  • FlierDescription: Black and white flier to promote a Graduate Leadership Conference.

Process: I began by receiving the information, images, logo, and text content. I was informed of the desired outcome for the flier and began by sketching four designs, I chose one of my sketches and began to create such design on the Adobe InDesign program. I used black boxes with white text for contrast and used white space by leaving open area on the opposite side of the majority of the text.

Message: The message is for those college graduates who desire to have the upper edge in business. The picture used is more of a happy/laughing photo to portray the message that the conference wont be just another boring conference, but one to be enjoyed.

Audience: My audience is geared towards 22-30 year old graduating seniors.

Top Thing Learned: I learned about the importance of white space, and how white space doesnt necessarily have to be white, rather negative space. Also, the need for alignment is essential to have a clean project.

  • BrochureDescription: An offset folding brochure.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I set up my folds and margins in adobe indesign using the dimensions I learned in the previous activity. I began by creating my logo in illustrator. I wanted it to be simple, which is why I used the triangles to create a larger trian-gle. Then I began designing my brochure based on the simplicity of my logo. I found a font that I felt really represented the fluency and curvature of what yoga is, and stuck with that for a design theme. I used adobe photoshop to erase the background from my yoga poses images turning it into a png. Then I clipped the acroyoga image added it to my brochure and used the easter egg text wrap around it. I chose to use images with similar pale blue colors to go along with my color scheme and I used orange bars to break things up and create a design element. For the side bar I chose to use the same font from my logo to create a design using words that describe yogo, I made them different sizes with some facing side ways and vertical. I made a point to keep the images and bars aligned towards the right for easier reading.Message: To convince the audience that yoga is important for the health of the common population.Audience: Anyone and everyone. All skill and body types can par-ticipate in yoga.Top Thing Learned: I learned how important it is to use layers properly, to add new layers and lock layers in order to make things easier on my life.Color scheme and color names: Complementary. • StationaryDescription: Using a personally designed logo in a matching business card and letterhead.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I began by creating my logo in ado-be illustrator. I used the pen tool to draw out my tree. I used the ellipse tool to make my leaves and the anchor point to make the points on the leaves. Then I used the rotate tool to copy the leaves and I duplicated them to make them consistent. Next, I used the rectangle tool to create the swing. I chose contrasting fonts to add my company name. I used this logo to create my business card and letterhead in Adobe Indesign. I began by using the rulers to create the right size for the business card, then placed my logo on one side of the card, to create visual interest keeping it out of the center. On the other side of the card I took the leaves from my logo to carry over the design principles, added the text left align and then added bars for separation and to keep the eye interested. For my letterhead I also used Indesign. I began by placing my logo. Then I added a bar on the top using colors from the logo at a lower opacity to maintain contrast. I added the camera and put it at 9% opacity. I aligned the informative text with the tree branch and the edge of the camera lens. Then I added the two bars on the bottom to create a fluency between the business card and the letterhead.Message: The company wants to portray a fun easy going atmosphere with their photography, through these designs the customer can know they will have a fun experience when they take photos with this com-pany.Audience: The audience is geared more towards families, especially with kids, who would need photos taken.Top Thing Learned: I learned that indesign and illustrator are very different and take a lot of practice to master. Also, it is so important to carry certain design elements with you throughout the project in order to make things flow.Color scheme and color names: Scheme: Analogous Colors used: Green, teal, blueTitle Font Name & Category: Elbrima Bold, Sans SerifCopy Font Name & Category: Javanese Text, Serif

  • Web Page

Description: Web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):I created this web page using only Notepad++. I have no prior experience writing HTML or CSS. As I learned simple things about how to write code, I was able to design a simple website to showcase my logo. I used W3schools for help when I was stuck and didnt know how to do some-thing.I was able to use the website to validate my code. After I changed the different elements of my HTML to make it right with the guidelines, I downloaded the css document and began to work on that to make it more design friendly. I changed the fonts and colors to go well with the color scheme of my logo, I made sure these colors were exact by using the hex number in photoshop from my logo. I also changed my fonts to Palatino Linotype and Verdana. I declared some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have these fonts. I also used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be too close to the edge of the web page.

Programs/Tools Used: Notepad++ & PhotoshopMessage: This website is a place you can go to gain further knowledge about painted pottery studios.Audience: Anyone interested in crafts and pottery.Top Thing Learned: The importance of being exact in your code, one little error will mess up the whole website.Color scheme and color hex(s): Monochromatic- Brick. #A33622, #EF652E, Title Font Families & Category:Palatino Linotype, Book Antiqua, Palatino, serif;Copy Font Families & Category:Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;Changes made to the CSS: I changed the font families, the colors to match the logo, and the background to an image of a brick feeling.Word Count: 461

