See the incredible David Bowie light up the big screen as the glam-tastic spaceman  Ziggy Stardust, and rock out to a selection of amazing pre-show Bowie music videos, at this special tribute to the legendary artist.

e decadent nal concert by David Bowie’s “rock ‘n’ roll alien” alter ego Ziggy Stardust is the glittery subject of this legendary rock doc from director D.A.Pennebaker  (Don’t Look Back). Captured live on July 3, 1973 at London’s Hammersmith Odeon eatre, and framed by a smattering of revealing behind-the-scenes footage, the bulk of  Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars  concerns the actual concert, notable as the nal time that the famously chameleon-like Bowie would perform under the Ziggy Stardust persona — an announcement that, at the time, led many fans to mistakenly believe Bowie was retiring altogether. is nal blowout performance, which sent alien tourist Ziggy and his band e Spiders from Mars back to their distant home planet, is an orgiastic rock and roll freakout featuring numerous songs from Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane and other classic Bowie albums. Amidst the unforgettable spectacle of over-the-top stage costumes, dirty guitar feedback and a crowd on the verge of riotous chaos, Ziggy/Bowie plows through a barrage of out-of-this-world tunes, including  Ziggy Stardust, Moonage Daydream, Changes,  and  Space Oddity, as well as a powerful cover of the Velvet Underground’s  White Light/White Heat.  A ttingly grandiose send-o for the King of Glam Rock’s most “out there” creation, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is both a highly entertaining rock ‘n’ roll ick and a stunning epitaph for the waning era of Glam.  (Dir. by D.A. Pennebaker, 1973, USA, 90 mins., Rated PG)

A tormented young woman teams up with an eccentric house-painter and learns how to vent her childhood rage in a very unusual way. After losing her job and apartment, Tulip desperately looks for shelter and a means of supporting herself. Refusing to go back to her childhood home because of bad memories, she lands in a one-room apartment with Kinard. He has lived through a childhood full of violence and cruelty, and as an adult, learned how to express his pent-up anger in an eective but less than lawful way. Eventually, through trial and error, conicting views of the world, and breaking a few laws, he shows her a path for moving on with her life. (Dir. by Bill Briles, 2016, USA, 88 mins., Not Rated)

$200 MONTHLY GRAND PRIZE!$1,000 YEARLY GRAND PRIZE!

On the rst Friday of each month at 9:00pm,  Red Meat’s  Max Cannon hosts the biggest, baddest short lm contest in town – just bring us your short lms and we’ll play them on the largest movie screen in Southern Arizona! In case you’ve never been to a First Friday Shorts show, here are the rules: We’ll play anything you’ve made that’s under 15 minutes long and is brought to us on a DVD, thumb drive or BLU-ray (one lm per person, and DVDs must be playable on a regular DVD player and lms on drives need to be in by 8:00pm). Submissions are only taken on the day of the event, and all entries MUST BE RECEIVED PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACTUAL SHOW (we cannot accept lms after the show has begun, or during intermission). All lms are played in the order they’re received. Every lm is guaranteed to play for 3 minutes, but after that the audience can call for the dreaded “gong” if they’re displeased. If the gong is struck, our intrepid host stops the lm and the next movie begins. But don’t despair … if your lm is gonged, you can re-work it and bring it back to see if the changes you’ve made have pleased the audience. is is a great way for lmmakers to try out new ideas and see how an actual audience responds, so take advantage. You cannot submit the same lm more than once unless it has been re-worked. Remember, the audience decides the winner each and every month, so keep them happy! PLEASE NOTE: We only take the rst 15 lms that are brought in each month and the spots have been lling up really fast. We start taking submissions as soon as we open the day of the show so get your lms in early! PLEASE BE ADVISED: Since we don’t pre-screen First Friday Shorts entries, we don’t know what each month’s “lm content” rating will be. Be advised that some material may not be suitable for all audiences.

Congrats to Steve Roggenbuck and Kevin Kittle who tied for best short at January’s First Friday Shorts. Both lmmakers will move on to the year end showdown in May.

