The colour red has connotations of death and evil and in this case is symbolic of blood, which immediately establishes the genre as horror.

The poster uses the Guttenberg principle of the Rule of Thirds. The girl in the image is positioned to the left of the poster but is in the foreground showing her significance and immediately identifying her as a main character.

The film title design disorientates the audience as it is clear the poster is advertising a horror film, however the writing style looks childlike.

Film creditsImage directly addresses the audience which captures their attention and draws them in to watching the film.

The target audience of this film is both men and women, 18+. Lionardo DiCaprio’ is seen as a sex object to women of this age and by using his image on the front of the poster this attracts their attention as the low key lighting and the mise en scene being dark could be a put off to them.

The poster uses Guttenburg’s design principle of the Rule of Thirds. The image of the male character is set in the primary optical area which establishes to the audience that he is the main character and holds importance within the film, as he is the main focal point of the image.

The image on this poster uses direct address, interacting with the audience and inviting them into the content of the film.
