Hi guys!Yup it’s time...time for exams, for endless procrastination, for visits to

shop four times daily just because you cannot physically lift your study notes anymore...

Unfortunately not only do we have exams coming up, but IH is also say-ing goodbye to our many exchange students. I am sure they had an a

great experience at IH, and we are all sad to see them go!

moustaches!!

It’s been a busy semester with lots of changes for the student club, but we hope we have been able to deliver a fantastic semester to all of you. We would like your feedback on what you liked, what you didn’t like, and what would be fun in the future so let us know what you thought! We have worked hard to run fun events, make the committee more approachable, and to fix any problems you guys have bought to us throughout the semester. We invite anyone interested in becoming a committee member for 2012-2013 to start asking questions, stalk your favourite student club member (or the member in your favourite position) and to head on down to our meetings next semester! You’ll be surprised what you find out about how everything works and what everybody does!

Finally, we would like to thank everyone for a fantastic semester. To the exchange students, thank you so much for being part of our community, you will all be missed greatly and we look forward to visiting you in your home countries. To everybody, we wish you luck with your exams, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! Travel safe and we look for-ward to seeing you next semester!

Hi guys!

So it’s finally SWOTVAC which for some will mean hours of procrasti-nation (have you tried the game bubble spinner?) but for many will mean knuckling down and working hard for exams. We wish you all luck, and would like to put out a friendly reminder that even though some of you may finish exams early, others continue on right up until the last day so please keep the noise during end of semester celebra-tions to a minimum!! Speaking of end of sem celebrations, congratu-lations to Greycourt for running a spectacular party on Friday! Every-body seemed to have a great time, and wow do IHers look good in

Good luck to everyone in exams...and happy holidays !!!

ih semester 1 2012 recap!Week 1 - O-WEEK!Ah O-Week. That magical time spent for the most part in drunken oblivion, punctuated by 6am wake up calls, donut eating competitions, toga parties and Timomatic’s Set if Off playing 2673927 times. A week of bonding, of dancing, of really getting to know what IH is all about...before the reality of what we are all actually meant to be doing in Melbourne started (by that I mean uni).

Week 2 - P WEEK!IHers came together as one, as the rest of IH came home to join the new batch of freshers. Fun was had by all as we got to know the IH community..

Week 3 - IH celebrated 40 years of ladies!“In June 1971, the council of International House agreed unanimously that the college should admit women as residents in the following year. The IH student population would never be the same again.”

Week 4 - Watermelon madness and World’s greatest shave! This week, not only were IHers covered in giant chunks of watermelon (yum?) but several brave lads shaved off their luscious locks to support charity.

Australia, New Zealand and South Africa will share the new Square Kilometre Array, the larg-est radio telescope ever built. The 2 billion AUD project will be the largest radio telescope ever built, with a total collecting area of over a square kilo-metre. It will require more computing power then currently exists to combine the signals of the vari-ous radio telescopes. The telescope will be able to survey the clouds of hydrogen gas that collapsed to form the first galaxies billions of years ago, map the positions of the nearest billion galaxies, and survey pulsars, dense objects that could hold clues to a more comprehensive theory of gravity.

A new massacre in Syria has been condemned by the world. Britain, and other countries, are in talk for a strong international response af-ter regime forces killed nearly a hundred peo-ple, including children, in the town of Hola.

The Catholic Church has been rocked by a se-ries of leaks, after the publication of a book exposing corruption and cronyism within the Catholic Church and the administration of the Holy See. Pope Benedict’s butler Paolo Ga-briele, has been accused of leaking the docu-ments, and has been arrested, awaiting charge.

Julia Gillard is under continued threat, with Labour sources saying that Government whip, Joel Fitzgib-bon, has been actively canvassing votes for another move against Gillard (in favour of Rudd.) It comes after Gillard has met fresh criticism over a move to allow Australia’s mining barons to easily source cheap foreign labour to work in the mines, upset-ting the unions. Additionally, Labour MP’s are be-coming very concerned about Labour’s low polling.

SpaceX Dragon, the first privately-funded spacecraft to supply the International Space Station, has docked successfully. The spacecraft brought supplies for the crew and a new mod-ule for the station. The role of privately funded craft will likely become greater as NASA dis-continued the Space Shuttle program last year.

What IS CIA Week?

A week packed with awesome activities!

Unlike O-week, EVERYONE is welcome to participate, so it is basically a col-lege-bonding time for IH.

A time to make new friends! In addition to having an awesome time with your existing friends, you’ll get to know people you normally wouldn’t hang out with. More importantly, this is the week when you’ll get to know the lovely

freshers of Semester 2!

Typical CIA week activities include: Back to School Party, Trivia Night, Assassins, “The long walk home”, Yum Cha, the River Cruise, as

well as a bunch of other cool activities!

These activities have been done in the past; however, they are not set in stone. If you have an awesome idea for other activities we could do this year,

please let me (Matilda Broe) know!

So when is it?

1ST week back of Semester 2: the 22nd to the 28th of July!
