Object and Subject

The object of the investigation is divided into two groups 1) Russians and Germans at the age of 20-60 who moved from unemployment into a job2) Russians and Germans at the age of 20-60 who were and stay unemployed

The subject is factors influencing the probability of finding a job after unemployment

The Aim and TasksThe aim: to find out factors influencing the probability of

finding a job after unemployment in Russia and Germany.

To achieve the aim it is necessary to set the following tasks:

To describe who are the unemployed (particularly long-term) in Russia and Germany?

To reveal factors that have a negative / positive impact on finding a job after unemployment in each country.

To find and to explain differences and similarities between countries.

Methodology

1st task methods of descriptive statistics (frequencies and crosstabulations, methods of comparing means etc.)

2nd task regressional analysis: binary logistic regression

Database and Variables Russian Longitude Monitoring Survey, RLMS (Russia), 2001-

2007 German Socio-Economic Panel, GSOEP (Germany), 2001-

2007

VariablesDependent: Successfulness in a job finding after unemployment (two

groups who are succeed and are not)

Independent (in t-1 period): wave (year) socio-economical and demographic characteristics of

employees (sex, region, family structure, education etc.) ways of job searching duration of unemployment or economic inactivity expectations about future job etc.

Hypothesis Positive factors of finding a job:

Duration of unemployment (short term), Education (higher), Sex (male), Age (30-40), Type of area (urban), Region (West Germany, Moscow, St.

Petersburg), Family structure (partnership, no children at

the age of 0-3 years), Year (2006 in Germany and 2003-2006 in

Russia) etc.
