Serving the areas of Duncanville, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Grand Prairie andSouthwest Dallas, Holy Spirit Catholic Parish is the center of worship, religious formation, and a Christian Community. The parish started asSt. Elizabeth of Hungary Church Tri-City Mission in 1972. BishopThomas Tschoepe of Dallas granted permission to establish themission under the supervision of Msgr. Joseph Erbrick. Thecommunity held its first liturgical services on September 3, 1972 in arented classroom at Central Elementary School in Duncanville. Themission’s initial name changed to Holy Spirit Mission in May 1973 andRev. Robert Sykora was the coordinator.

On Pentecost Sunday, June 16, 1974, the Diocese of Dallas establishedour parish, Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, with 200 families residing. Ourfirst pastor was Rev. Sykora. The parish purchased the 13-acre site inMarch 1975. The community’s growth and determination helpedcomplete the church, rectory and classrooms that circle the courtyard. Our clergy and community celebrated the first Mass on October 8,1977 in the Narthex because the church was not fully completed. InNov. 1977, the community held the Mass in the main Sanctuary.Bishop Tschoepe presided over the formal dedication of Holy SpiritParish on June 3, 1979. In 1983, the parish built the Community Centerto house the growing efforts of catechesis, spiritual ministry, andfellowship. By 1990, the parish had grown to 2,200 registered families.

Currently, the parish boundaries cover 20 square miles and serve thepastoral needs of 3,944 families. Our parish continues to grow andflourish due to God's blessings and the extraordinary sacrifices of ourpeople.

We are called by God to share His mission. May we continue to growand love one another, welcoming all to share in the traditions of faith, sacrifice, and service to our Lord and one another.

Provided faith formation programs via online and hybrid in-person classes.

Refined streaming services in order to offer online Mass, allowing parishioners to watchlive and previously recorded sessions.

Renovate our Church building floors and Sanctuary. Water damaged carpets werereplaced with more durable polished concrete and beautiful porcelain tile on the Altar.Parishioners came together to renew our Sanctuary pews by re-staining them.

Shift their Giving practices significantly, moving from checks and cash during Mass toelectronic giving through credit cards and automatic bank payments. This makes Givingmore consistent for budget and expenditure planning.

I am extremely thankful for all the hard work done by our parishioners and staff. This was ahard year, but a good year. We do not live in fear, we live by faith. I hope you find theinformation in this report helpful in providing you examples of how our communitycontinues to grow in God’s grace.

Our staff devised various ways to do ministry with limited resources through the on-goingpandemic, such as:

The pandemic has kept our community apart for too long, and we have found ways to bringour community back to their house of worship. It's been a time of despair, destruction andloss but also a time to rebuild. To do so, we began a campaign called “Come Follow Me.” Thisis a parish-wide effort to invite our members back to our parish. Please, take part in the effortas we look forward to more face-to-face interactions in the near future.

Thank you for all your efforts, gifts, prayers, support and participation in our parishcommunity.

LITURGYOur Liturgy, the Mass, embraces every parishioner and is central to Catholicism. OurPriests, Deacons, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Musicians, Altar Servers, Sacristans,Sacred Environment Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, and other supporting roles helpprovide meaningful and consistent rubrics of the Roman Rite in celebration of theChurch Sacraments.

We began the fiscal year with the joyful decree from our bishop allowing us to resumein-person Sunday Masses. Up to that point, we had only been permitted to offer publicweekday Masses and live stream private Sunday Mass as well as Reconciliation,Eucharistic Adoration, Anointing of the Sick, and Funeral services. We were required tofollow COVID protocols such as the wearing of face covering, social distancing, andsanitizing surfaces. Our community could not have met these protocols without thehelp of our countless volunteers who stepped up and continue to service their fellowparishioners.

Due to the safeguards in place during the on-going pandemic, our average SundayMass attendance significantly decreased to 423 during the fiscal year (FY) ending June30, 2021.