SPECIAL ENGAGEMENTS 4

Co-presented by The University of Arizona Center for Regional Food Studies, Southwest Center, Institute of the Environment, City of Tucson, Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, Edible Baja Magazine and The Loft Cinema.

Don’t miss this special evening of lms and food justice, part of the Food, Justice, Faith and Climate Change forum at the University of Arizona. is event will include the short lms Forked and Man in the Maze, followed by the feature-length documentary, e Harvest (La Cosecha), and a post-lm discussion featuring Gary Paul Nabhan (Director, Southwest Center), Jose Oliva (Food Chain Workers Alliance), Don Bustos (New Mexico Organic Farmer of the Year) and Teresa Mares (Assistant Professor of Anthropology, University of Vemont).

Every year there are more than 400,000 American children who are torn away from their friends, schools and homes to pick the food we all eat. Zulema, Perla and Victor labor as migrant farm workers, sacricing their own childhoods to help their families survive. e Harvest (La Cosecha) proles these three as they journey from the scorching heat of Texas onion elds to the winter snows of the Michigan apple orchards and back south to the humidity of Florida’s tomato elds to follow the harvest. From the Producers of the Academy-Award-nominated lm, War/Dance, and Executive Producer Eva Longoria, this award-winning documentary illustrates the real costs of the produce on your grocer’s shelves, providing an intimate glimpse into the lives of the children who struggle to dream while working between 12 and 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, to feed America. JOURNALISM ON SCREEN PRESENTED BY

See the Oscar-winning 2014 drama Selma, followed by an onstage discussion with journalist and author Diane McWhorter, whose acclaimed book “Carry Me Home,” an account of the civil rights revolution in Birmingham, Alabama, won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction.

Journalism on Screen is an ongoing series combining lms that explore the world of journalism with lively discussions with experts and industry professionals. Presented by e New York Times, e University of Arizona School of Journalism, e Arizona Inn and e Loft Cinema.

“NYT Critics’ Pick! Even if you think you know what’s coming, Selma hums with suspense and surprise. It would be hard to imagine a timelier, more necessary popular entertainment.” – A.O. Scott, e New York Times

Selma  is the story of a movement. e lm chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. e epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most signicant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay’s Oscar-winning Selma tells the real story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo, delivering an unforgettable performance) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history.  (Dir. by Ava DuVernay, 2014, USA, 127 mins., Rated PG-13)

A classic Disney fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in this “enchanting” story about a young princess from the past who is thrust into the present-day by an evil queen. For animated princess-to-be Giselle (Amy Adams), life is literally a fairytale – after all, she’s destined to marry the charming Prince Edward (James Marsden) and live happily ever after.    at’s the plan, anyway, until she’s banished from the animated land of Andalasia by her wicked stepmother-to-be, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon), who doesn’t relish the thought of giving up her throne to the young Giselle.  Without warning, our young heroine is ung into the very un-magical, live-action world of contemporary Manhattan – smack into the middle of Times Square, to be exact.  Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome, no-nonsense lawyer named Robert (Patrick Dempsey) who comes to her aid. Can a young princess and her storybook view of romance survive in the real world? Filled with clever references to classic Disney fairy tales like Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, and featuring a hilarious screenplay buoyed by catchy music from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz (Aladdin, e Little Mermaid, Pocahontas), Enchanted is a loveably lively comedy that’s every bit as enchanting as its title. (Dir. by Kevin Lima, 2007, USA, 107 mins., Rated PG)

Free plastic spoon and special “Room-themed Valentine’s Candy Hearts” with every ticket!

