StudentsshouldweartheirIDatalltimeswhenoncampus.Studentswillonlybeallowedoutoflessonswiththepossessionofanappropriatepass(egBathroom,LearningCentreorClinic).EmergencyProceduresIntheeventofanemergency,parentswillbecontactedthroughanemergencycommunicationsystem(detailstobecirculatedlater).Shouldanincidentoccurtoanindividual,parentswillbecontacteddirectlybyschoolstaff.Itisthereforevitalthatparentsprovideuptodateinformation.Werequire:

1. Currenthandphonenumbersandemailsofparentsforcontactinemergency.2. Currenthandphonenumbersandemailsoftwoadditionaladults/friendsfor

contactinemergencywhowillactonbehalfofthefamily.Weaskthatifthereareanychangestotheabove,parentspleaseinformtheAdmissionsOfficeimmediately.Inanemergency,twocoursesofactionmaybetaken:

1. Schoolbuildingevacuationforexampleincaseoffireorotherprocedure(studentsassembleoutsidetheschool):Thesignalforthiswillbeaninternalalarm.Underthesupervisionoftheirteacher,studentsshouldexittheirclassroomsinsinglefileandwalkquickly,andquietly,totheirdesignatedAssemblyPoint.VisitorsshouldalsoproceedtotheAssemblyPointwheretheywillbecheckedagainstthevisitorsregister.

2. Lockdownincaseofemergency:Thesignalforthiswillbeanidentifiedsignalplayedovertheintercomsystem.Staffandstudentswillbeinformedabouttheprocedures.

• Studentsshouldwaittobecollectedinthemainlobby.• Pleasenotethatthereisnoformalsupervisionofstudentsleavingthecampus

formorethan15minutesaftertheendofschoolorafterExtraCurricularActivitiesend.

ArrivalandDepartureofStudentsonschoolbuses

• StudentswhousethisservicewillbeissuedwithrulesconnectedtobususeLunchandbreaktimearrangementsForPre-schoolallsnacksandlunchesareprovided.Duringthemorningbreakandlunch,studentsfromGrades1-12,mayvisittheCafeteriawherefoodsanddrinkswillbeavailableforpurchase.Alternatively,studentsmaybringto school suitable snacks. Only vegetarian food is allowed in the school premises.Parentsarerequestedtobringtotheattentionoftheschooltheirward’sfoodallergiesordietaryrestrictions.ArrangementsforTiffinwillbecommunicatedatalaterdate.

Studentshavelockersinsideclassroomswheretheymayleavesnacks/lunches.

Water

Pupilsareencouragedtodrinkwateratregularintervalsandafilteredwatersystemisavailablethroughouttheschoolforthesame.Pupilsmaybringtheirownwaterbottlesfromhometokeepintheclassroomsprovidedtheyareclearlylabeled.AttendanceandPunctualityItisveryimportantthattheschoolknowswhoisinthebuildingatalltimes.Theteachingprogramisbasedontheassumptionthatstudentsattendclassregularly.Allstudentsmustregisterpromptlyat8.25withtheirTutor.Studentsarrivinglateafterthetutorperiod,foranyreasonmustsigninatSchoolReception.

Goodtimekeepingisexpectedfromallmembersofthecommunity.Punctualityisamarkofgoodmannersandstudentsareexpectedtoarriveinschoolandattheirlessonsontime.Acontinuedpatternoflatenesswillbetreatedasadisciplinarymatter.ToqualifyforcompletionofaGradelevel,astudentisrequiredtoattendschoolforatleast90%oftheinstructionaldaysdesignatedontheschoolcalendar.OnlyinexceptionalcircumstancesmaytheHeadofSchoolgrantanexemptiontothisrequirement.Certifiedillnesswillbesuchanexception.DifficultcircumstancesTheSchoolwillbeadvisedinsuchcircumstances(egflooding)andnotcountsuchlatenessnegatively.ForcontinuedcircumstancestheSchoolwillchangethetimetable,ifnecessary,toensurecurriculumcontinuity.ParentsandstudentswillbeadvisedinsuchsituationsbyanofficialstatementissuedbytheSchool.EarlyDismissalStudentsmaynotleavecampusduringtheschooldaywithoutpermissionfromtheHeads.WeaskkindlythatParents/studentsmustsubmitwrittenrequests,eitherbynoteoremailatleast24hoursinadvance,inordertoleavecampusforreasonssuchasessentialmedicalappointments/visarequirementsetcbeforethestartofclassesonthedayinquestion.Studentswillbegivenan‘ExitPass’whichtheymusthandtothesecurityguardatthegate.TheSchoolNursewillgivepermissionforEarlyDismissal,ifastudentfallsill,onlyaftercontactingtheirparents.AbsencefromschoolStudentsshouldbeabsentfromschoolonlyforessentialandimportantreasons,suchasillnessorfamilyemergency.Garodiaseekscooperationfromparentsinusingtheutmostdiscretioninexcusingtheirchildrenfromschoolandinnotarrangingfamilyoutingsorholidaysduringtermtime.Ifastudentisabsentforanyreason,onthatdayparentsshouldnotifySchoolbefore8.25am.Ontheirreturntheymustbringalettertotheirtutorsignedbytheparent/guardianexplainingthereasonfortheabsence.Ifnoletter/emailisreceivedwithintwodaysofreturntheabsencewillbetreatedas‘un-excused’.Intheeventofaplannedabsence,parentsareaskedtowritetothetutorinadvance,informingtheSchooloftheabsence.

