ABOUT FINLANDFinland , officially the Republic of Finland,[5] is a Nordic country situated in the Fennoscandianregion of Northern Europe. It is bordered by Sweden in the west, Norway in the north and Russiain the east, while Estonia lies to its south across the Gulf of Finland.

Around 5.4 million people reside in Finland, with the majority concentrated in the southernregion. It is the eighth largest country in Europe in terms of area and the most sparsely populatedcountry in the European Union. Finland is a parliamentary republic with a central governmentbased in Helsinki and local governments in 336 municipalities, and an autonomous region of theÅland Islands. About one million residents live in the Greater Helsinki area, which consists ofHelsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa, and a third of the country's GDP is produced there.Other larger cities include Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä, Lahti and Kuopio.

Finland has a highly industrialized mixed economy with a per capita output equal to that of otherEuropean economies such as France, Germany, Belgium or the UK. The largest sector of theeconomy is services at 66%, followed by manufacturing and refining at 31%. Primary productionis 2.9%. With respect to foreign trade, the key economic sector is manufacturing. The largestindustries are electronics (22%), machinery, vehicles and other engineered metal products(21.1%), forest industry (13%) and chemicals (11%). The Greater Helsinki area generatesaround a third of GDP.

Finland’s public healthcare system is a very unique and comprehensive ecosystem. Primaryhealthcare and secondary care are networked into a comprehensive system that includescentral and university hospitals as well as healthcare centres. The Finnish domestic market offers an excellent platform to launch and develop innovativehealthcare products. Over 90% of the medical equipment produced in Finland is exported. And,as most product development involves wide international contacts, Finnish healthcarecompanies have excellent opportunities to expand directly into global markets.

The Medical device industry is primarily focused on high-tech medical systems for professionalusers. It also concentrates on disposable and consumer-related health product segments.Finland is ranked among the world’s top ten countries in biomedical science and clinicalmedicine. Leading the list of key development areas in Finland are regenerative medicines, biomaterials, drug-releasing implants and tissue engineering.

I´m long time Finnish Parliamentarian – I have spent over 30 years inParliament. I am the Chairman of the Commerce Committee since 2003.Ihave held a committee chair position since the year 1987, when I becameleader of the Social and Health Committee and then the Labour and EqualityCommittee. During 1997-1999 I was acted as Ministerof Finance and in 1998 I was the Council leader of the European Central Bank(ECB).

This all means that my focus throughout these years has been on energy, banking and insurance sectors and consumer questions. We had a large bankcrisis in the 90´s and vast unemployment in Finland. I dealt with thesequestions as Minister of Finance. In the spring of 1998 I announced in theParliament session that the bank crises hadended in our country. We Finns know about debt, loans and also loans withoutguarantees. We decided to propose in our Commerce Committee to give twolicences for the building of nuclear plants in Finland and a licence for a nuclearwaste plant. These nuclear decisions have caused significant large interestaround the world.

Finland is a country of thousands of lakes and large forest areas. Finnishnature and the four seasons are typical of our life style. They are part of ourwelfare. I´m proud of Finland and my home city Lahti in Päijät-Häme.

Finland’s school system has come to the top ofinternational rankings for education systems. Thehigh-quality teachers who all have a Master’sDegree are the main factors of Finland’seducation success story.

The Finnish education system is composed ofnine-year basic education (comprehensiveschool), preceded by one year of voluntary preprimary education; upper secondary education, comprising vocational and general education; andhigher education, provided by universities anduniversities of applied sciences (UAS). Adulteducation is available at all levels.

Students' opportunities to progress from one levelof education to the next is safeguarded bylegislation. Both general and vocational uppersecondary certificates provide eligibility for furtherstudies in universities and UAS. A studentcompleting one level is always eligible for the nextlevel studies. The qualifications of each level aregoverned by a separate Act of Parliament. Basiceducation is free general education provided forthe whole age group. Fysakos therapy center has been established 1986. Fysari limited partnership boughtFysakos therapy center 2001. I, Saara Laatta became owner 2006 after working a yearin Fysakos as an employee. Fysakos is located in the centre of Lahti (vuorikatu 25).

When I started in Fysakos, it wasa small clinic with huge economical problems. After 7years, Fysakos has become bigger and we have a good reputation. First I was the onlyphysiotherapist, but now I have 4 employees. We provide individual rehabilitation formusculoskeletal pain sydromes and neurological diseases. Our competitive advantageis our variation of different paths in pain treatment, and rehabilitation process. We taketime with the patient and listen to the patient.Active movements start when the patient ishealed from the worst pain and ready for the next step. Pain is not an excuse foravoiding exercise.

We provide high quality physical rehabilitation. We are specialized in working agepeople and young athletes. Our main purpose is to reduce pain and organize anindividual rehabilitation process with a progressive exercise program and paintreatment program. We can also come to places wherepeople work to see the working conditions and give some ergonomic advices, or lectureabout muscle maintenance.

Fysakos is located in the centre of Lahti (vuorikatu 25).

Our physiotherapists are highly qualified professionals, who have certain goal to worktogether with the client. We don´t want to be above the client, but co-operating with himor her. Our job is to reduce the pain, but client´s job is to start taking responsibility ofoneself. We advise and motivate, but the client has the most important role in one´srehabilitation process. This attitude and ourspecial pain treatment skills assort us from our competitors. Most of our clients comefrom a recommendation of our other client.

Obstacles are patients themselves. If patients lose their hope or their job when they losetheir health, they might not come to rehabilitation at all. Though this therapy processusually doesn´t last long, people might think they can´t afford it. Or they think they can´tbe helped. Those are the main obstacles. Also we would like to have more suitablefacilities when the right time comes. When Istarted in Fysakos, it was a small clinic with huge economical problems. After 7 years,we have become bigger and we have a good reputation. Now we also have biggerclinic, but maybe later on we can have even more suitable facilities with all the rightequipment.