We continue to offer in-person weekend and daily Masses. To make everyone feelwelcome, we must all do our part to respect our fellow parishioners’ health and safetyconsiderations. We need to be mindful that we are not all in the same mindsetregarding the precautions needed to prevent contracting COVID-19. To provide optionsfor those who wish to worship with us, we have set aside our weekend 5:00 PM Massesfor anyone who is more comfortable gathering with strict COVID protocols in place. Therefore, these Masses continue to require social distancing and limiting Massattendance via registration - all other Masses are open at full capacity. We have beenblessed with parishioners who care and are considerate of others as we navigate themurky waters of this pandemic.

Mass Schedule:Saturday 5:00 PM VigilSunday 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM (Spanish), 5:00 PMMonday to Saturday 8:30 AM (Note: For additional information please visit our websitehttps://holyspiritcatholic.com/.)

MINISTRIESFY 2021 was a year of change for all our ministries. We had to keep our parishioners, visitors, and staff safe while on our parish grounds, find new ways to continue ourFaith Formation programs following COVID-19 guidance with less funds andprovide much needed assistance to the community.

All events and activities will have at least one of the following aspects: social and/or spiritual dimensions.Increase Sunday Mass attendance to pre-pandemic levels, 2,400 weekly average.Increase parishioner participation in parish ministries, programs, and activities.

"COME FOLLOW ME" INITIATIVEDuring the fourth quarter of 2021, with the support of our Pastoral Administrator, theparish developed a new initiative to focus on bringing back our parishioners to church, both to Mass and in-person activities. The "Come Follow Me" campaign recruitedmembers of our parish to lead efforts and work together in creating events andactivities to promote spiritual and community building. The overall objective of thiseffort is to make parishioners feel comfortable and safe to participate in-person at allactivities in our parish facilities. This initiative will continue beyond 2021 and encouragesyour support and participation.

The "Come Follow Me" campaign focuses on three goals:

This initiative engages our volunteers to work together to achieve our parish goals bybuilding our volunteer base and providing opportunities to strengthen our faith throughactivities and events. The support and participation of our parishioners are needed tomake this effort a success, we encourage you to join us during all campaign plannedevents and activities.

ADULT & FAMILYJoyfully affirming the declaration of Pope Francis that “the first setting in which faithenlightens the human city is the family,” Holy Spirit’s Adult and Family Ministry (AFM)reaches out to families, couples, and singles of all ages in our community. ThroughScripture studies, marriage preparation classes, marriage enrichment, fellowshipgroups, and other ministries, we seek to help build mature Disciples of Christ who areexperiencing the joy of living the Gospel in their daily lives.

During FY 2021, AFM’s mission was greatly challenged due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Our inability to continue providing our programs and activities using our traditionalmethods caused us to overcome our resistance to change. Guided by the Holy Spirit, wedeveloped and implemented new methods to communicate and interact with ourparishioners and offer our services in a virtual world to help nurture and grow ourparishioners’ spirituality.

We implemented two new ministries from this transition: the “Team Callers Ministry”and the “Card Ministry.” The aim of both is to keep in touch in a personal way with ourparishioners by praying with or for them, providing words of sympathy or comfort, orsimply letting them know that we care about them. The Team Callers Ministrycoordinated more than 40 volunteers to make phone calls to all our parishioners. Wewere able to reach around 2,900 parishioners and supported them through prayers, letters, pastoral care, and other services until the month of August 2020. Through theCard Ministry, we continue to keep in touch with parishioners who are, for example, experiencing health issues or a family loss.

By taking advantage of current technologies, our various ministries and parish-basedorganization were able to offer certain functions or events. For example, our NovenaGroup held virtual novenas via Zoom during August, November, February, and May. OurAdult Faith Formation Ministry facilitators presented virtual classes in English andSpanish during the Fall and Spring and provided Advent and Lenten programs. Ournewly formed Espiritu Guadalupano Group also held a virtual novena and helped with adownscaled but spirited celebration for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We alsodownscaled our traditional Milestone Wedding Anniversary Event. Working incollaboration with the Outreach Ministry, we created a Milestone Anniversary Givingprogram to honor the milestones anniversaries by giving canned food or monetarydonations to help our Food Pantry. Our clergy created a video specifically for the couplescelebrating a milestone wedding anniversary to congratulate them. Our MarriageMinistry provided both in-person and virtual appointments, along with offering pre-marital informational sessions, marriage preparation one-to-one and pastoralcounseling. Although it has been a very challenging year, we have greatly enjoyedserving you to the best of our God-given abilities.

