Click the Unpublished tab to see the pages that were created by default. You will see several different recurring

Top Tool Tabs:

Navigational Planks: The left navigational “planks” are the different pages of your site.

Clicking the planks, while in the Unpublished tab will allow you to edit each page.

Breadcrumbs: This links structure allows a visitor to go back to the previous level of pages.

Click the Home left navigational

plank.

There are 4 parts to your Home page:

Welcome

Bulletins

Calendar

Resources

These items are explained below.

Welcome text – Click the Unpublished tab again. Click the blue pencil on the far right in the box with the welcome message to change the welcome message, if desired. The message should be a short, one-line greeting message. Click Update Overview when done. There is no need to Publish changes made on this main Home page, they are automatically updated. Bulletins – Allows you to enter bulletins or announcements.

Click new bulletin.

Create your bulletin title and text.

Click Post Bulletin.

Your bulletin now appears. You can edit your bulletin by clicking the blue pencil icon.

Click the red x icon to delete your bulletin. Calendar – You can enter dates for your classroom calendar. The calendar is only displayed if you have filled out an event.

Click the blue pencil to create a new event.

The Calendar Manager page opens. Click New Event.

Enter an Event Title, Start Date, Start Time and Finish Time. You can input a location for the event. You can set the event to repeat.

Expand (click on the plus) My Website Calendars, select your class calendar. You can assign a color code based on the type of event it is.

Click Save and Publish. Resources: Folders – You can upload files for your visitors to access. It is important to organize your files properly with proper folders and naming conventions.

Click new folder.

Enter a folder name of Handouts.

Click Create Folder.

Click new folder again.

Type a folder name (e.g. Science) for the folder name.

Select Handouts from the Parent Folder dropdown menu.

Resources: Files – Now, you will see how to upload files and create links to be placed inside of these folders. In order to complete this section you will need a sample document. We strongly recommend that your files be saved in your network home folder. Please see the separate documents for both PC’s and Mac’s if you need assistance with saving files to your network home folder.

Click new resource under Resources on the main Home page.

Select the folder (e.g. Science) you created from the Folder dropdown box.

Enter a Resource Title such as Layers Of The Earth.

Select Upload a single file. Click Browse.

Navigate to the folder where your file is located.

Click the Post Resource button at the bottom of the page.

Click the Handouts folder to expand it. Click Science. You will see your document is present.

Homework Plank – Now you will explore the Homework plank and work with a page that you actually have to Publish for the changes to be visible to the visitors. You will also see and work with a gold e for editing.

Click the Homework plank on the left navigation.

Click the gold e icon in the far right of the page. A rich text editor opens.

Remember, this is only a template. You will need to update the date listings and assignments yourself.

You will see that the Homework listing is a small table that you can change the text from within. The rich text editing controls at the top are identical to what you would find in a program like Microsoft Word. These include bold, italic, underline, centering, font size and more. Click inside the blue box with the date and change the date to today’s date.

To change the text in the table, simply select the existing text and delete it with the delete or backspace keys.

Click the disk icon in the upper left of the rich text editing controls to save your changes.

Now, you must also click Save in the upper-left corner of the Homework screen.

Click the P in the upper-left corner of the Homework screen to publish your changes to visitors.

Click the Published tab at the top of the screen to verify that your changes are present.

Classroom Page Plank – Next is the Classroom plank. Similar to the Homework page, you will be editing this page by clicking the gold e in the upper-right corner.

Click the Classroom Page plank.

Click the gold e in the upper-right corner of the

Classroom Page. A rich text editor opens.

Enter some information about your classroom expectations, etc. to make changes to the page.

Click the disk icon in the upper-left corner to save your changes.

Uploading and Inserting an Image – Have the rich text editor open on the Classroom Page by clicking the gold e.

Click the insert image icon on the rich text editor menu.

Click the window box on the far-right to open the File Manager.

Click My Website Files.

Click New Folder in the upper-right corner. Type Images and click Create Folder.

Click your newly created Images folder.

Click upload files at the top.

Click add files at the bottom of the screen that opens.

Navigate to the folder where your image is located. If this is an image saved from your Teacherweb into your network folder, refer to the Saving From TeacherWeb document for more specific instructions on how to browse to your network folder.

Click the Open button.

Click Start Upload at the bottom of the Upload Files area.

Click the filename of the image to insert it into the page.

Click the Appearance of the tab.

Enter a dimension of your image of 150px wide x 100px high.

Click Insert at the bottom.

Image Size Guidelines – When sizing your images it is important to take into account the width of the image. We recommend that you keep your largest images below 250 pixels wide. (Wide is the first dimension box.)

Small images should be approximately 100 Pixels (px) wide.

Medium image should be approximately 140 Pixels (px) wide.

Large image should be approximately 250 Pixels (px) wide.

Click the disk icon on the rich text editor to save your changes.

Click Save and then P to publish in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Click Publish Selected.

View your changes on the Published tab.

Daily Schedule, Teacher Information, Links – You will utilize what you have learned in these prior exercises on these pages. Please see the additional handout of the explanation of all of the rich text editor controls. Below you will see how to add a link to the Links page with the rich text editor.

Make sure you are on the Unpublished tab and click the Links navigation plank.

Click the gold e on the far-right side of the screen.

Enter the text you would like for the link, highlight the text and then click the Link button.

Enter the address of the web-page in the Link URL field. Click the Insert button.

Click the disk icon to save your changes.

Click Save and then P to save and publish your change.