• Appealacademicdecisionswhichtheythinkareunfair• Appealdecisionconcernedwithdisciplineissues

AppealsaremadedirectlyinwritingtotheHeadofPrimary/SecondaryandtotheHeadofSchoolwhosedecisionisfinal.DecisionsresultinginLevel5actionsmaybeappealedinwritingtotheBoardwhosedecisionisfinal.BullyingBullyingisnotacceptableinourcaringcommunity.Wedefinebullyingas:repeatedandunjustifiedactionsagainstotherpeople.Bullyingcantakemanyforms:physical,verbal,socialorbytheinternetandcanbecarriedoutbyindividualsorgroups.AtGICLMwehavenoplaceforsuchactionsandwillregardthisatleastaLevelFourdisciplineissue.Theschoolwillhandleallsuchcasessensitively.AtGICLMwe:

• Encouragestudentstoreportincidentsofbullying• Willworkhardtoestablishexactlywhathappenedandwhybeforemakingany

Alcohol,TobaccoandDrugsEverycommunityneedstoprotectitsmembershencetheneedforsomeguidelinesinthisarea.GICLMtakesitsresponsibilitiesseriouslyinthisareaandisdevelopingaLifeSkillsprogramthatprovideseducationaboutalcohol,tobaccoanddrugsawarenessatthe

appropriateageandtimeinschool.Itisencouragedthatifanystudentsorparentsareconcernedaboutanyofthesesubstances,thentheycontacttheSchoolCounsellor.PossessionofIllegaldrugs(controlledsubstances)atschoolisstrictlyforbiddenandthepenaltieswithinIndianlawcanbeveryseriousindeed.Anypersonfoundtobeinpossessionofillegaldrugs,caughtintheuseofdrugs,ordiscoveredundertheinfluenceofillegaldrugswillbesubjecttotheimmediatedisciplinarycodeoftheschoolandlikelybeexpelled.Thisruleappliestothetimeswhenstudentsareatschool,oroffsiterepresentingtheschoolon,forexample,asportsactivity,serviceprojectorschooltrip.Theconsequencesrelatingtoactivitiesconcerningalcoholandtobaccoareequallyseenasseriousbreachesoftheschoolethosandwillalsobesubjecttothedisciplinarycodeoftheschool.Supportingactionsdependingontheseverityoftheissuemightinclude:

• Confiscationofgoods• Counselling• Parentalandstudentinterviewwithschool.• Internalorexternalsuspensionfromschool• Expulsionfromschool• ReferraltotheHeadofSchool

GICLMlookstoworkwithparentstoprotectandeducatetheirchildrenonthedangersofsuchactivitiesandkeepingGICLMahealthyenvironment.TheStudentCounsellorAdolescencecanbeastressfulandoverwhelmingtime.Studentsmayhaveworriesorconcernsthataredifficulttosortoutontheirown.Thewordcounsellinghasmanydifferentmeaningsfordifferentgroups.AtGarodiatheStudentCounsellor’sroleistoprovidestudentswithcollaborative,safe,non-judgmentalandconfidentialcounselling.TheCounsellorwillhelpstudentsworkthroughaproblemtofindasolution.Concernsmaybeemotional,behavioural,academicorinterpersonal.TheCounsellorisatrainedprofessionalandoffersachanceforstudentstohelpunderstandthemselvesbetter,theirownpersonalvaluesandtheroletheirvaluesplayindecisionmaking.TheCounsellorisavailabletoworkwithparentsandoftenwillhavefamilymeetingsifandwhennecessary.StudentsareabletocontacttheCounsellorbyvisitingtheCounsellingOfficeandmakinganappointment.ConfidentialityisimportantincounsellingandtheCounsellorworkstoestablishtrustwiththestudentsandwillnotjudgethem.DuringtheirfirstsessiontheCounsellorwillalwaysadvisestudentsaboutthelimitsofconfidentialityregardingwhatthestudentsaystothem,orifthestudentisindangerofhurtingthemselvesorothers.