OUTREACHThe Outreach Ministry sees every person as the image of God. We strive to uphold thedignity of each person and respond with our love of God through advocacy for peaceand justice and works of mercy.

Our ministry, like others in our parish, ceased most of our in-person activities. Wecanceled our Communion to the Homebound Ministry, weekly Spirit Fitness exercisegroup, our weekly Craft Group, our ESL classes, and all Respect Life activities. However, throughout the pandemic, Outreach continued to offer support and services to those inour community who were suffering an extreme crisis.

FOOD SECURITYIn April 2020, our Food Pantry was designated as an essential service. Our Food Pantryremained open weekly, every Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Dedicatedvolunteers operated contactless, drive-through food distribution service safely for ourclients. In addition, Holy Spirit, in partnership with Catholic Charities Dallas, hosted aMobile Food Truck each month providing healthy produce, dairy, and meats. During thepandemic, parishioners' food donations and volunteer efforts helped 1,780 families.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEFamilies across our community suffered the loss of income due to COVID-19. To helpfamilies meet their basic needs, we offered financial assistance to help with their utilitybills. We provided $5,526 in utility assistance. Additionally, we informed our clients ofexternal resources to help them meet other basic needs such as rent and mortgageassistance.

PASTORAL CARE One of the most difficult decisions was to cease our Communion to the Homeboundministry. While we were unable to visit our parish's most fragile family members in theirhomes and those in hospitals and facilities, our Extraordinary Ministers (EMs) continuedto make calls and send e-mails to keep our homebound parishioners connected. Theparish staff also mailed weekly bulletins and provided subscriptions of Texas Catholic. With great joy, in June 2021, Outreach Ministry welcomed our EM volunteers back withan Appreciation Luncheon and announced that we would resume our home visits, taking the Eucharist, our most precious gift to our 36 homebound parishioners.

COMMUNITY SUPPORTDuring the Summer, Outreach collected necessary school supplies from ourparishioners to provide to students returning to school both virtually and in person. Wegave over 100 bags of school supplies to students within our parish. We also donatedexcess school supplies to our sister parish, Holy Cross Parish.

In the Fall, our parishioners donated food items to provide over 100 completeThanksgiving meals to our Food Pantry clients. Our local LULAC office also provided adonation to reach 25 additional families. In collaboration with Catholic Charities Dallas, during Christmas, our parishioners donated new coats, hats, scarves, and gloves to keepfamilies warm through the Winter. We supported 350 families during the holidays.

In August 2020, multiple ministries worked together to offer a socially distanced icecream social and school supply distribution during our annual backpack blessing; We held a drive-through pet blessing in October; and In November, a memorial pictorial display of deceased loved ones who passedduring the year was placed in the Narthex to show our community’s sympathy andlove.

COMMUNITY LIFECommunity Life is a conduit for the work of the Holy Spirit, linking our parish familiesthrough various organizations, events, and activities. The ministry’s motto “God links ustogether with love” exemplifies this giving spirit. We strive to make our community awarm and inviting parish, that is strongly committed to the practice of "Welcome" and"Participation" marked by hospitality and diversity. As disciples of Jesus, we are to livethe Gospel values of Christian unity, service, compassion, and justice. Community Lifeinvites you to become part of the sign of hope God gives you in your world.

