2015 :A CRITICAL YEAR

• The Sendai Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction

• Financing for Development

• The Post 2015 Intergovernmental negotiation and Leaders’ summit in September

• Paris COP

• Reoccuring theme : LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND

LDC’S : POTENTIAL TO BE LEFT BEHIND

• High population growth rate of 2.2%

• unemployment rate of 15-24 year olds was 54% in 2010 • 47.6% for males and 61.8% for females

• Young people accounted for more than a half (51.7%) of all the unemployed

• A recent survey on Gender Based Violence indicate that 68% of our women ages 15 to 49 were being exposed, usually at home, to gender based violence in one way or another by their partners and male members of the family.

• Our child mortality rate is 71 compared to 30 for the MDGs

• 30% of mothers are delivered by traditional methods outside the hospital,

• Our score card for the Millenium Development Goals is one of the weakest in the Pacific region.
