Community Service and Scholarships…What Does It Mean? Some scholarships require that recipients do “communityservice” as part of their education. They are looking forstudents who have done volunteer work either here at theCIA or in the community. This includes any type of non-paid activity done for the betterment of, or in service to,others. For example: serving at a soup kitchen, being a club officer, assisting a chef prepare for an exam, ortutoring a child or adult in reading.
Remember, your education is about more than what youtake from an experience. It is also about what you giveback.
Finding a Work-Study CommunityService JobWe have an arrangement with several schools in theimmediate area to provide paying community-based jobs forour Federal Work-Study students. These jobs might includeassisting youngsters with such jobs as lunchroom duty, tutoring and flashcard drills, playground duty, and manyothers. You are paid for your travel time to and from theschool in addition to your time spent there. This is a chanceto earn work-study money while helping in the surroundingcommunity. The hourly wage for these off-campuscommunity work-study positions is higher than forcomparable on-campus FWS jobs. For additionalinformation, please come to the Financial Aid Office.
