DIFFICULTIES FACED B Y SSPL
Opening and closing of the filter press using the automatic system
Leakage of filtrate due to non achievement of closing pressure
Heavy leakage from the gland of feed centrifugal pump
Non achievement of required pressure development of 6 Kg/cm2 in
filter press
Difficulty in getting a consolidated cake
Washing of filter cloth
Setting of cloth in line with the holes (due to elongation)
Making the entire place messy due to faulty operations

SUGGESTIONS GIVEN B Y FLUID CONTROL
Opening and closing of the filter press using the automatic system
± Usage of right type of recommended hydraulic oil is to be used to the
required level
± If an y air lock gets into the system the cylinders does not function.
Hence the same is to be checked periodically
Leakage of filtrate due to non achievement of closing pressure
± If t he cylinders start functioning properly, full closing pressure of 250
kg/cm2 will be achieved & will arrest any leakage between the plates
± Check for any folding of filter cloth & if found any to be corrected while
stacking the plates
± Check for any cake deposition on the surface of the plates, if found to
be cleaned thoroughly

SUGGESTIONS GIVEN B Y FLUID CONTROL
Heavy leakage from the gland of f eed centrifugal pump
± High volume & high power centrifugal pump tend to leak at high pressures of 6 Kg/cm2
± Use t he centrifugal pump only for initial filtration up to 1.5 Kg/cm2.
During this period only 50 % of the pump deliver y is to be fed into the
filter press & remaining is to be re-circulated back into the sludge tank.
± subsequently use the screw pump to achieve the pressure up to 4.5Kg/cm2.
± by which power saving & consistency in cake deposition will be
achieved
Non achievement of r equir ed pr essur e development of 6 Kg/cm2 in
filter pr ess ± To fill the cake only up to the pressure of 4.5 Kg/cm2 using the screw
pump
± Go for compressed air squeezing up to 7 Kg/cm2 for effective cake
removal & dr y cleaning

SUGGESTIONS GIVEN B Y FLUID CONTROL
Difficulty in getting a consolidated cake
± By following the earlier step consolidated cake can be ensured
Washing of filter cloth
± Once consolidated dr y cake gets formed, washing of filter cloth
becomes minimal

SUGGESTIONS GIVEN B Y FLUID CONTROL
Setting of cloth in line with the holes (due to elongation)
Existing : Closed deliver y with
Central inlet & 4 outlet holes
Proposed : Open deliver y with
Central inlet & 2 bottom corner
outlet holes with taps

SUGGESTIONS GIVEN B Y FLUID CONTROL
Proposed : Open deliver y with
Central inlet & 2 bottom corner outlet holes with taps & A
collection gutter with gravity
outlet
Drill holes with the dia ¾ inch bsp
ADV ANT AGES:
No need to have corner holes
in the top & bottom of the cloth
This helps easy setting of the
filter cloth
Dripping comes down
drastically due to full sealing &
gasketting action
House keeping becomes
easier with less of leakage &dripping