During the past year, we found our community divided not by our own account, but bya pandemic. In an effort to maintain unity, we hosted various activities and events:

We also held meetings with our organizations to discuss the effects of the pandemic onour community and how to resume organizational gathering in our Community Center. The activities and services provided by Community Life are greatly enhanced by ourorganizations and volunteers such as our Social Committee and Welcome Tablevolunteers.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is not a “program,” but is an ongoingprocess through which individuals enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.Formation for the celebration of the sacraments of initiation (baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Eucharist) is conducted through engagement with the parish communityin both social events and liturgy, as well as faith formation classes designed to meet theneeds of busy adults with varying levels of catechesis. The RCIA initiates one as alifelong member of our Catholic Church, and most importantly helps develop a personalrelationship with Jesus Christ as well as assists the new member in living out the call ofChrist every day. Participants are accompanied on their journey by the RCIA Team, byindividual sponsors, and – perhaps most importantly – the entire parish.

The RCIA process at Holy Spirit was not immune from changes brought about by theCoronavirus pandemic. The most immediate impact was felt by those in formation tocelebrate sacraments at the 2020 Easter Vigil, as all public Masses in our Diocese weresuspended during that time celebrations were delayed. Under the Bishop’s Decree, wewere able to celebrate with small numbers of our RCIA participants in Masses withlimited attendance over Pentecost weekend of 2020, but we had several Catechumen[1] who did not receive their sacraments until Easter of 2021.

To prepare our RCIA participants to celebrate the sacraments, we shifted from liveclasses and parish events to online Zoom sessions and YouTube Mass. Although theEaster Vigil Mass of 2021 was pared down liturgically from our normal celebrations, being able to welcome new Catholics into the Church at our usual time and in thepresence of family and parish community was a beautiful experience. We had nineCatechumen fully initiated at the Easter Vigil, and one candidate[2] received into fullcommunion at a Sunday Mass during the Easter Season.

[1]Adults who have never been validly baptized in any Christian tradition are called Catechumenand prepare for Full Initiation (reception of all three sacraments of initiation), typically celebratedat the Easter Vigil Mass each year. [2] Our brothers and sisters who are already one with us through Christian baptism are calledCandidates. Candidates in RCIA prepare for Reception into Full Communion in which they makea profession of faith in the Catholic Church, are confirmed, and welcomed to the table of theEucharist for the first time.

CHILDREN'S FAITH FORMATIONChildren’s Faith Formation (CFF) has always placed an emphasis on helping childrenlearn not only about God but getting to know God in a personal way. It’s taking it fromhead to heart. This concept was greatly tested this past year as we pivoted from theindividual classroom learning environment to on-line and a hybrid in-person learningplatforms. The on-line platform, CatholicBrain, consisted of weekly video lessonassignments. Our hybrid in-person learning platform consisted of small mixed-agedgroups meeting once per month to help accommodate those needing personalinteraction with catechists. This required development of on-line registration, self-reporting, and waiver forms, as well as rigorous safety protocols. In-person learning alsoincluded live-streamed Mass and the introduction of our Children’s Church Donations. We also held a highly successful first-ever End-of-Year Pentecost Family Gathering forboth in-person and on-line families and the development of Church To-Go Boxes full offun family faith summer activities. The diocesan required child safety training was alsodone completely on-line by parents via the NetSmartz Program. Lastly, because somefamilies had internet issues, we provided on-site computer/WIFI usage to help themwith their Faith Formation assignments.

With some creative thinking and collaborative efforts, CFF was able to offer families avariety of COVID friendly events during the 2020/21 year, including: Backpack Sunday &Ice Cream Social; Halloween BOOlevard of Treats; Reconciliation Reception; “Souper”Bowl Sunday; Children’s Friday Lenten Program; Easter Egg Hunt; Mother Daughter Tea;and Vacation Bible School, which incorporated both a morning and evening session, aswell as Closing Celebration. Summer programs included National Coloring Bookdistribution day, Flat Jesus Road Trip Game and our continuing on-line monthly bookreading program, “Dozzzing Off with Ms. Deborah.”

Additionally, our catechists were able to enjoy Catechetical Sunday with donatedbrunch boxes to-go; a modified Catechist Appreciation Dinner; and even our annual Endof Year Gathering.

