NOTES FROM OUR GOLF PRO By Bob Reichle
My favorite time of the year for golf has arrived!
Cool, quiet mornings; perfect putting greens and the
turning of the leaves can provide early mornings and
late afternoons on the front nine that are quite mag-
nificent.
If you have not had an opportunity to play recently
come down and check it out. October is the time
year to be here!

Men’s Club News By Roger Hawkins
Our annual elections are held prior to teeing off on
our Turkey Shoot to be held on October 16th this
year. We have three very fine and enthusiastic
members running for three Board of Director posi-
tions this year. Our candidates are: Brian Raley,
George Cook and Tom Gosswiller. We would also
like to thank those board members that are going
off the board this year. Thanks to Guy Pollak, Mike
McAtee and Roger Hawkins.
We would like to thank Bob Reichle and his assis-
tants, Chris and Jamie, for their support, knowledge,
and assistance throughout the year. To Bob Russell,
thank you for your support and providing great food
for our events. To Nancy Ward, thanks for taking
care of our administrative needs and posting results
and member information to our web site throughout
the year.
We held the “Ironman” Tournament on September
22nd. It was a 27 hole, two-man team event with
three different formats on each nine holes. We had
a great lunch on the patio between the 18th and
19th holes for a little extra energy to continue. Con-
gratulations to our first flight winners: Mark Scott and
Barry Abbott and our second flight winners: Wayne
Stroble and Alan Beymer. A big thank you to our
tournament chairman Jack Larmour for putting this
together.
On September 26th, members of the Board of Direc-
tors presented to the Sports Equipment Fund for the
schools of Calaveras County (administered by the
Arnold Angels) and the Arnold Logging Museum the
proceeds from our Annual Charity Classic. This
year’s proceeds totaling $11,000 are shared by
these two groups. Thanks again to all of you that
made this possible by your donations and support.
September 30th ended our Ringer Board and BLC
season and you can find the final postings for both
the Ringer Board and the Blue Lake Cup standings
on our bulletin board. Congratulations to all of the
Ringer Board winners and to those top 40 BLC Point
Qualifiers who are now entered into our Blue Lake
Cup Tournament to be held on October 10th.
Our Annual Turkey Shoot will be held on Sunday Oc-
tober 18th. This is one of our most popular events so
make sure you sign up. Each participant will receive
a turkey certificate, redeemable at Big Trees Market.

Women’s 18-Hole Club By Kathleen Garmsen
It's so very hard to believe that our last full month of
the season, September, has come and gone! We
had a lot of fun events this past month, starting with
our Low Gross/Low Net – Player of the Month compe-
tition. September's Player of the Month, winning both
Low Gross and Low Net, was Karen Chu Jones. Con-
gratulations Karen, on an awesome round!!
After golf that day, we held our Annual Meeting with
over 30 members attending. The election of our in-
coming officers for the 2017 season took place and
the results were as follows:
Captain: Lynn Manfree;
Co-Captain: Kathleen Garmsen;
Treasurer: Kayleen Clemens;
Secretary: Jane Lucas.
The 3 additional Board members will be: Sharon
Tussy; Jackie Gutierrez; and Elise Hanrahan
(Tournament Chair). We also voted on, and passed,
amended By-Laws and Standing Rules. I'd like to
take this opportunity to thank both Jayne Becker and
Lynn Manfree for all their hard work in updating/
organizing those changes.
On September 14th we held our annual Sadie Haw-
kins Tournament, chaired by Jamie Forrest and Jack-
ie Gutierrez. This tournament is where members
have the opportunity to invite a male guest to part-
ner with them for a Partner Best Ball format, followed
by delicious lunch in the restaurant. We had an in-
credible turn out with 52 participants. A fun, fun day
for sure!! The winners in the 1st flight were: Tess Leary
and her partner Karl Malmin; 2nd place: Georgia
Loveless and Carl Schelbert; 3rd place: Cyndie Haw-
kins and Jim Walton; 4th place: Lisa Self and Mike
Cashara.
The winners in the 2nd flight were: Carroll Covey and
her partner Kevin Andel; 2nd place: Charlotte Hood
and Rich Garmsen; 3rd place: Laurie Andrade and
Jim Harrington; 4th place: Bonnie Ericsson and Bob
Tussy. Closest to the Hole awards went to the ladies:
Bonnie Ericsson – and for the men: Mike Cashara.
Congratulations to all and many thanks to Jamie and
Jackie for all their efforts in organizing the event!
We also held our “Beat the Pro” play day on Wednes-
day, 21st and unfortunately it was one of our few rain
days this season. However, Bob Reichle was gracious
enough to play with the gals who showed up to play
– lasting 9-holes before heading in – but, the good
news is all who played received a sleeve of balls for
“beating the pro”!
September 29th was our last day to participate in the
Ringer/Birdie Board and the last chance to vie for the
September Player of the Month, Karen Chu
Sadie Hawkins 2016 Chairs: Jackie Gutierrez
and Jamie Forrest
Sadie Hawkins First Flight Winners:
Karl Malmin and Tess Leary