  • Montage

Description: A montage blending two images together to make an inspirational poster, with good use of typography.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken while designing):I first added the background image. I adjusted the levels. Then I added a filter to the background image called soft light.I used the lasso tool with 100% feather weight to grab the person praying and the ground in which he is praying on, I resized the image holding down shift to get it to the right proportion.I added a mask and used the brush tool to blend it into the back-ground image, having the sky come through.Next I dropped the color wheel on my image and decided on two col-ors opposite each other, I used those for my text. I tried different fonts and weights and decided to make the word height vertical for a bit of a play on words.I used the rectangle tool to add bars under my two focus words.Using the brush tool I lightened part of the sky for contrast with the words.Program used: Adobe PhotoshopMessage: The message is to show that the highest you can ever be is when you are on your knees praying, because its when youre closest to God. Using the rock climber as contrast to that message, he is up high yet the man praying is still higher.Audience: The audience is for all who need a bit of inspiration and a reminder to talk to God regularly to receive strength and a boost.Top Thing Learned: I learned how important in a montage it is to en-sure that the image is blended well enough so you cant tell where one image begins or ends.Filter / Colorization used and where it was applied: The Filter I used was the soft light filter on the background image only.Color scheme and color names: Complementary color scheme, Brick and TealTitle Font Name & Category: News Gothic MT regular, Sans SerifCopy Font Name & Category: News Gothic MT Bold, Sans Serif

  • Logos

Description: Three logo variations for the same company.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): In adobe illustrator I created all three of my logos. For my first logo I began by creating a rectangle and a circle and making them one shape by using the shape build-er tool, then I used the pen tool and selected a few anchor points and manipulated the chard edges to make it more look like a pot that has just came off the wheel. I also used the pen tool to bring a curve on the top of the pot to create the illusion that it is 3d. I then made three text boxes and added my words. For the second logo I used the ellipse tool to create the handle and the brush, I used the eraser tool to create the fun tip at the end of my brush, I merged the shapes together with the shape builder tool, then I created the paint drop using the pen tool. I added the words to the bottom using sep-arate text boxes. For the third logo I created a rectangle and added the text to the box. I added three horizontal stripes at the top of my box to create a nice color scheme and then I used the pen tool, making multiple anchor points to create one half of the pot, then I used the reflect tool to mirror the half of the pot i had created so it would be identical on both sides. I used the pot I created to make up the Os in the text.Message: Painted Pottery Studio is a studio where you can make or buy the greatest, artistic pottery.Audience: The audience ranges from 16+, it is for anyone who en-joys art and has a desire to make some themselves.Top Thing Learned: I learned how valuable the pen tool is, and knowing how to use it makes a significant difference in my designs.Three Color Scheme and Color Names: Top logo- Split complemen-tary, Middle logo- Monochromatic, Bottom logo- Analogous. Top: Gold, Blue, Purple. Middle: Brick. • Event AdDescription: This is an event ad for a cake company putting on a Bake Sale to support the local boys and girls club. The company is donating all the baked goods and all the proceeds go to this charity.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I used Micro-soft word, I began by creating a custom canvas using the shape tool. I added my picture and removed a good part of the back-ground of the background to make a nice long rectangle shape with the picture. I used multiple text boxes to add the text and heading. And added three rectangle shapes, one for the fill on the right side, I added the color blue as the fill. The other two rectangles were added to frame the name of the company and the charity. I made sure to align the text and bars with the title in order to ensure a good clean alignment.Message: The message is to get people craving those delicious cookies so that they will come out to the bake sale and support the boys and girls club. The prices vary substantially so that all types of people can come enjoy.Audience: Any one who likes baked goods, which is why there is a great difference in price, anyone can afford it!Color scheme and color names: Monochramatic. BlueTop Thing Learned: I learned that there are many more friendly pro-grams that would be a lot easier to design on. Its definitely import-ant to print and fix! I had to try a few different times to get the colors I wanted.Title Font Name & Category: Rockwell Extra, Slab SerifCopy Font Name & Category: Candara, Sans Serif

  • Photo Designescription: Demonstrate photography skills and photoshop image and design editing. Create a full bleed, color poster layout with said photo.Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): Began by using a digital camera to take a photo using the rule of thirds and indoor lighting, I took a photo of my roommate wearing all shades of Red in her clothing and makeup, in order to have a Red monochromatic color scheme. Uploaded photo onto photoshop and edited the photo, adjusting colors, hues, sharpness, etc. I used the eye dropper tool to take the color from the dress for the background, then I used the gradi-ent tool to fade the background out at the edge. I used the eyedropper tool for all the colors used in the design, taking swatches from her lipstick to the shadows on her dress. I used repetition with the design in the circles framing the image on either side, also using repetition in the colors of the circles.Message: The message is that Andrea is confident in her bright red lipstick and red dress. Anyone can be confident, they just have to choose how confident they will be. Just like Andrea, she chose how much lipstick she would wear, and she was confident in wearing it.Audience: My audience is to college and high school age women. The pinks and reds in the design will attract their attention, and the message is mainly for them, because they generally deal with confidence issues and they wear makeup!Top thing learned: I learned to prepare ahead for the photo I want to take and to allow ample time for any unanticipated occurrences. I also learned the importance of using a color scheme in a design to create a pleasant visual experience.