The year, however, was not without its challenges, some of which will linger into theupcoming program year. Enrollment numbers were significantly down despiteproviding parents with an all-on-line option. This trend, unfortunately, continues evennow. We soon learned parents were not equipped technologically, academically, orpsychologically to spend more time on-line, even if it was discussing faith with theirchildren. Many families soon “tapped out” due to computer overload or simply becamedisengaged. This trend was a PRE-pandemic dilemma and has not changed post-pandemic. We must establish innovative ways of engaging, equipping and workingwith parents to help them feel more confident in teaching their children about theCatholic faith. But many of these already developed ideas include family-centeredgatherings, which is limited by our lack of large assembly spaces. And now our seasonedvolunteers are retiring and/or choosing not to return to the catechetical team leaving ahuge void in experience and knowledge. Our ability to inspire the younger adults tobegin filling these vacancies will be paramount, as we lay the groundwork for the nextgeneration of children. But with prayer, fortitude, and God’s grace, it can be done.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATIONOur Sacramental Preparation Ministry is an integral part of our Children’s FaithFormation and Youth Ministry programs. The ministry focuses on preparing childrenand their families for the celebration of the sacraments of initiation (Baptism,Confirmation, and First Holy Eucharist) at an age-appropriate level. Baptismalpreparation classes help parents and godparents of a newborn child understand theirduties and responsibilities in raising a child as a member of God’s kingdom. Childrenbegin preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion at the age of 7, and ourprogram provides catechesis for the students and parents in family-centered classes. Inaccordance with Diocesan guidelines, students in at least the 8th grade may also beginformation for Confirmation, which is also a family-centered program. Information onhow we continued our Confirmation program during FY 2021 is provided under ourYouth Ministry section.

Like other ministries, when the pandemic took hold, we had to figure out how tocontinue our ministry in a safe and effective manner. This process was both challengingand rewarding.

Baptismal Preparation: Prior to the pandemic, all our Baptismal preparation classeswere in-person with the parents and godparents with an average class size of 25-30people. In order to observe recommended safety precautions, we went from an in-person classroom approach to a totally virtual setting. If for some valid reason, parentscould not do the on-line course, we met with them for a private class with thegodparents. Although our in-person sessions have resumed, the online program is avaluable resource that we are able to offer if the situation demands.

First Reconciliation and First Communion: Before FY 2021, our Sacramental Preparationin-person classes were very large requiring us to meet in the gym. We had up to 150students along with their parents; the actual number of class attendees ranged from250 to 300 people. We would have one monthly session with all 150 students and theirfamily.

During the pandemic, our class size dropped to 90 students. We continued to offer in-person classes as well as a home version of the class. To meet Coronavirus guidance, wereduced the in-person class size to a range of 20 to 25 families per session resulting infour groups of families each meeting only once a month. This method allowed us toprovide social distancing during each session. The change in our in-person classapproach had an unforeseen benefit, as we got to know our students and families on amore personal level.

We also provided an at-home version of the class to families who were not comfortablein an in-person setting or vulnerable to the virus and, if needed, we provided supportand coaching for the parents on how to present the information to their child. The FirstCommunion Masses were a little different. We did social distancing during the Masses, and everyone wore a mask. During each Mass, we only had 10- 12 students with theirfamily receive First Communion. It took a longer than usual timeframe to have them allreceive their First Communion, but we are so glad we were able to do all of this and hadno one contract the virus.

MINISTRIESYOUNG ADULTSHoly Spirit Young Adults meet weekly for casual hangouts and scripture discussions. This group is for those in their 20s and 30s and provides a great opportunity fordiscussion, coffee, and Catholic fellowship. The group is small and met on our campusprior to the pandemic, occasionally joining other parish groups or Diocesan activities. With the start of the pandemic, the meetings came to a halt.

