Welcome LetterDear Colleagues,

we have all been experiencing over the last few months an unprecedented “gen-eral crisis”. The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our lives and among other things also the face-to-face meetings as authorities have imposed travel restric-tions and physical distancing.

While we all can’t wait to meet each other again LIVE in Colombo (Sri Lanka) on November 18-20, 2021, at the VII IFSO APC CONGRESS, our responsibility as an IFSO Chapter is to reach out to all our member Societies and individual mem-bers to take all possible measures to provide the safest possible environment for themselves and their loved ones.

Nevertheless we want to assure our Members the possibility for educational ex-changes, scientific news and best practice updates.

For this reason we have decided, until we meet again in person in the beautiful Colombo (Sri Lanka) next year, to organize an IFSO APC VIRTUAL CONGRESS, so as not to miss the opportunity to meet, even if only on the web, and exchange opinions on our profession.

We are glad to invite you to join our first IFSO APC VIRTUAL CONGRESS 2020 which will take place on November 27-28, 2020, while continuing to take care of yourself, your family, your colleagues and those around you.

THE IFSO APC SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

About IFSO-APCIFSO-APC was founded in September/October 2008 and had its constitution passed by the Executive and Council at the meeting in Argentina.

Formation of this regional chapter will help having IFSO meetings in this part of the world and hence new researches and findings would surface. Along with this, this would also encourage multi-cultur-al transfers. By enlarging the awareness about Bariatric procedures is on the high all over the Asia-Pacific region. The growing number of societies and Bariatric procedures has been evi-dent.

The founding president was Harry Frydenberg. The committee consisted of two representatives from each founding country, which were:

• India - Sanjay Borude and Shirhari Dhorepatil (OSSI)

• Australia - Harry Frydenberg and Rob Fris (OSSANZ)

• Japan - Isao Kawamura and Iwao Sasaki (JSSOM)

Subsequently Council members from the United Arab Emirates, South Af-rica, Saudi Arabia and Philippines became affiliated to the APC and the first meeting was held in March 2009 together with the Australian OSSANZ meeting in Cairns, Australia. This was attended by 150 people, of which 30 were from elsewhere in the Asia Pacific area.

Societies of the Asian Pacific Chapter up to July 2020: Australia-New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Iran, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand.
