Notes From the Pastor

My Dear Parishioners, Please support your church! This weekend St. Dominic Church is asking you to complete and return your intention card. As I mentioned in my homily, I am not asking for an amount, but I am asking for 100% participation. This church belongs to Jesus Christ, but we are its keepers. This is our home. We have been blessed with a beautiful church and we should keep it up. God has blessed us abundantly and we are called to be thankful. We show our thanksgiving by respecting and carefully caring for the blessings He has given. We show our respect in how we guard the Eucharist. We show our thanksgiving in how we care for others and we show our thanksgiving for a place to worship by how we care for it and those we help. There are at least 20 places in the Bible where the Word of God speaks about tithing. Here are a few for our meditation. Mark 12:41-44 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in every-thing she had, all she had to live on.” Matthew 6:1-4 Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Malachi 3:8-10 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, “How have we robbed you?” In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Remember, if you have any questions about our faith, history or the Church, please feel free to send your questions to me at [email protected]. Your servant in Christ, Fr. John