In the Fall of 2020, the group met a few times and had low attendance. There weremultiple reasons for the low attendance - not everyone was ready for in-personmeetings; people moved away, and some had job changes that affected their ability toparticipate. The program has become somewhat self-guided with the absence of adirector. This is a very important ministry as the age group is vulnerable. The experienceof college and/or transitioning into full-time employment places additional challengeson young adults to live out their Catholic Christian mission. Having a strong, faith-fillednetwork of peers can provide a safe haven for this age group so that they can share theirexperiences and have fruitful conversations that help keep them strong in their Catholicfaith.

YOUTHHoly Spirit Youth Ministry (YM) helps teens serve Christ and invite Him more deeply intotheir lives. The program offers many things, including Retreats, Conferences, Serviceprojects, Special liturgies, Pro-life activities, Community building, Mission trips andLeadership training for our teens to learn to both love and serve God. The mostimportant thing it offers, though, is a safe and loving place for our teens (grades 7-12) tolearn just as much about themselves as they do about God!

Our 2020-2021 YM program was deeply affected by the onset of the pandemic. We wentfrom a completely in-person program to a completely on-line program. Weimplemented online teaching through Google Classroom and experienced technicalissues that caused confusion and frustration. It was a confusing platform because thestudents and their parents could not see what activities had been completed or whatwas next to complete. Many students in their first year of Sacramental Preparation wereunsuccessful in completing their activities and therefore are repeating their first year.

At the beginning of the pandemic, YM also dealt with the delay and uncertainty of whenand how to celebrate Confirmation at the end of our 2019-2020 YM program. OurConfirmation celebrations which normally occur during one Mass in May took placeduring five Masses in September 2020 due to the pandemic. We had a very largeConfirmation group and we had to keep the number of candidates to no more than 18to accommodate the families and stay within social distancing guidelines.

Our 2020-2021 Confirmation classes were all virtual, causing the student to once againface many challenges. Students had spent so much of their school week with virtualteaching, that it was difficult to keep them on task with yet another online course. Mostof our students completed the course and we celebrated their Confirmation during May2021 with two celebrations. The reduced number of Masses was due to a smallerConfirmation class.

Though most of our additional services, activities, retreats, mission trips, etc., weresuspended, we did get creative. In 2020, we were successful in creating a sidewalkpromenade for those graduating from high school and college so their families couldcelebrate their child’s achievement with their parish community as witnesses. Thefamilies and graduates were very appreciative. We expanded our celebration in 2021with a sidewalk promenade and a reception in the courtyard.

In July of 2021, a group of about 20 youth and adults went on The Alive in You missiontrip. The participants had a very joyful and spiritual experience and appreciated“normal.” We also had our Hands from Home program during the summer of 2021 withthe youth and volunteers painting the church parking lot lanes. This project improvedthe parking lot situation, whose aging surface is deteriorating and creating a hazardouscondition. Additionally, during this past summer, we resumed our Summer YouthNights and met every other Wednesday during June and July with outdoor games andactivities. These activities brought joy to those who participated. It also brought part ofour community back to our church campus and was a welcome beacon.

CHILD CAREHoly Spirit’s Child Care enables parents to have confidence that their children are wellcared for in a safe environment while they devote attention to Sunday Mass and churchsponsored programs and activities. It ensures that children’s church times are happytimes and provides a foundation for children’s developing faith.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we did not offer child care during FY 2021. Somenursery staff along with volunteers became part of our sanitation teams that sanitizedour sanctuary and church building after daily and weekend Masses.

MINISTRIES

SAFE ENVIRONMENTHoly Spirit Catholic Parish is committed to providing a safe and welcomingenvironment to all we serve. To achieve our commitment, we follow the Diocese ofDallas Safe Environment Program requirements. In part, the safe program requires us toscreen staff and volunteers whose duties include contact with minors and/or vulnerableadults. Other volunteers who must be screened are ushers/greeters (HospitalityMinisters).

