civilisa*onhasnotadvancedasfarasearth.ThepeopleofPolyphemuss*llhuntfortheirfood;

howevertheanimalsandcreaturesofthisplanetarealotdifferenttowhatwehaveonearth.The

filmwillhaveauniquecolourscheme;thiswillbebecausethereisabluesunthatwarmsthe

planet.Thiswillalsomeantheplanetisratherdarkevenattheheightofdayandthenature

coloursoftheworldwillbedark,mainlypurplesandblues.Thecentralcharacterof‘TheLightin

theDark’willbeayounggirlnamedMia,whoisaroundtheageof8-10.SheisaliKle*midand

herfatherthinkssheshould‘toughen’up,thisisthereasonsheistakingoutonthehun*ngtrip.

Mia’smotherjoinsthetripasshedoesnotthinkMiaisready.

ThestorybeginswithMiaandherfamilyoutonahun*ngtripintheforestnearwheretheir

villageZorahislocated.Theforestistallandfulloftreeswithlargepurpleleaves;therearegiant

yellowfireflycreaturesthathelptoilluminatetheforest.ThisisMia’sfirst*meonahun*ngtrip,

soherparentsaretellingherhowtosurviveandteachingherhowtotrack.Theyfindanimal

tracksandbegintotrackit.Whiletrackingtheanimaltheypassswamps,andglowingberrybu

shes;theswampsradiateafaintpurplemist,thebusheshaveilluminatedblueberries.They

eventuallytracktheanimalthatwillsufficefortheirmeal,whentheyhearthehowlsofwolflike

creatures;thesearecalledMadoux.Theyhaveadarkbluefurlessskinbuttherebodiesare

formedaerodynamically,theyhavesnarlinglikebeaksandhavethreeeyes,twosidebysideand

oneabovethem,thesecreaturesarethemainpredatorofPolyphemus.Theybegintobacktrack

togetawayfromtheMadouxhowevertheyarenotfastenoughandaresurrounded.TheMadoux

pounceatthembutMia’sfatherfendsthemoffgivingMiaandhermotheropportunitygetaway.

Theyrunawayfromthefrayinarandomdirec*on,justtogetsafe,butoneoftheMadouxfrom

thepackno*cesthemrunningandbeginstopursuethem.WhenMiaandhermotherthinkthey

aresafetheytakesome*metogettoresttheirbreathbackbyasecludedwaterfall.Thewaterfall

hasgreenglowingwater.AstheyaredrinkingfromthewaterfalltheMadouxemerge.Mia’s

mothertellshertorunasshefightsoffthebeast.Miarunsintheoppositedirec*onasfastasshe

can,leavingthewaterfallinthebackground.

Asthedayprogresseson,thelightstartstofade.Miatriestobacktrackandseeifshecanfindher

parents,whenshehearsthefamiliarhowloftheMadoux.Shefindsacavecoveredinapurple

grassinwhichshehides.LiKledoessheknowthatthisisnotgrassbutinfactthefurofagiant,

ancientcreatureknownonlyasNeale.Miasitsinthecavewai*ngandsobbing,astheMadoux

howlsgrowfaint.Thecavethenbeginstorumbleandmove,Miarunsouttoseethecaveform

thegiantcreature.TheNealegetsupfromthefloorontoitsknees,s*llthree*mesbiggerthan

Mia.Itiscoveredinfureverywherebutitsheadwhichisadarkbluebulb,withfourglowingeyes.

Overitsheadhangsagiantstalkwithalanternlikeplanthangingfromit,crea*ngitsownlight

source.TherumblingandemergingoftheNealecreatesenoughnoisetoalerttheMadoux.The

MadouxmaketheirwayintotheareawhereMiaandtheNealestand.MiaterrifiedbytheNeale

backsawayslowlyun-awareoftheMadouxsurroundingher.TheMadouxpounceatMiabutthe

NealereactsbaKeringitaway[outofthescene].ThecreaturetowersoverMiashieldingherfrom

theotherMadoux,theythenretreat.MiarunsandhugstheNealeleg;abondformsbetweenMia

andthecreatureimmediately.MiaspeakstotheNealetryingtoexplainhersitua*onandasking

forhelp,hopingthecreatureunderstands.Thecreatureseemstounderstandhersitua*onand

picksupMiaandputsheronhisshoulder.

WhilethisishappeningMia’smotherandfather,whoarewar-torn,arelookingthroughtheforest

forMiawiththerestoftheZorahvillagers.TheNealetakesMiathroughtheforestshowingoffthe

landscapeoftheforest[VisualMontage].TheyreachtheoriginalpointwhereMiaandherfamily

wereaKackedbytheMadoux,asthesunrisesinthebackground.Unfortunatelyherparentsare

nottobefound.SuddenlytheMadouxpounce,MiaandtheNeale,thiscausesthecreatureto

dropMiaintoabush.TheNealefightsofftheMadouxasthevillageraKackfromthetressabove

thebushthatMiaisin.ThevillagersfightoftheMadoux;oncetheMadouxaregonetheyturnand

trytoaKacktheNeale.AtthispointMiacomesinandplacesherselfinfrontoftheNeale

screamingatthevillagersforthemnottoaKack.ThevillagersallowMiatotellherstory,she

summonsupthecouragetodoso.Thevillagers,aerhearingMia’sstory,announcetheNeale,

protectorsoftheforestandvillage.Ihavechangedthisstoryslightlytogiveitasolidending,

originallyIhadplanneditsothatwhenMiahadfoundherparents,shewasnotaccompaniedbya

giantcreature,ratherthegiantcreaturewashercourage;showinghowbraveshecouldbecome

underthecircumstanceshewasin.HoweverIfeltthatitmayseemabittoofarfetchedandsheis

tooyoungsoIdecidedtomakethecreaturerealandforhertomakeastandbetweenthe

creatureandthevillagerstoshownoteverycreatureintheforestisanenemy.
