Fr. Arnold Zamora spoke

With the use of the New

The Fil-Am Club of Holy

Holy Name of Jesus Church.

Guest choir for the

occasion are the Philippine

Madrigal Singers (“MADZ”),

currently on tour in the US.

Following the Mass is a

dinner reception at Ryan Hall.

Space availability is limited so

RSVPs will be required to

attend the event.

The MADZ will also hold a

one-night concert at 7:30 pm

on June 10, 2011 at the

Church. Tickets are available

by calling Jackie Alcaraz at

(415) 664-8590. General

Admission is $25.00 person.

A limited number of Premium

Seats (with an optional one-

liner ad in the program) will

be sold at $50.00 per ticket.

Music has always been a

part of Fr. Arnold’s life. As a

priest, his love of God has

gone beyond proclaiming His

Word from the pulpit. He has

evangelized through his

homilies and writings, but he

has also delivered God’s

message through music. He

shares with Holy Name his life

of music and bringing the

MADZ to Holy Name is one of

his many gifts to this Parish.

Come, celebrate with the

Fil-Am Club the joys of

priesthood, music and our

heritage this coming June!

Talk about kidney health is

rarely exciting, but Dr. David

Law, a kidney specialist who

can talk in “patient” language

and inject some humor in his

lecture, evoked interest in

the group that attended the

Feb. 5, 2011 Kidney Health

Forum at Flanagan Center.

The event, chaired by our Fil-

Am V.P., Ramsey Ramos, a

public health nurse by

by Aurora Fernandez, RN

(pictured speaking at right)

and her team to help raise

health awareness. A clinical

dietitian, Ms. Erlinda Camins,

also spoke on nutrition and

diet to support kidney health.

Special thanks from the Fil-

Am Club to Ms. Carol Elliott,

our Parish Nurse, for her

support of this event.

There are 90 currently

listed members in our roster as

of March 31, 2011. Annual

membership fees are due at

our January 2011 Fil-Am Club

meeting. As of March 31,

2011, only 30 members paid

so far, including lifetime

members. The paid members

represent those who actively

come to our monthly meetings.

We are aware of the

difficulties of those who are

not always able to make the

meetings for different reasons

such as work, inability to drive

at night, childcare or

caregiver issues. However,

we still need to keep you

abreast of the outcome of our

meetings and upcoming events

in our Parish.

The membership fee

remains at $10 a year or a

one-time lifetime membership

fee of $100. The fees help

to pay for miscellaneous

expenses, including sending

mailers to members. If you

have not done so yet, please

send in your dues as soon as

you get your notices in the

mail. Many thanks to those

who already paid.

We would like to give

special thanks to Susan Logan

for her assistance in keeping

track of membership fees and

to our Treasurer, Ofelia Chan,

for her reports.

- Ramsey Ramos, V.P.

Welcome to New Members!

Cuello - all of these new

members have been friends and

supporters of the Fil-Am Club for

years. We also welcome

Thomas Lai, who joined us this

year. We are happy to have

you all as part of the Fil-Am

family!

The Fil-Am Club has

recently purchased a gold leaf

in Holy Name’s Tree of Life.

Since its formal inception in the

year 1979, the Fil-Am Club

has been in the life stream of

Holy Name Parish, with its

members serving voluntarily in

different capacities from altar

servers, lectors, Eucharistic

ministers, teachers in CCD, Lay

Canossians and fundraisers.

Purchase of the leaf was

approved unanimously at the

January 2011 meeting. The

leaf was installed on the tree

in March. (See photo at right)

Also approved was a

contribution to the AAA in

the amount of $500 for the

Annual Appeal campaign.

The donation was delivered

to Holy Name in February.

Fr. Arnold Zamora

personally thanked the Fil-Am

Club for its continued support

to the Parish, and esp. for its

contributions to the AAA

campaign and its purchase

of the leaf for the Tree of

Life.

Special thanks to Julie

Lozano who championed

these two campaigns, Pablo

Magat - as Club historian

and a founding member, he

is a valued advisor, and the

Finance Committee (Lito

Coloma, Ed Lozano, Ben

Capuyan and Ofelia Chan)

for their support of these

two Parish campaigns.

She is a tree of life to those

who grasp her, and he is happy

who holds her fast.