Oh hi, Valentine’s Day!   Love is in the air, and it smells a lot like  e Room!  Cozy up with someone special (but leave your stupid comments in your pocket!) as we usher in the most romantic day of the year (one day early) with a special screening of everyone’s favorite rom com of lust, betrayal and extreme Tommy Wiseau-i-ness! Sink into the warm bubble bath of absurdity that IS e Room, and wear your nest Room-inspired costume for a pre-show Costume Contest of epic proportions!  A special prize will be awarded to the “best” costume of the night, so get those slinky red dresses and ill-tting tuxedos out of the closet.  And don’t forget:  love may be blind, but you’ll always be our favorite customer.

e Room  is a cinematic experience unlike anything you have ever seen – an electrifying, soul-searing explosion of love, passion, betrayal and lies, starring the truly unique writer/director Tommy Wiseau as Johnny, a successful, happy-go-lucky banker with a great job, cool friends and even a girlfriend he hopes will someday be “e One.” But wait!  Cruel fate is lurking around every corner, and before you can say “Oh, hi doggie!,” drugs, deception, soft-core sex and a cheating heart begin to unravel Johnny’s life.  Our hero is soon trapped by vicious betrayals from everyone around him and he must nd a way out before he is torn apart!    e ultimate cinematic car crash from which you will denitely NOT want to look away, e Room is a cult sensation that is hilariously awful and borderline surreal in ways that can only be explained by sheer artistic madness.  From its gloriously wooden dialogue to its bizarre green screen depiction of San Francisco to its unsettling obsession with spoons, footballs and breast cancer, e Room is a lm so deeply insane it must be seen to be disbelieved. (Dir. by Tommy Wiseau, 2003, USA, 99 min., Rated R)

is Valentine’s Day, celebrate the wonders of bulletproof love with the Quentin Tarantino-scripted “lovers on the run” action classic, True Romance, starring Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater, on the big screen in 35mm!

“Made with such energy, such high spirits, such an enchanting gooness, that it’s impossible to resist.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Under the direction of tough guy lmmaker Tony Scott, the Quentin Tarantino-scripted True Romance was transformed into a movie nerd’s wet dream of a romantic road movie – a violent, action-packed ode to exploitation cinema, trashy romance icks and all-around Hollywood excess. Geeky Detroit comic store clerk Clarence (Christian Slater) falls for ditzy hooker Alabama (Patricia Arquette), and before you can say “lovers on the run,” the young newlyweds are on a honeymoon road trip to L.A. with a stolen suitcase full of $5 million worth of maa cocaine, which they plan on selling in order to ensure a bright future of marital bliss. Of course, the path to true romance never runs smooth, and soon the not-so-innocent lovers are caught between the police, the mob and the ghost of Elvis in a crazed adventure lled with wild car chases, kung fu vengeance and over-the-top Mexican standos! Will their love survive? Chock full of Tarantino’s trademark “pop culture in a blender” obsessions and colorfully profane dialogue, True Romance features a killer supporting cast that includes James Gandolni, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Walken. (Dir. by Tony Scott, 1993, USA, 121 mins., Rated R)

Enter our free rae for a fabulous Valentine’s prize, and enjoy a delicious Pink Grapefruit Mimosa, available at the snack bar… it’s tart and tangy, just like Katherine Hepburn!

“is romantic farce is a delight from start to nish, with everyone involved working in peak form.” – Geo Andrews, Time Out

Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart irt, ght and fall in love in the classic, multiple Academy Award-winning romantic comedy, e Philadelphia Story. On the eve of headstrong heiress Tracy Samantha Lord’s (Hepburn) wedding, her suave, blue-blood ex-husband, C.K. Dexter Haven (Grant), returns. It seems that C.K. has discovered that a national tabloid plans to do an expose on Tracy’s philandering father and has agreed to smuggle a reporter (James Stewart) into her wedding if the magazine kills the story on the elder Lord. But C.K. never expects that the woman he still loves will suddenly fall for the undercover reporter. Now, before the evening is over, the ery Tracy will be forced to take an uninching look at herself and decide which of these three men she truly loves. Fast, fun and genuinely sexy, e Philadelphia Story, directed by the legendary George Cukor (e Women) and later remade as the musical High Society, is a virtually un-improvable screwball gem from the ‘40s that continues to delight today. Of all the smart and sophisticated comedy classics from Hollywood’s Golden Age, few have aged so little, or so well. (Dir. by George Cuckor, 1940, USA, 112 mins., Not Rated)

Don’t miss this special 35mm screening of the thrilling Kurosawa action classic that inspired George Lucas’ Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope!

