1. Research ofcontinuitytechniquesHolly Norton 2. Match on Action Matching on action or cutting on action is atechnique where a film editor creates cuts betweenscenes of movement to create a visual bridge. Thetwo shots may have been shot hours apart fromeach other, but by matching the action (such as thefirst shot being someone entering a room frombehind, and the next shot someone walking into aroom from the front) it flows and stops the audiencefrom noticing the cut or any continuity errors. 3. Example: 4. Shot/Reverse shot Shot/Reverse shot is a shot type that emulates aconversation between two or more characters. Onecharacter is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is seen looking back atthe first one. Since the characters are facingopposite directions, the audience assumes that theyare facing each other. 5. Example: 6. 180 Degree rule The 180 Degree rule is a rule about positioning thecamera in relation to the characters. If twocharacters are facing each other, imagine a lineconnected the two and spreading out. This is anaxis. Now then imagine the ends of those linestouching the inside of a circle that encloses thecharacters. The rule is that the camera shouldrotate on the circle, so that it remains an equaldistance away from the characters. It also suggeststhat you take the shots at opposite ends of the circleso that the characters switch places when adiologue is being used.