WGANC Low Net pins. It was also our October
(and final) Low Gross/Low Net – Overall Player of
the Month Competition. Congratulations go out
to Sandi Pearce as our final Overall Low Net/Player
of the Month! Way to finish out the season!
Some additional member news: Cindy Gibbs and
her husband Bill headed up to Oregon to com-
pete in the Black Butte “Grapes and Golf” Tourna-
ment and came away winning 1st Place/Low Gross
in their flight – and she won the Closest to the Pin
competition! In addition, the foursome of: Dot
Atchison, Cyndie Hawkins, Lynn Manfree, and
Kathleen Garmsen took 1st Place in their flight in
the Saddle Creek CC Invitational. Kudos to all and
way to represent SWWGC!!
Our club's final play day will be held on Wednes-
day, October 5th. Please know though that
WGANC Open Days continue with 16 left to be
held during the months of October and November
– starting up again in late February/early March
2017. As always, look for the “Letters of Infor-
mation” from our Open Day Chair, Sue Steinberger
regarding these last events.
On October 6th, nine of our members will partici-
pate in the Calaveras County Championship host-
ed this year by Greenhorn Creek. Good luck la-
dies and we hope you can bring the trophy back
home! It sure looked great in our Trophy Case this
past year.
Our Annual Awards Brunch will be held on Sunday,
October 9th at 11:30 am. I hope many of you can
attend to celebrate our end-of-season!
Some last notes: 2017 Club Shirts can be ordered
through the end of October by visiting or calling
the pro-shop. Cost is $27.50 per shirt and includes
the SW logo with the verbiage “Sequoia Woods
Women's Club”.
Membership applications are due by October 15th
– after that date there will be a $5.00 late fee in-
curred, so be sure to get them in on time. The ap-
plications include an option to order a magnetic
Name Tag at a one-time cost of $7.00.
Save the Dates for the following events: Sunday,
October 16th (12:30pm) The “BlueBirds” Tourna-
ment – Karen Wilhelm will once again head this
tournament where we get the chance to “play
from the blue tees” in a fun, relaxing format. Last-
ly, our Christmas Party, hosted by the Sequoians,
will be held on Saturday, December 10th!

Sequoians (Women’s 9-Hole Club) by Kathy Enea
On September 6th, we had a wonderful 9 holes of golf
on our beautiful back nine. We then shared a lunch-
eon and conducted our monthly meeting. At that time Low Net (Charm Girl) was awarded to
Sue Pollak and Suzan Cullen for the play of the day.
Stell McPherson presented Michele Stahlberg with
Most Improved Golfer for the month of August.
On Friday, September 9th, we enjoyed our Fall Fling
Couples Scramble. Sandra Hirst and Ethel Meyer
were the hosts and Tournament Chairs for this event.
The winners were:
1st Place: Claudia and Alan Beymer with Sandee and
Jerry Stowe
2nd Place: Dodie and Brian Raley with Marilyn and
Paul Nord
3rd Place: Anne and Jim Evans with Shari and Jim
Gong
4th Place: Chris and Sid Gilbrech with Kathy Enea and
Cam Dean
The Sequoians would like to thank Bob Reichle for set-
ting up the pairings and tabulating the results. The
dinner on the deck was outstanding and our thanks
go out to the kitchen staff for the great service.
On September 13, our qualifiers competed in the
WNHGA Tournament of Champions in Oakdale. There
were 27 clubs represented, with 86 participants.
Kathy Enea placed 4th in 1st flight. Julie Lapham com-
peted in 2nd flight and Claudia Beymer competed in
3rd flight. These ladies would like to thank The Se-
quoians for sponsoring them in this tournament.
“TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME!” was the theme for
this year’s WNHGA Open Day at Sequoia Woods. This
was part of a “back to back” event held with Twain
Harte Golf Club. Although this was a WNHGA spon-
sored event, it would not have happened without our
Open Chairman, Sue Pollak, and her assistants, Bev
Vasquez and Mary Peterson. Staying with the theme,
the kitchen presented a wonderful lunch that
would rival any food you would find at a Major
League Ball Park. As usual, Bob and Jamie in the Pro
Shop were professional and very outgoing to the la-
dies that attended this event.
In October, our check in time is prior to 9:30 and a
Tee Time of 10:00. Sleep in, ladies!
Our next meeting and luncheon will be our last of the
season, on Tuesday, October 25th. It will be a sit down
lunch in the dining room, so reservations need to be
made with Sheila Silcox, our Social Chairman. More
information will be sent out via email. Dues
for next season can be paid at that time as well.

Updates Regarding The Mountain
Retreat Resort:
We hope our members are enjoying the reciprocal
arrangement with our neighbors at The Mountain
Retreat resort. At this time we’d like to remind every-
one of the current policies. These policies are im-
portant to follow in order to keep our arrangement
intact, so please respect and abide!
Our members may use only the indoor swimming
pool, the spa, sauna and the new workout room (all
located on the lower level) at Mountain Retreat as
part of your Sequoia Woods membership.
There is no charge to use their facility but the use is
restricted to Sequoia Woods Country Club members
in good standing. You may now bring no more than
two guests with you to the facility and you must ac-
company them—guest card privileges will not oth-
erwise be honored.
Likewise, you may bring your children with you to
the facility but you must accompany them, as well.
(To everyone’s understanding, this isn’t a place to
drop-off your kids to play or to “hang-out”.)
Most importantly, you’ll need to present your perma-
nent plastic Sequoia Woods card with your name
and number for identification, and a picture ID. Your
card is the only way you can use the facility. Once
they cross-check your card with the active member
list we provide them, their staff will buzz the locked
access door open. (If you’ve lost your SWCC mem-
ber card please let us know as soon as possible and
we’ll send for replacements, which you’ll be able to
pick up here at the clubhouse.)
The hours of operation: 8:00am until 10:00pm sum-
mer; 8:00am until 8:00pm off-season (fall, winter &
spring).
Enjoy!