“A roaring piece of entertainment… Kurosawa stages every scene with an eye toward screen-lling spectacle.” – Keith Phipps, Dissolve

A grand-scale adventure as only the great Akira Kurosawa could make one,  e Hidden Fortress  stars the inimitable Toshiro Mifune (Seven Samurai) as a brave general charged with guarding his defeated clan’s princess (a erce Misa Uehara) as the two smuggle royal treasure across hostile territory in war-torn feudal  Japan. Accompanying them on their perilous journey is a pair of bumbling, conniving peasants who may or may not be their friends.   is gorgeous, rip-roaring ride – Kurosawa’s rst widescreen lm – is a breathlessly-paced and highly-entertaining epic that was a major inuence on the creation of George Lucas’ original 1977  Star Wars. One of the legendary director’s most beloved lms, released between his classics rone of Blood and Yojimbo, e Hidden Fortress delivers Kurosawa’s trademark deft blend of wry humor, breathtaking action and compassionate humanity.  (Dir. by Akira Kurosawa, 1958, Japan, in Japanese with subtitles, 126 mins., Not Rated)

“Cléo from 5 to 7  plays today as startlingly modern. Released in 1962, it seems as innovative and inuential as any New Wave lm.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

is stunning and spirited breakthrough lm from acclaimed lmmaker Agnès Varda, the primary female director associated with the ‘60s French New Wave, is a real-time portrait of a beautiful singer set adrift in Paris as she awaits the potentially life-changing results of a medical test. Cléo from 5 to 7  details an hour and a half in the life of Cléo (Corinne Marchand), a French pop singer anxiously awaiting news from her doctor regarding a biopsy. Traveling across Paris as she waits to learn her fate, Cléo’s journey through the city, which encompasses a rich series of encounters from shopping to falling in love with a solider on leave, eventually becomes a journey of self-discovery. Vain, childish and selsh at the start, she transforms over the course of the lm’s 90 minutes from a passive young woman into an active participant in her own life. A moving, mysterious and lyrical chronicle of the minutes of one woman’s life as she faces her own mortality,  Cléo from 5 to 7  is a strikingly innovative mix of vivid vérité and melodrama, featuring a score by Michel Legrand  (e Umbrellas of  Cherbourg)  and cameo appearances by New Wave royalty Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina. Beautifully shot and realized by photographer-turned-lmmaker Agnès Varda (One Sings, the Other Doesn’t), this key work of the French New Wave also serves as an eloquent and unforgettable snapshot of Paris in the sixties.  (Dir. by Agnès Varda, 1962, France, in French with subtitles, 90 mins., Not Rated)

Josie Rourke directs this irresistible tale of seduction, intrigue and betrayal, with a stellar cast including Michelle Dockery (Downtown Abbey), Janet McTeer (e White Queen) and Dominic West (Testament of Youth)!

Following the hugely successful broadcasts of Coriolanus and King Lear, National eatre Live brings the Donmar Warehouse’s highly anticipated new production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses to cinemas – broadcast live from the Donmar’s London home. Directed by Josie Rourke (Coriolanus), the cast includes Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Janet McTeer (e White Queen) and Dominic West (Testament of Youth). In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalized the world. Two hundred years later, Christopher Hampton’s irresistible adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s thirty year anniversary. Former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed. (Running time: 210 mins., includes intermission)

Gus Van Sant’s haunting, visually dazzling tale of unrequited love and life on society’s margins stars River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves as two young street hustlers searching for an elusive place called “home.” For My Own Private Idaho, Van Sant combined two screenplays he was working on – one a modern version of Shakespeare’s  Henry IV— with an original short story to create the dreamlike tale of two wayward hustlers who drift through the coee houses and wide open spaces of the Pacic Northwest, the Italian countryside and back again, navigating a volatile world of junkies, thieves and johns on their grungy journey of discovery.   Mike Waters (Phoenix, in one of his most iconic roles) is a sensitive narcoleptic who dreams of the mother who abandoned him, and Scott Favor (Reeves) is the wayward song of the mayor of Portland who waits for his 21st birthday and the sizable inheritance that will come with it.  He is also the ambivalent object of Mike’s desire.  Separately and together, they entertain a host of eccentric male and female clients, as street urchins (led by the Falsta-like Bob Pigeon, memorably played by lmmaker William Richert) spout lines from the Bard and barns fall mysteriously from the sky. Indeed, we’re most certainly not in Kansas anymore.  (Dir. by Gus Van Sant, 1991, USA, 104 mins., Rated R)

