Education, develops studies related to the maintenance of the quality of teaching, as well as the

improvement of evaluations performed during the course. The learning evaluation system does not only

approach cognitive aspects of learning, but also abilities and competencies that are expected of the

future doctor. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

During the medicine course, the medical internship is the

time in which the medical practice should be performed

with great emphasis, and based on the decision-making

capacity, as well as the development of either individual

or collective actions in health prevention, promotion and

rehabilitation.

The medical internship teaching respects a growing

complexity axis, capacitating the student to make

decisions and participate, in an effective and decisive

way, in assistances under the direct supervision of

habilitated professors and physicians to act as teaching

assistants. The intern performance develops the rescue of

ethical and humanistic dimensions of assistance, leading

the student to recognize values and principles that guide

the doctor-patient relationship.

FIRST YEAR

st1 semester

The medicine course of Unicamp provides study initiation by

fundamental concepts to understand the whole health-

disease process.

BS-111 – CELL – is a discipline ministered at the Institute of

Biology of Unicamp, which provides the comprehension of

the cell as a functional unit of several systems of the human

body and as an essential element to life.

By the BS-110 – HUMAN MORPHOPHYSIOLOGY I –, the

studies include basic knowledge of anatomy, histology,

physiology, embryology, biochemistry and radiology for the

understanding of the mechanisms of normal and abnormal

functioning of cells, tissues, organs and body systems.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences, by the discipline MD142 –

PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIONS I –, will promote the study of

collective health and its main concepts, such as the

biopsychosocial character of this process, the Brazilian

health system and the importance of territory to determine

the health-disease process.

An ethical approach is emphasized during the course and,

already in the 1st semester, the discipline MD148 – ETHICS I

– introduces concepts concerning ethics and its articulations

with society, such as morality, globalization, intolerance,

discrimination, and violence, as well as ethics in research

involving human beings and animals.

4

TEACHING-SERVICE-COMUNITYINTEGRATION

From the first year, the student is inserted into the Basic Health Network, performing territorial d i a g n o s i s a n d e l a b o r a t i n g intervention projects.

ETHICS

During the six-year course, the humanization in the medical education is specifically developed in the disciplines of the ethical axis, as well as in all disciplines included in the curriculum.

Aiming to introduce the student into the critical thinking on sciences and scientific knowledge

production, the medical curriculum at Unicamp, by the discipline MD141 – PRACTICE OF

SCIENCES I –, provides the development of abilities necessary to the active information search,

investigative mentality and the selection of information that could subsidize the practice of the

future professional.

These disciplines were designed from longitudinal axes developed over the medical curriculum,

allowing the integration of concepts and providing different views on the same subject.

During this first semester, the student is also provided with a free time named 'self-study period',

allowing the development of extracurricular activities, according to their own criteria.

Page 9: Figura1revisto fev 2013 - International Office · 2015-03-19 · CEE/GP n. 000071 of 2/12/2008 Professional Practice Federal Law n. 003268. of 9/30/1957 Federal Decree n. 044045

nd 2 semester

Giving continuity to the basic concepts to understand

the whole health-disease process, the student, by the

discipline BS-210 – HUMAN MORPHOPHYSIOLOGY II

–, will be apt to recognize the narrow correlations

between morphology and function, acquiring elements

to understand the normal and abnormal processes that

occur in the human body.

The discipline MD-244 – INTRODUCTION TO

MEDICAL IMMUNOLOGY – is ministered with the

objective of rescuing basic concepts acquired in the

discipline BS111 – cell –, characterized by functions of

the main molecules and cells involved into immune,

innate and adaptive responses, and discussing clinical

cases that illustrate the importance of immune

response in medicine.

INTEGRATION OF BASICAND CLINICAL SCIENCES

The proposed medical curriculum at

Unicamp comprises integrated

teaching modules, in which the

content approach is ministered by

integrating basic concepts with

clinical discussions.

The discipline MD-243 – MEDICINE AND HEALTH

–approaches subjects focusing mainly on the study of the

human behavior related to being sick, either under the ill

person or the doctor perspective. The doctor-patient

relationship is observed by students in practical activities,

developed in the Teaching Hospital and Women's Hospital –

Caism – of Unicamp, i.e., appointments and interviews with

users of the Unified Health System and their relatives.

Giving continuity to the activities developed during the first

semester along with the health teams in the city, the

discipline MD242 – PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIONS II – will

allow students to develop intervention projects, shared with

local community teams, as well as communication skills and

ethical relationship.

Disciplines with the acronym MD are ministered at the Faculty of

Medical Sciences of Unicamp

Disciplines with the acronym BSare are ministered at the Institute of

Biology of Unicamp

Considering the concepts already approached from other disciplines, students will also attend the

discipline MD248 – ETHICS II –, which proposes medical and philosophical approaches about

education, culture and values, promoting the knowledge of the main religious denominations of

the country and their implications for the medical practice, the virtues present in the oath of

Hippocrates, the rights of the human being and the code of medical ethics.

The MD241 – PRACTICE OF SCIENCES II – will approach the types of research, methods, and

treatment of variables, doing a critical analysis of results and concluding with the individual

elaboration of a research project under the orientation of a professor.

in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Up to the second year of the medicine

course, free transport is available to students to move back and forth to the training areas, which are basic health

units in the city of Campinas.

The discipline MD344 – SKILL LABORATORY I –

allows students to understand basic concepts

of assistance to traumatized patients and

identify victims in critical conditions,

performing immediate basic care of the main

needs of traumatized people.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Practical activities for the development and training of medical skills are performed at the Skill

Building arenas at FCM-Unicamp.

Reinforcing the concepts of ethics, the discipline MD348 – BIOETHICS I – provides basic concepts

of Campinas.

In the discipline 443 – INTRODUCTION TO

PATHOLOGY –, students learn pathological

procedures with emphasis on macro- and

microscopic morphological alterations of

the most prevalent diseases in the

population, as well as basic mechanisms

that lead to genetic mutations and their
