Say hello to Dana Lakins, Greater Cleveland’s First Lady of automobile service. As Lincoln Specialist at Nick Mayer Lincoln in Westlake, Dana is a uniquely qualified part of the Nick Mayer family of service pros and Quick Lane resources. “We are blessed to have her here with just a ton of Lincoln experience and capability,” says Nick Nunnari, Nick Mayer Lincoln Service Manager. “It is phenomenal in the automobile service field to have a lady who knows her cars and knows the business.” With over 20 years experience as a dealership service manager, Dana did not come up the easy way. In a field dominated by men, she mastered specialty knowledge in every area of mechanics and car repair to earn her credentials. “My approach to a customer might be a little different as a woman. Not better than a man. But

different,” says Dana. “Coming up, I had to make sure ev-ery training situation for certification was perfect. Now, as Lincoln Specialist, I am able to help the customer under-stand everything. I really had to push and take all the tech-nical classes in order to earn my qualifications.” Her most recent affiliation was a seven-year career as Service Manager at the now-Nick Mayer’s Marshall Ford Lincoln in Mayfield Hts. She came up through service roles at Liberty Ford and Mullinax Ford, each time adding cre-dentials. She credits her parents for her mechanical aptitude. Her mom, Diane Vargo, is a retired Lubrizol Corp. chem-ist. Her dad, Frank Ortolani, is a professional programmer and an expert in Corvettes. Dana also followed her mom’s lead by graduating from Notre Dame College in Eastlake. As a child, Dana spent time at her uncle’s service station. It is a family that honors tradition. These traditions make her a great fit at Nick Mayer

Spring is here! That means planning has begun for the 2014 Westlake in Bloom Community Beautification Program. “We will again showcase the beautiful landscaping and gardens of residences and businesses in Westlake,” reports Westlake
It’s “Westlake in Bloom” Time Again!in Bloom Coordinator Jean Smith. “As in previous years, we anticipate many lovely gardens deserving of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs,’ along with one or two spectacular gardens that really stand out.” Westlake residents and business own-
ers can enter their gardens in one of 21 categories, which will be judged in July. Awards in each category will be presented at a ceremony on August 13 at LaCentre. Many photos of the winning gardens will be on display that evening.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the city’s website at www.cityofwestlake.org and mailed to Westlake in Bloom, City of Westlake, 27700 Hilliard Boulevard,
Westlake, OH 44145. Or drop them off at the reception desk at Westlake City Hall. Entry forms are also available at any of these Westlake garden centers: Cahoon Nursery, Dean’s Greenhouse, Gale’s West-lake Garden Center, or Plant Crafters. Deadline for entries to be received is Friday, June 27, at 5 p.m. Every Hilliard Boulevard flower box, Evergreen Cem-etery Memorial Fence garden, and Adopt-a-Bed garden will be entered automati-cally in the judging.