Don’t miss this fascinating documentary about famed composer Sergei Rachmanino followed by a conversation about the lm and Rachmanino’s music, led by Russian-trained concert pianist/scholar Alexander Tentser and Shawn Campbell, TSO VP of Artistic Engagement! PLUS: enter to win free tickets to upcoming TSO concerts!

Harvest of Sorrow is an eye-opening documentary examining the life and work of famed pianist and composer Sergei Rachmanino through the use of home movies, concert footage, and interviews. Used in classic lms like Brief Encounter and Shine, on television in “e South Bank Show” and “Panorama,” on radio in Semprini Serenade, and including some of the most famous melodies of the 20th century, Rachmanino’s romantic, passionate music is as popular today as it has ever been. is feature-length documentary, shot in Russia, Switzerland and America, is made with the full participation of the composer s grandson, Alexander Rachmanino. Featuring soloists Mikhail Pletnev (with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado, and his own Russian National Orchestra), Dmitri Hvorostovsky and young stars Valentina Igoshina, Peter Jablonski and Nikolai Putilin, the music is specially recorded with the great conductor Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra and Chorus of the Mariinsky eater in St Petersburg, with which Rachmanino was intimately associated. Director Tony Palmer’s lm, with Rachmanino’s own words spoken by Sir John Gielgud, is a unique and loving insight into a world long gone, but denitely not forgotten. One of the screen’s grandest epics, this monumental story recounts the true-life experiences of  T.E. Lawrence, better known to the world as Lawrence of Arabia. A young, idealistic British ocer in WWI, Lawrence (Peter O’Toole) is assigned to the camp of Prince Feisal (Alec Guinness), an Arab tribal chieftain and leader in a revolt against the Turks. In a series of brilliant  tactical maneuvers, Lawrence leads fty of Feisal’s men in a tortured three-week crossing of the Nefud Desert to attack the strategic Turkish-held port of Aqaba. And following his successful raids against Turkish troops and trains, Lawrence’s triumphant leadership and unyielding courage gain him nearly god-like status among his Arab brothers. Director David Lean’s career masterpiece, lensed to sweeping perfection by Freddie Young and set to Maurice Jarre’s majestic score, won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, cemented Peter O’Toole as one of Hollywood’s favorite leading men and features a stellar cast including Claude Rains, Anthony Quinn and Omar Sharif, in his rst major English-speaking role. “e Wild Bunch  is an American masterpiece, one of the greatest lms ever produced in the Hollywood system.” – Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune

In 1969, director Sam Peckinpah’s powerful, violent and controversial  e Wild Bunch, about a band of doomed outlaws seeking one last score down Mexico way, shot adrenaline right into the tired heart of the western genre. After a railroad-oce robbery goes sour (and bloody), a band of aging outlaws, led by hard-bitten Pike Bishop (William Holden), makes tracks for Mexico, with a team of bounty hunters led by Pike’s former partner (Robert Ryan) hot on their trail. Seeking that one last big score, Pike and his boys (played by Ernest Borgnine, Warren Oates and Jamie Sanchez)  hijack a trainload of US Army weapons for a Mexican general — but when one of their own falls afoul of their employer, the Bunch resolves that it’s best to go down shootin’. Peckinpah’s blood-soaked revisionist western became a landmark in the depiction of movie violence with its insanely graphic gun battles; the nal, slow-motion shootout/massacre is one of the most astonishing set pieces in lm history.  Exceedingly controversial upon its initial release,  e Wild Bunch forever changed the way violence was depicted and perceived in the movies.    And it is even more startling in its larger-than-life 70mm incarnation.  (Dir. by Sam Peckinpah, 1969, USA, 145 mins., Rated R)

