We are going to look at a new story over the coming weeks about a man telling a story to his Granddaughter about dragons.

Success Criteria- I will write in full

sentences with capital letters and full stops.

- I will use my phonics to help spell my words.

- I will include detail to make

English WritingToday we are going to look at the setting of a story. The

setting is where the story takes place.

Today we will look at an image and annotate what

we can see (nouns) and how we would describe them

(adjectives).With the image in the

middle of the page, record as many key words as you

can around the edge. This is not in sentences, but

includes key words only.

Challenge: Look at the image in as much detail

as you can.

English WritingToday we are going to write

a full description of the setting we saw yesterday. In order to do that I am going

to tell you that the two people you can see in the

window are a girl called Lily and her Gran. Lily is licking a

wooden spoon. Use the words you came up with yesterday to write full

sentences about this setting. Remember to start your

sentences in different ways and to include adjectives for

the nouns you are talking about.

Challenge: Use 2A sentences (2 adjectives together: He was a tall, happy man with a smile

English WritingThe title of the book is:

Today we are going to read the first part of our story

and the think about 2 important words. Use the power point to go through the first pages of the book.

A dictionary is a book that helps us find out what

words mean. Think about the word Fire. What do you think of when

you hear this word?Think about the word

Snatcher? What do you think of when

English WritingToday we are going to use

our words and pictures from yesterday to write about

these two key words from the story. We are going to

turn our writing into 2 paragraphs.

Write a paragraph with the subheading Fire.

Write in full sentences explaining what fire makes

you think of and maybe even other stories where

you know fire is important.

Write a paragraph with the subheading Snatcher. This one is a little trickier. Think

about the sort of person who might snatch things

English WritingContractions.

When two words are put together to make a new

word they are called contractions. Look at the

pdf on Seesaw which shows some of the different

contractions you may come across.

Remember the apostrophe is used to show when a

letter or letters are missing.

Task 1: Look on Seesaw for a contraction task identifying the ways

the words are shortened. Or see

below.

- I will make links between the characters and my own life.

- I will write with the reader in mind.

The crooked, green gate stands at the end of the winding path. Outside the wind is blowing gently but safe inside Lily stands with Gran in the kitchen. They seasons are changing and it is lovely for them to see it while safely tucked away. They have spent the morning baking and Lily can’t wait as the delicious, warm smell fills the cottage.

Task: Write down words you can think of that link to Fire. Write down words you can

think of that link to Snatcher.

Draw pictures as well for each section.

Challenge: Use a dictionary to help you think of other words.

and what you think of when you think of snatching.

ModelledFireFire reminds me of red, hot flames and camping. When I went camping we had a fire and toasted marshmallows. It was so much fun but we had to be careful around the heat as it could hurt us.

Task 2: Look at the passage below. Re-

write the passage using contractions to shorten

words together.

Year 2 Timetable Week Beginning Monday 11th May R.E.

In continuation of our R.E. topic ‘Spread the word’, we would like the children to do the following: Read the children the story (attached below):Jesus had to return to his Father in heaven. The disciples were looking forward to the coming of the Holy Spirit and how the Spirit would help them to spread the Good News and serve others. After reading the story, ask your child the following questions:

Who did Jesus return to?

What did He promise to do for His friends?

What was the new friend called?

Can you name some of the ways the Holy Spirit helped the friends of Jesus?

How do you think Jesus’ friends felt when he gave them the news of the Holy Spirit?

How do you think the Holy Spirit helps us?

Explain that: The Good News is that Jesus has returned to his Father in Heaven and Christians hope that they will follow after their life on earth.

I am going shopping today. My friend Lucy will be going too. She is a lovely girl. She will get the bus there but I will go by train. We are going to get lunch in town. I am going to bring an umbrella because it is going to rain. We will be meeting my sister and her friends this afternoon because they are going shopping too. My mum can not collect us so we will get the bus home. We will have to be home at seven o’clock this evening and we will not be late.
