FILIPINO’S DIFFER IN MANY WAYS BUT UNITED AS ON

• The Philippines has a very strategic location where on the eastern shore laps the Pacific Ocean. On its west is the China Sea, to the north are china. Taiwan And Japan, to its south is Borneo, Celebes and other island of Indonesia, to its west is Malaysia and indo China and to the east is the vast Pacific and Pacific Islands

• Our Country is an island with more than, 7000 islands. These are divided into three big islands which are composed of variation of races. Each island is separated by water that comprises 1/3 land and ¾ water. Our locality is bounded by high mountains and valleys all around the country. We have different religious affiliations, different locations and different strata of a society

• Filipinos are a happy blend of several races. We have malay with Chinese, Spanish ,Indian, and American admixture plus a little of Arabs. The different people if different races that come to our country have a great influence to the people they stayed with. When they arrive in place, they are free to choose what places they want to visit. They brought their own culture and tradition. Their culture is so valuable that eventually mixed with us because the tendency to be attracted to other people took place, thus inter-marriages happened. Our culture is distinct from other neighbors in the pacific not because we had access through migration and trade with them but countries from the opposite side come to the country leaving their cultural mark which in turn have passed them on to the present generation.

These are the reasons why we have a multi-cultural society. There are many variations as different tribal groups present differences in governance ,beliefs, traits, arts and languages. Because of these factors we cannot have similar customs and traditions. Their values and ways of life shown to us were shaped ,modified and refined by several sometimes conflicting cultures and the resulting blend is what makes your own uniquely Filipino. We conclude that we do come from varied cultures within the greater culture which we call Filipino.

• The government is trying to unify the Filipino’s in spite of distance, topographical, geographical and religion/beliefs condition. We are having local and national elections to ensure that we will not be divided. We are under one leader who looks at our welfare. Each region is represented in the national leadership so there is no reason why the multi-aspects and needs will not be attended. One language was promulgated, Pilipino, so we can communicate with each other. We can speak and understand English regardless of regional division.

• The multi-society helps the country economically, politically, or culturally. All can go around, migrate around and select a place where they wish to stay. In politics, all have a freedom to run for a post, no comment, protest and express what they feel wrong or right, our system of government, being a democratic form, had contributed to the multi-culture that we are having at the moment.

• Today there is a movement to find the identity of Filipino tribal minorities. These groups have been isolated from civilization and kept their own cultural tradition . Missionaries from Europe and other countries come and mingle with the minorities not to change or modernize their cultural tradition but to learn and willingly adapt the local tribal government because they find it superior than what they have. The richness of the cultural tradition of minorities is a pride of our culture. They firmly stick and believe to what they inherit from ancestors. They are truly nationalistic.

• The oneness among the multi-cultural Filipino is very evident in times of disaster and calamity. Everybody share in any means and forms to enhance the burden or problems of the victim.