“Wonderfully wry… touching, beautiful and poignant.” – Alissa Simon, Variety

“Filled with wintery melancholy and captivating charm, Rams has a generous spirit and wit that makes it entirely accessible.” – Allan Hunter, Screen International

A sibling rivalry of biblical proportions set in the world of competitive ram-breeding farm culture may seem like an unlikely combination, but in Rams, Icelandic lmmaker Grímur Hákonarson creates a compelling, understated and wryly amusing drama that won the Un Certain Regard prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Estranged brothers Gummi (Sigurdur Sigurjónsson) and Kiddi (eodór Júlíusson) are in the midst of their valley’s annual competition for best ram. ey run adjacent farms but do not speak, bitterly trying to outdo one another as they stubbornly uphold a grudge of mysterious origin. When a lethal disease suddenly infects Kiddi’s sheep, the entire valley comes under threat. e authorities decide to cull all the animals in the area to contain the outbreak. is is a near death sentence for the farmers, whose sheep are their main source of income, and many abandon their land. But Gummi and Kiddi don’t give up so easily – and each brother tries to stave o the disaster in his own fashion: Kiddi by using his rie and Gummi by using his wits. As the authorities close in, the brothers will need to come together to save the special breed passed down for generations, and themselves, from extinction.   Driven by the stellar performances of its two leads,  Rams  masterfully mixes comedy and heartbreak in its portrait of an ancient, and endangered, way of life. (Dir. by Grímur Hákonarson, 2015, Iceland/Denmark/Norway/Poland, in Icelandic with subtitles, 93 mins., Rated R)

“Bracing… a dazzling blend of drawn and CGI animation… conrms Mamoru Hosoda’s reputation as one of the most interesting writer/directors working in Japanese animation.”- Charles Solomon,  Los Angeles Times

In this fantastic animated adventure from award-winning writer/director Mamoru Hosoda, a young boy discovers a secret world of beastly warriors in the back alleys of contemporary Tokyo. With Hayao Miyazaki settling into retirement, many consider Hosoda as the heir apparent to the anime throne. Indeed, his recent lms — e Girl Who Leapt through Time, Summer Wars,  and  Wolf Children  — can easily be placed alongside the best of Studio Ghibli or Pixar. With an admitted preference for hand-drawn animation, Hosoda displays a storytelling ease and a knack for staging action that puts Hollywood to shame. ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEE:BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM!

“A rigorous, engrossing anatomy of a suspected war crime.” – Guy Lodge, Variety

“A powerful war drama… riveting and complex.” – Olly Richards, Empire

“Utterly gripping and explosive. Tobias Lindholm expertly crafts and immersive and psychological examination of the moral challenges of war. Unforgettable.” – Kathryn Bigelow, director (e Hurt Locker)

In the tense and provocative drama A War, acclaimed lmmaker Tobias Lindholm (A Hijacking) examines the moral complexities of split–second decision–making in battle and the ramications of those choices. Claus Pedersen is a company commander stationed in Afghanistan. At home, his wife is trying to hold everyday life together with a husband at war and three children missing their father. During a routine mission, the soldiers come under heavy re, and Claus must make an impossible decision to save his men - a decision that will have grave consequences for him, as well as his family back home. Writer/director Lindholm has a keen eye for stories that occupy both action and drama genres, and here he explores the notion that all decisions have unintended consequences. Reteaming with actor Pilou Asbæk (A Hijacking), and assembling a supporting cast that includes Danish soldiers and Taliban warriors, Lindholm and his cast inject the lm with a dynamic physical and moral realism that transcends the trappings of a typical war lm. (Dir. by Tobias Lindolm, 2015, Denmark, in Danish with subtitles, 115 mins., Not Rated)

SHE(Dir. by Avi Nesher, 1982, Italy, badly dubbed in English, 105 mins., Rated R)

“Sandahl Bergman Tempted Conan, and Now She is Ready to Take on the World!”