ParentalInvolvementinGICLMParentsareavitalpartoftheSchoolcommunityandwehopethatyouwillinvolveyourselfinthesupportofyourchildren’slearningandinthedevelopmentoftheschool.SecondaryParentRepresentativesCurrently,atthestartofeachacademicyeartheSchoolwillaskfornominationsfromeachtutorgroupforaParentRepresentative.Theirrolewillprovideanimportantfunctionofcommunicationbetweenschoolandhomeandkeeptheschoolinformedaboutanyissuesthatmightarise.Specificallytheywill:

• Representtheviewsandideasofallthefamiliesinthetutorgroup.• Communicatewiththeotherfamiliesasnecessaryaboutschoolmatters.• AttendameetingeachtermwiththePrincipalandVicePrincipalswherethey

willdiscussitemsplacedontheagenda.ParentRepresentativemeetingswillnotdiscussindividualmembersofstafforstudents(thisisaninappropriateforumforthis)butwillbeaconstructivegroupthatmeetstoimprovetheschoolinallitsaspects.ParentWorkshopsDuringtheyearanumberofworkshopwillbeprovidedforparentstoattend.ThesewillhelptoexplainLearningandTeaching,curriculumandassessmentdevelopments,reportingandstudent‘Well-Being’issues.Detailsoftheseworkshopswillbecommunicatedinadvance.ParentHelpHelpandsupportisalwayswelcomedandopportunitiesareofferedtojointheGarodiaVolunteergroups,theParentTeacherAssociationorsimplytosupportLearninginsideclasses.Ifyouwouldliketobecomeinvolved,pleasecontactyourchild’sFormTutorwhowillforwardyournametotherelevantperson.Parent-teacherAssociationAstheSchooldevelops,theParent-TeacherAssociation(PTA)shallbeformedbytheheadoftheschoolwithin30daysfromthebeginningofeveryacademicyear.ParentofeverystudentintheschoolshallbeamemberofPTAandanannualamountofrupeesfiftyshallbecollectedfromeachmemberoftheAssociation.

UponformationofPTA,forgivingrepresentationtoeverystandard,alotteryshallbeconductedbydrawingalotofwillingparentsofeachstandardtoconstitutetheExecutiveCommitteeandnoticeofoneweekofbeforesuchlotteryshallbegiventothemembersofthePTA.TheExecutiveCommitteeofeachsuchPTAshallconsistof:

(i) Chairperson - PrincipalorHeadMaster(ii) Vice-Chairperson - Onefromamongsttheparents(iii) Secretary - Onefromamongsttheteachers(iv) TwoJointSecretaries - Bothfromamongstparents(v) Member - OneParentandoneteacherfrom

everystandardA listof themembersof theExecutiveCommitteeof thePTAshallbedisplayedonthenoticeboardwithinaperiodof fifteendays fromthedateof formationof theExecutiveCommittee.ThePTAshallholdanannualgeneralmeetingatleastoncebefore15thAugusteveryyear.ThePTAshallalsoholdonemeetingatleastonceineverythreemonths.SchoolFeesPaymentofSchoolfeesYouarekindlyaskedtopayallschoolfeesasperthefeepolicyoftheschool,whichisavailableonourwebsiteandintheAdministrationOfficeWithdrawalprocedureTheschoolmustbegivenfinal,confirmednoticeofthewithdrawalofthestudentbythelastdayofterm.EverystudentwithdrawingfromGICLMisrequiredtocompleteaWithdrawalForm,availableattheAdministrativeOffice.Theschoolwillnotreleaseanytranscriptorotherrecordstothestudent,oranyotherschool,institutionororganizationuntilthewithdrawalprocessiscompletedandaTransferCertificateisissuedtothestudent.ATransferCertificateshallnotbeissuedunlessallduestotheschoolhavebeenpaid.AftertheissuanceofaTransferCertificate,theSecurityDeposit,ifany,shallberefundedtothestudent.Parentsandstudentsareadvisednottorequestforanearlywithdrawalunlessitisagenuineoremergencysituation,suchasseriousillnessdocumentedbyamedicalreport.Earlywithdrawaldisruptstheacademicprogressofthestudentandmayhavenegativeconsequencesforthefuture.
