This is a question I get from time to time and thought it would be a good idea to share in a blog. Let’s take the Table to Table Attribute check as an example. Use Case: Many times you might want to use a lookup table to ensure your data has valid values, instead of using a really large domain containing hundreds of values that you have to pick from or you may want to validate values in a shapefile before loading into a geodatabase. When using a lookup table, you should verify that your values have a match. For example, the Address Data Management template, on the Local Government Resource Center , contains a MasterStreetName table. This table can be used to check if the street names in the StreetCenterline feature class are valid. The Table to Table Attribute check in Data Reviewer allows you to do that. Here’s how you would configure the check: Feature or Object Class 1: RoadCenterline (polyline feature class) Feature or Object Class 2: MasterStreetName (table) Compare Attributes: FULLNAME = FULLNAME Not – find rows that do not match: True

Just recently, I was asked why a check does not return the proper results. This is a question I get fromtime to time and thought it would be a good idea to share in a blog. Let’s take the Table to TableAttribute check as an example.

Use Case: Many times you might want to use a lookup table to ensure your data has valid values, instead of using a really large domain containing hundreds of values that you have to pick from or youmay want to validate values in a shapefile before loading into a geodatabase. When using a lookuptable, you should verify that your values have a match.

For example, the Address Data Management template, on the Local Government Resource Center, contains a MasterStreetName table. This table can be used to check if the street names in theStreetCenterline feature class are valid. The Table to Table Attribute check in Data Reviewer allows youto do that. Here’s how you would configure the check:

Feature or Object Class 1: RoadCenterline (polyline feature class)Feature or Object Class 2: MasterStreetName (table)Compare Attributes: FULLNAME = FULLNAMENot – find rows that do not match: True

Ensure proper results are returned: The trick is to first find where the FULLNAMEs match, then use theNOT option to switch the selection.

Keep an eye out for future blogs describing Data Reviewer automated check use cases for variousindustries. Happy Validating!