Statuesque ‘80s B-movie Action Queen Sandahl Bergman (Conan the Barbarian) strips down and rips it up in this supremely cheesy, femme-driven, post-apocalyptic / sword-n-sorcery mash-up allegedly based on the classic fantasy novel by H. Rider Haggard.

“Atrociously entertaining… an unstoppable, hard-driving, double-clutching festival of wrong-headedness that provides some damn ne amusement.” – Cheese Magnet

SOLARBABIES(Dir. by Alan Johnson, 1986, USA, 94 mins., Rated PG-13)

“A Spectacular Science-Fiction/Adventure on Blazing Skates!”

If Dune and e Road Warrior hooked up, convinced e Goonies to join them for a ménage-à-trois, and then 9 months later gave birth to a baby named Roller Boogie, it might look something like this notorious trainwreck of a bad idea – a post-apocalyptic teen action ick that epitomizes the ‘80s in the best/worst possible way!

“Nothing I have ever seen compares to the misguided insanity of Solarbabies.” – It’s a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Movie

WARRIORS OF THE APOCALYPSE(Dir. by Bobby A. Suarez, 1985, USA/Philippines, badly dubbed in English, 96 mins., Rated R)

“ey Turned Paradise into Hell!”

One of the kookier of the post-apocalyptic ‘80s action icks, the incredibly cheesy Warriors of the Apocalypse (aka Searchers of the Voodoo Mountain) ups the ante on the genre by adding magic, psychic powers, indestructible little people and extreme eye laser warfare. From the obviously amazing director of e One Armed Executioner.

“ere’s enough idiotic action and bizarre turns of events in this movie to make it one of the most enjoyable post-apocalypse lms that isn’t Road Warrior.” – Teleport City

NIGHT OF THE COMET(Dir. by om Eberhardt, 1984, USA, 95 mins., Rated PG-13)

“ey Came. ey Shopped. ey Saved the World!”

Two totally awesome Valley Girls are the sole survivors of a comet-fueled apocalypse, but their good times are cut short by the appearance of gnarly comet zombies who really don’t care that girls just wanna have fun in this hilariously goofy sci-/comedy/horror ick lled with, like, major attitude or whatever.

“One hell of a shindig… Night of the Comet is the ultimate ‘80s genre kitsch dish.” – Arrow in the Head Reviews

THE WARRIORS (Dir. by Walter Hill, 1979, USA, 92 mins., Rated R)

Filled with absurd violence, electrifying synth music, comic book pacing and enough references to Homer’s e Odyssey to classify it as a loose adaptation (albeit one with dirty bathroom brawls and subway knife ghts), e Warriors is a unique cult classic that sparked major controversy on its initial release and inspired countless kooky Halloween costumes.

“One of the few tailor-made cult movies that deserves its cult, e Warriors has a rich, pulpy atmosphere that seems sprung from a lurid comic book.” – Scott Tobias, AV Club

AMÉLIE (35MM PRINT)(Dir. by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001, France, in French/Russian with subtitles, 122 mins., Rated R)

Bringing the stylish visual wit and obeat sensibility of his previous lms, Delicatessen and e City of Lost Children, to this whimsical tale of love, fate and the power of positivity, Jean-Pierre Jeunet has created one of the most refreshingly unique romantic comedies ever made.

“Audrey Tautou is utterly captivating… it’s hard not to fall under the spell of this moonstruck romance.” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

HEAVY METAL (35MM PRINT)(Dir. by Gerald Potterman, 1981, Canada, 86 mins., Rated R)

Featuring the music of Black Sabbath, Devo, Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Cheap Trick and many more, as well as such comedic vocal talent as John Candy, Eugene Levy and Harold Ramis, Heavy Metal is a crazed assault on the senses whose original poster tagline read, “Louder and Nastier an Ever,” and they weren’t kidding!

“Wild animation, tons of blaring rock music, and fanboy wish fulllment fantasies of the freakiest order. Heavy Metal is good campy fun.” – Scott Weinberg, eFilmCritic.com
