Although covered by the stars head the way the writing looks automatically tells us that this is a fabulous magazine

There is limited colours so not to distract away from the star. The colours used are neutral and stay matching throughout the cover.

The star fills the page and eye contact on the first 3rd is essential to draw the reader in and make a personal feel to the cover

The words that relate to certain articles are touching something of that to show the reader this is what belongs to what and the reader therefore knows what to expect when reading the magazine/certain articles.

In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?Conventions of existing soap opera magazine

MY TRAILER

I used a variety of shot types from Close ups to two shots. This shot isn’t a shot you would conventionally see in the trailers like mine(slide..) I chose a variety of

locations that the demographic(see moodboard) would be able to relate to (car, house, restaurant, town centre)

We chose a costume that would portray a sense of glamour but we still wanted the feel that our demographic could relate. With some characters having a more relaxed costume but still the fresh precise look.

DEVELOPMENT IN STORYLINES

Along with the storylines relating to issues such as romance and cheating we added this extra character to create depth to the soap. Taken from a US series Gossip Girl the idea that this character has dramatic irony and knows and sees more than the character, its as if she knows what the audience is thinking throughout. Something we haven’t seen in a British soap opera yet.

DEVELOPDOES THE COMBINATION OF SOUND AND IMAGES TELL THE AUDIENCE HOW TO FEEL?

The song I chose was Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri. I chose this song as I felt it portrayed the emotions portrayed by the characters and also a hint to what the soap opera would entail.

USE

DOES THE EDITING CONNOTE THE EMOTIONS SHOWN IN THE TRAILER?

I started the trailer with a flashback which introduces the Gossip Girl character to the audience from the start. Just the diegetic sound is heard to show the importance of the line she says. The music kicks in when the door shuts to show the flashback has finished.

Page 13: Final question one

Develop American theme gossip girlSingle shots isolate the character. Know all see all. Talks to the audience. Dark colours, last character you see and irony! Link to the end of gossip girl. POV IS HERS

Page 14: Final question one

The lighting used here creates a mysterious feel to show the importance of the text message. The darkness of the scene, the message on the phone all contribute to the mystery of who is sending the message and the reason behind this.

In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?DO THE LIGHTING, PROPS, LOCATION AND COSTUME REINFORCE AUDIENCE EXPECTATIONS ABOUT YOUR PROGRAMME?

The characters hair and make up are fresh and done to look glamorous showing the class and status of the trailer.

Her clothing is smart yet black showing the mystery and the isolation from the other characters

NON DIEGETIC SOUND – DOES IT ADD MEANING? ARE THEY APPROPRIATE?

WE USED A NON DIEGETIC SOUND OF A CLAP BY AN OFF SCENE ACTOR TO CREATE THE SOUND ON PANDORAS FACE. THEY WERE STOOD IN CLEAR VIEW OF THE ‘FAKE SLAP’ AND CLAPPED WHEN IT TOOK PLACE. THIS ADDED A DRAMATIO EFFECT AND SHOCK WHEN THE AUDIENCE SAW IT.
