West End Medical Centers, Inc Congratulates Commissioner Larry Johnson Africa’s Children’s Fund 2011 Legacy of Hope Recipient
Dear Guests: We are honored that you have joined us this evening. This year’s celebration is extra special since it is our eighteenth year of providing hope to children who live where hope is hard to find. This evening could not have been possible without the support of many including chefs, generous individuals, corporate sponsors, auction donors, and volunteers. On behalf of our organization, I welcome and thank you for all that you have done to make this evening a huge success. I also ask that you join me in saluting our honoree; Commissioner Larry Johnson for his outstanding leadership, dedication and support to programs that benefit children and families in need in our community. Africa’s Children’s Fund (ACF) is a non-profit organization that strives to help lessen the plight of suffering children in metro Atlanta and several countries in Africa and the Caribbean. Since 1993, our organization has been working to end the cycle of poverty by positively impacting the lives of these children. We believe that these children deserve hope. We know that if we want to see a better future, we must impact the lives of children today. That is why we, at Africa’s Children’s Fund, strive every day to provide mentoring, tutoring, sponsorships, books, and other services to children that need these resources the most. We have come so far in eighteen years, and yet we have so far to go to help save children to heal this world. With your continued support, we can succeed. With international cuisine, award presentation, an auction and dancing, we promise you a grand evening. By participating in tonight’s event, you have the opportunity to make a direct impact in the lives of children. The proceeds of this event will support our Gift of Books, emergency assistance, and scholarship programs. Please bid generously in the auction. Thank you and may God continues to bless you. Sincerely,
Victor Mbaba

Mistress of Ceremony
Evelyn Mims Ask anyone who knows her, Evelyn Mims is the hardest working woman in Atlanta. There is a small segment of leaders in media, communications and the volunteer world who seem able to build relationships, trust and rapport with anyone. Evelyn is one of those people! Her style allows her to make connections between people, create partnerships, and motivate others to “rise above.”
Evelyn Mims is the force that keeps WXIA running day-to-day. Although she wears several hats, she is officially the Community Relations Specialist for the entire station, and Associate Producer for Atlanta & Company. While navigating the promotions department, news department and everything in between, she IS the “go to” person. If there is a problem to be solved, Evelyn has the solution. Every community organization and community leader who meets her recognizes her solution-based thinking. Currently she serves on the advisory board of the Shepherd Center, which specializes in treatment, care, and rehab of spinal cord injuries and disease. She also serves on the board of “Project Open Hand” where she lends her advice and “know how” on various projects. While managing both boards, she also finds time to serve on the board of The Black Women in Film Preservation Project, and volunteers with AID Atlanta and PALS. Her community involvement does not stop there. Each year Evelyn can be found chairing, hosting and promoting events for the March of Dimes and Hosea Feed the Hungry. Because of her dedication to the Atlanta community she was honored as most valuable Atlanta volunteer and featured on The Discovery channel. Evelyn’s Television career has spanned more than 30 years. A Graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi, and active member of the Delta Sigma Theta organization, her first job were at NBC affiliate WLBT, later moving to WXIA. She has worked in every corner of the industry, from syndication, programming, promotion, production and special events. This immense knowledge led her to be voted as President of the Southeast Chapter of National Television Academy of Television Art & Sciences. She remains the only two-term woman President in the history of the chapter. Evelyn’s grace, sense of humor and shear talent can be seen each week on Atlanta & Company. As the “Soap Sultress”, she dishes out the dirt and latest gossip on all the national Soap Operas. Her work in front of the camera, as well as, behind the scenes garnered her three Emmy nominations on 11Alive’s top rated “Noonday” show, leading to guest appearances on Days of Our Lives. Evelyn has helped lead and nurture Atlanta’s Community for the more than three decades. She remains on the cusp of technology mastering the art of social media. She is a valued and trusted individual who stands for quality and hard work.