When we resumed in-person worship services, we needed help with implementing ourCOVID protocols such as ensuring everyone wore a face covering and maintained socialdistancing. These protocols helped keep our priests, parishioners, and staff safe from theCOVID-19 virus. The Knights of Columbus, many of whom were already helping with ourHospitality Ministry (ushers) prior to the pandemic, and other parishioners stepped upand effectively implemented our protocols. We screened, as required, all theseHospitality Ministers – total of 37 individuals.

Additionally, we screened a total of 63 individuals assisting in our Children’s FaithFormation and/or Youth Ministry programs as well as an additional 26 volunteers whoassisted with our Vacation Bible School.

We are extremely grateful for the time and talent all our volunteers provide. Withouttheir help, the services to our community would be very limited.

FINANCE COUNCIL MESSAGEWe are very fortunate to have a strong faith community willing to help spread the goodnews of Jesus Christ by sharing the gifts God has given us: time, talents, and treasures. In terms of treasures, our parish is in a fair financial position. This was made possiblebecause individuals and families like you stepped up and offered your contributions.May God bless you for your support!

During FY 2021, we had a steady flow of monetary contributions due to your generosity.Your contributions helped, for example, revenue exceed expenses, increase our cashbalance and renovate our Church building without incurring a related debt.

Our regular (Sunday, Holy Day and On-Line Giving) collections accounted for 68 percentof our total revenue in FY 2021. Prior to the pandemic, our regular collections average$29,000 per week. This average significantly decreased when the pandemic took hold. Our weekly average dropped to $19,700 at the beginning of the pandemic. As FY 2021progressed our weekly average gradually rose to $22,400 in the last quarter of FY 2021.Additionally, in response to Fr. Eugene’s request, our collections shifted significantlyfrom checks and cash during Mass to electronic Giving through credit cards andautomatic bank payments. The change in how we receive contributions makes thefunding level more consistent for planning purposes. The current revenue level allowsus to maintain our ministries (no staff reductions and no pay increases), but prevents usfrom filling vacant maintenance and AFM positions as well as hiring a ParishDevelopment Coordinator and addressing needed repairs and maintenance. We aresincerely appreciative of the continued generous support of our parishioners.

In addition to regular collections, we were able to secure a second Paycheck ProtectionProgram (PPP) loan in the amount of $183,000. We used these funds to help pay aportion of our staff payroll and utilities. The combination of our regular collections andPPP funds contributed to increasing our cash balance by $189,000. As we did with ourfirst PPP loan, we plan to apply for forgiveness of the second PPP loan. We are hopefulthat the second PPP loan will be forgiven.

Our Church building went through a major renovation. The majority of the building’sfloors were replaced; walls and doors received a fresh coat of paint, the wall behind theAltar was renewed and our pews were given a fresh coat of stain. We paid most of theproject’s cost ($103,500) using funds raised through our annual raffle and donations. Wealso received funding ($24,000) from the Our Faith, Our Future campaign. Our parishwas able to accomplish this major project despite not having our biggest fundraiser inFY 2021, our Fall Festival due to the pandemic. The cost of this project would have beensignificantly higher had it not been for the generosity of organizations, such as theKnights of Columbus, and volunteers. They contributed countless hours of physicallabor. They moved the pews, stained the pews and wooden doors, painted walls anddoors, stained and installed the wooden baseboards and handrails. They also moved allthe furniture and liturgical supplies to our Community Center and back to our Churchbuilding. This project once again proved that God’s people can achieve many things ifthey are united.

What a blessing to have somany of our households contribute financially to Holy Spirit. If you wish to give as well, please contact the parish office.

CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONSOur parishioners’ contributions do so much more than keep the lights on and the waterrunning. Each year our parishioners provide financial support to Catholic charities andorganizations. Your contributions to Catholic charities and organizations are soimportant and reach far beyond the boundaries of our Holy Spirit. Thank you!

We want to emphasize our parish contributions to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. During atime of national crisis, you, the parishioners of Holy Spirit, showed a deep love of Godand humanity. As of June 30, 2021, our parish exceeded our calendar year 2021 goal of$122,000. You made a deeply personal and sacrificial act to share the gifts God has givenyou with those in our community.
