    Previous Weeks Lesson The Previous week focused on teaching the students how to listen Intensively to information andrespond to questions correctly with a Movie theme. The students seemed to grasp the gist of the articles, but severalstudents seemed to struggle with recalling critical information when tested on the information.By the end of the week- I want the students to become more comfortable writing and speaking English. My heavy emphasison writing and class discussion will ensure that the students will become more confident when speaking or writing English.My Class Level: High School age intermediate students with a good grasp of the basics of speaking English.Lesson 1 (Writing Focus)Class Intermediate English 201 (30 Students)Date - 2-6-2013

    Level IntermediateLesson Duration 60 Minutes

    Aim The Students will be introduced to the Food's unit and will get a better understanding of Intensive reading and writing.The students will create a writing project together in groups.

    Assumptions The students will possess a basic knowledge of reading and writing. The students will also know how to readand respond to material Intensively.

    Expected Problems - I may need to cut speaking time, as to allow the students time to complete the in class project.

    Materials Articles and worksheets for 30 students. A Blackboard.

    Warm-Up (Time) Collect Fridays homework and go over the answers together.(5)

    Introduction (Time) Introduce the Food unit, go over the vocabulary list for the upcoming practice activity* (Vocab Section)and discuss several of the classes favorite foods. (10)

    Presentation (Time) Show the class several food items from home and discuss them together. (10)

    Practice (Time) The class will be broken up into groups andtasked to read a typical American buffet menu for the week*(With the weekend blank) and write down their suggestions for the weekend days, explaining why they suggested each item.The project will then be passed forward to be graded afterward (25 Minutes) (*See Worksheet 1)

    Production (Time) The class will then individually write a paragraph about what they contributed to the group project andwhy, then passing them forward to be graded. (10)

    Review (Time) The Class will then self proofread their paragraph, the teacher will assist when possible. (5)

    Homework (Time) The class will be tasked to write two paragraphs about an American food item that they like. (Time

    Remaining)Post LessonThe Next Lesson The Next lesson will focus on extensive listening and classroom discussion.Lesson 2 (Listening Focus)Class Intermediate English 201 (30 Students)Date - 2-8-2013Level IntermediateLesson Duration 60 Minutes

    Aim The students will gain more experience listening extensively and writing about what they heard.

    Assumptions The students will possess a basic knowledge of how to speak in English on a basic level. The students willnot have a problem speaking as a group.

    Expected Problems - I have to watch out for students who have issues speaking English in a group setting.

    Materials A computer with a internet connection and a projector with decent speakers. If this is not possible, I will have aalternate audio version of related material that I will play on a boombox or tape recorder. (For this lesson plan I will assumethat I have all the material that I need)

    Warm-Up (Time) Have several volunteers read their homework aloud, collecting the homework afterward.(10)

    Introduction (Time) Have the class discuss what kind of etiquette or manners they commonly display at home. (10)

    Presentation (Time) Show the class a short clip of a family eating for the upcoming practice. (5)

    Practice (Time) We will then discuss what we felt were examples of good manner and bad manners in the clip. (15)

    Production (Time) The class will then be tasked to individually write down a paragraph response to the clip detailing how thefamily could show better manners. (10)

    Review (Time) Have a few volunteers read their paragraphs to the class then passing them forward to be graded later (5).

    Homework (Time) The class will be tasked to write down what their favorite food is and how to prepare it (2 paragraphs

    minimum). I would encourage the class write about home cooked meals for this assignment.     Aim Strengthen the classes confidence and skill when speaking English to a crowd.

    Assumptions The class has no problems speaking in front of a crowd.

    Expected Problems - The class may have even more trouble speaking alone in front of a crowd. Although this may be risky, itwill greatly boost the confidence of the student's English speaking skills.

    Materials Blackboard

    Warm-Up (Time) Pass back any other assignments I have finished grading. (2)

    Introduction (Time) Explain to the class thetaskfor today; they will have to stand in front of the class and read theirhomework assignment. I will also answer any questions the class has (2)

    Presentation (Time) I will read what I wrote for the homework assignment (How to make Gumbo), bringing in a example ofthe food if I can. (2)

    Practice (Time) I will give the class some time to prepare their paragraphs and practice before speaking. (5)

    Production (Time) Each student will stand in front of the class and read their homework assignments. Each student willhave one minute to speak, but I will allow for more if they are struggling. (30-35)

    Review (Time) Have a discussion with the class afterward about the assignment and what they have learned this week. (5)

    Homework (Time) The students will betasked to try one new item of food over the weekend and be prepared to talk about itMonday. (1)Post LessonThe Next Unit - Will have a News theme, focusing on reading, especially articles and newspapers.

    Worksheet 2Vocabulary

    1. Pizza A flat, open-faced baked pie invented in Italy. It is usually a thin layer of baked bread dough topped with avariety of foods including; cheese, pepperoni, mushroom and much more. It is special in that every country and state

    usually has a different way of making it.2. Pancake A thin layer of batter (or cake) fried on both sides in a griddle or frying pan.

    3. Buffalo Chicken A piece of Fried chicken basted with hot sauce. It's simplicity allows for a great range of flexibilitywhen preparing it, like substituting hot sauce for honey or making many smaller pieces of Buffalo chicken to serveas a meal.

    4. Smore Also called S'more, it consists of a roasted marshmallow and a piece of chocolate between two graham

    crackers. It is a American campfire classic invented by the girl scouts of America in 1927.

    5. Teriyaki A dish of grilled slices of beef, chicken or fish that have been marinated in soy sauce, seasoned with

    sake, ginger and sugar.

    6. Linguine It is a form of pasta that is flat, yet wider then spaghetti. Linguine is usually served with seafood or pesto.

    Because of it's bulkiness it has to be cooked slightly longer than spaghetti.

    8. Muffin A cup shaped quick bread made with wheat flour, cornmeal or the like and baked in a pan containing aseries of cup-like shapes.

    9. Snickerdoodle It is a type of cookie made with butter or oil, sugar and flower rolled in cinnamon sugar. Eggs mayalso be used as a ingredient. It originated in Germany as a type of pastry.

    10. Tostada A tortilla fried until crisp and topped with a variety of ingredients, like shredded meat or chicken, beans

    lettuce and cheese.

    11. Tortilla A thin, round type of bread prepared from cornmeal or sometimes wheat flower. It is baked on a flat plateof iron, earthenware or the like.

    12.Minestrone A thick vegetable soup, often containing herbs, beans, pasta, etc and served with Parmesan cheese.
