The 2018 Financial Aid Directory was developed to aid Native students in pursuing a college education. The directory provides summarized information for each funding source.

THE DIRECTORY HAS THREE SECTIONS, AS FOLLOW:

Local and Regional - aboriginal and existing Haudenosaunee or Six Nations territories and the northeastern U.S.

National - the United States Appendix - helpful contacts and information Refer to the Appendix to best search for additional funding sources available in your area of study, from employers, groups and organizations, as well as internships that may lead to scholarship eligibility. For Natives who are not of one of the Six Nations, identify the local and regional sources available with your affiliated Nation, Tribe, or Band.

The directory summaries are not all-inclusive. Ask the Administrator contact if additional information is needed for a complete application. Students must request applications directly from the Administrator of the grant/scholarship.

The Native American SUNY: Western Consortium office does not provide or obtain applications.

Students should also seek and apply for scholarships that target underrepresented or minority students. The Native American SUNY: Western Consortium is supported by the State University of New York (SUNY) to provide assistance to students in Haudenosaunee or Six Nations communities in western and central New York State. The students must be pursuing an undergraduate degree. Enrolled at Tuscarora Nation and be a student attending a SUNY school. The Tuscarora Environment Office, and Jamie Gilbert’s office at Niagara Wheatfield. Keep checking for the 2018-19 application. The scholarship pays the tuition for the SUNY school for four years of undergraduate study.

The Graduate Diversity Fellowship Program is a SUNY-wide initiative that offers fellowships to students who have been admitted to graduate or professional study. This program is intended to assist in the recruitment, enrollment and retention of students in doctoral and master’s level programs who can demonstrate that they contribute to the diversity of the student body, especially those who can show that they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education.

Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and must contribute to the diversity of the graduate program to which they have been admitted. Economic or other disadvantage may be a basis for assessing a student’s contribution to enhancing diversity Membership in a racial/ethnic group that has historically been underrepresented in the graduate or professional program may serve as a plus factor in awarding scholarships. Consideration to students who are of a race or ethnicity that is underrepresented in its graduate and professional programs but may not make awards solely on that basis.

Native Americans and Pacific Islanders from the U.S., including U.S. Trust Territories, and Indigenous peoples from Canada are eligible for these scholarships. These scholarships will support attendance at training programs in archaeological methods offered by accredited colleges or universities.
