FILM REVIEWS
A film review-
A reflection on a film, depicting the good and the bad elements of it. These reflections explain to the audience the genre, age range and demographics of a movie. Reviews can be accessed online, in the press or via a radio.
People are likely to read reviews to have an insight of a new or upcoming film and whether it is worth watching or not.
WHAT IS A FILM REVIEW?
A review has four main purposes. These purposes are to-
- To inform- To describe- To analyse- To advise
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A REVIEW?
There are two main styles of reviews-
- Journalistic criticism- Such as appears regularly in newspapers and other popular mass-media outlets.
- Academic criticism- These are produced by film scholars that is informed by film theory and published in academic journals.
TYPES OF REVIEWS
The main things that should be included in a film review are-
- Age rating and star rating.- Summary of the film (but no spoilers).- Use of fact and opinion.- Compares the film to others of the same genre.- Comments on the details of the film (E.G. characters,
events, setting and the ending).- Quotations from viewers of the film.- A conclusion.
