PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR:

FINAL PLOT IDEA BY LUCY MORRISSEY AND BETH HAYES

Page 2: Final plot idea-Lucy and Beth

FEEDBACK FROM OUR FIRST PLOT IDEA

We both thought that it would be beneficial for us to receive feedback on a first draft of our plot to ensure that we are going to appeal to our target audience. The target audience

feedback can be seen below:

5 PART TODOROV PLAN OF

THE PLOT

This is our plot for our psychological horror trailer:

• A teenage girl called Lucy moves to a new town with her family and starts a new school

• On her first day she makes new friends who tell her about the girl called Melinda who has been missing for years after entering the frightening woods.

• Lucy gets tricked into going into the woods by a demon and and sees Melinda who is possessed and tries to kill her.

• She manages to get away but starts seeing the girl in numerous different places

• The “missing” girl’s body was found and the demon ends taking control of Lucy's body (new equilibrium)

IDEAS..

• Possible Title: Melinda (This will be the name of the missing girl)

• We got this idea by typing in ‘scary names’ into google and doing some research into other film title names. We also used a thesaurus to help us.

• Possible Shots/Lighting:

• Establishing shot at the beginning of the trailer to give the audience a better understanding of where the film will be set.

• Low key lighting will be used throughout the trailer to make the shots throughout the trailer look scarier.

• Low camera angles will be used when the girl walks into the woods to make it look like she has more power as she starts to turn evil.

• Close ups will be used to show the girls facial expression

• Extreme Close ups: showing close up of girls eye and

• Editing: Fade to black/Jump cuts

• The pace of the trailer will speed up as the trailer goes on to make the audience want to see the film as they won’t see the full storyline within the trailer.

• Voiceovers narrating the story

IDEAS..

• Key Characters: The girl (Melinda-Main Character) and her friends who go to school with her and the “murdered” girl. We decided that a girl would be the main character because you don't associate a girl with being evil as girls

are normally associated with being more innocent. The girl will also be 17, which will appeal to the target audience as it give the film a sense of realism and allows the audience to picture themselves in that situation.

• Setting: School/ Woods. This will allow us to meet the needs of our target audience as we will be able to show the evil developing within the girl and how it effects her everyday life. This also may allow our target audience to be

able to relate to the story line rule.

• Genre: Psychological Horror

The moodboard that I created supports our main characters and setting because most of them show a young girl. This will appeal to the audience because they will always be left wondering what is going to happen next. Also, the setting of the mood board

shows most of the psychological horror films being set in a woods or a haunted house.

INSPIRATION/IDEAS..

Style/Inspiration: We got our inspiration from films such as ‘Orphan’ and ‘The women in black’ and Insidious. These were all successful psychological horror films, which gave us ideas on how we can make our trailer appeal to our target audience.

• Orphan is a psychological horror film about a girl who is adopted by a family. This film helped us decide the main characters and location for our film because they don’t just use one location whereas other films may just use one location e.g. a haunted house. We also liked the costumes used in Orphan as the old fashioned costumes created a

scary atmosphere.

This differentiates our horror film because we are using more than one setting, it is not all just set inside a house.

This research also gave us ideas for the promotion of our film as they used:

Print: Film Poster

Broadcast: Trailer

E-Media: social networking sites

CASTING...

• Antagonist: Melinda

• Protagonist: Lucy

• However, by the end of the trailer Lucy becomes the antagonist because what she has seen in the woods had an effect on her (New equilibrium)

• Other characters: Lucy's new friends and family.
