students are given an opportunity to
experience each industry’s in-
demand jobs through hands-on,
interactive demonstrations – with
working professionals available to
answer questions and inspire!
Origin of Event West Michigan Works! launched
MiCareerQuest in Grand Rapids in 2015:
• Today – 9,000+ Students
• 10 Sponsors
• 100+ Employers
Their 2018 Event is April 25.
Success Factors
• Employer-Led Event
• Focus is on Career Awareness and Jobs –
Not Employer Branding
• Demonstrations are exciting and
inspirational
The Plan: Goals • 10,000 high school students participate
and gain a better understanding of a
career they want to pursue
• Employers from the four sectors start to
build their future talent pipeline
• Post-Event: Teachers and Counselors
help students achieve their goals
Exhibit Structure • Exhibits focus on in-demand jobs and
career opportunities in four sectors, not
specific companies
• Quadrant exhibit space piped and draped
with branded colors and entrance/exit
signage to facilitate student movement
• 20-25 exhibitors per career quadrant
• Working Professionals helping with
demonstrations and available for
questions
Event Logistics
• Approximately 10,000 student slots will be
allocated to schools across region on a
first come, first-serve basis
• Day is split into three, two-hour sessions
• Sessions start at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m.
and Noon; approximately 3,300 students
at each
• Students start at assigned quadrant and
move through hall to experience all four
industry sectors
A Successful Exhibit
• Showcases Tools of the Trade
• Features an Interactive Task
• Integrates Technology
• Has Enthusiastic Working
Professionals to Inspire Students
Employers and working
professionals can create a
great student experience by:
• Coordinating well with their industry peers
• Building an impactful demonstration that helps
