PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Welcome to Week 4 of Term 4. As scary as it may sound our teachers have started to prepare for reports! LOCAL SCHOOLS LOCAL DECISIONS As part of our Local Schools Local Decisions involvement we were supposed to receive a new funding model this year. Unfortunately this will now not occur as the model is still being refined. I am sure you can understand the need to get this new way of funding schools absolutely spot on prior to sending it out into the real world. As a result we will continue our pilot transition for 2013, with the new model coming out in Term 4 of next year. For us, this will mean a continued focus on smaller classes and the employment of the highest quality teachers. With 75 students in Stage 1 next year this will be a real challenge but something that we will be striving to achieve. SPRING ROUND ROBIN The Spring Round Robin was a great day on Friday. All students reported having a great time. A huge thank you to Darren White and his Tocumwal Public School team for all of their efforts in organising and running this day. INCREASING STUDENT NUMBERS Our numbers continue to increase with two new families booked in to join us this term. We will be welcoming four new students into Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 5. It is a real credit to our staff, students and school community that they are coming to Finley Public School. With Kindergarten enrolments likely to exceed 30 students our school’s reputation is certainly one of which to be very proud. TALENT SHOW Your child may have come home talking about our talent show for the fete. We have more than 25 acts willing to have a go and this is awesome! Unfortunately they cannot all participate on the night of the fete. I will be having a look at the acts this week to see if they are ready to perform. Next week we will give all of the acts that have been developed into a performance, the chance to perform in front of the school at lunchtime, as students eat their lunch. This will probably take two to three lunchtimes. From here we will select eight acts to perform on the night of the fete. This way everyone gets the opportunity to perform to an audience and learns a little more about what it takes to turn an act into something that an audience will want to sit down and watch. I will do my best to schedule the lunchtime acts and let students know in case some parents would like the opportunity to pop down at lunchtime and see their child in action. It takes a lot of courage to stand up in front of an audience and perform. Anyone who is willing to have a go should be very proud of their efforts. h FINLEY PUBLIC SCHOOL PO Box 265 21-39 Coree Street FINLEY NSW 2713 Telephone: (03) 5883 1135 Fax: (03) 5883 2397 Email: [email protected] Website: www.finley-p.schools.nsw.edu.au 29 October, 2012 Week 4, Term 4 DIARY DATES **NOVEMBER** Friday 2 *11.30-3.00 Jumpstart *4-3T Assembly Friday 9 *11.30-3.00 Jumpstart *12.15am Remembrance Day ceremony *2-1T and 6-5E Assembly *FPS Twilight Fete Tuesday 13 *School Photos Friday 16 *11.30-3.00 Jumpstart *2-1A Assembly Friday 23 *11.30-3.00 Jumpstart *6-5B Assembly **DECEMBER** Tuesday 11 *Presentation Day

PRINCIPAL’S REPORTWelcome to Week 4 of Term 4.

As scary as it may sound our teachers

have started to prepare for reports!

LOCAL SCHOOLS LOCAL DECISIONS

As part of our Local Schools Local

Decisions involvement we were supposed

to receive a new funding model this year.

Unfortunately this will now not occur as

the model is still being refined. I am sure

you can understand the need to get this

new way of funding schools absolutely

spot on prior to sending it out into the

real world. As a result we will continue our

pilot transition for 2013, with the new

model coming out in Term 4 of next year.

For us, this will mean a continued focus on

smaller classes and the employment of the

highest quality teachers. With 75

students in Stage 1 next year this will be

a real challenge but something that we will

be striving to achieve.

SPRING ROUND ROBIN

The Spring Round Robin was a great day

on Friday. All students reported having a

great time. A huge thank you to Darren

White and his Tocumwal Public School

team for all of their efforts in organising

and running this day.

INCREASING STUDENT NUMBERS

Our numbers continue to increase with

two new families booked in to join us this

term. We will be welcoming four new

students into Kindergarten, Year 3 and

Year 5. It is a real credit to our staff,

students and school community that they

are coming to Finley Public School. With

Kindergarten enrolments likely to exceed

30 students our school’s reputation is

certainly one of which to be very proud.

TALENT SHOW

Your child may have come home talking

about our talent show for the fete. We

have more than 25 acts willing to have a

go and this is awesome! Unfortunately

they cannot all participate on the night of

the fete. I will be having a look at the

acts this week to see if they are ready to

perform. Next week we will give all of the

acts that have been developed into a

performance, the chance to perform in

front of the school at lunchtime, as

students eat their lunch. This will

probably take two to three lunchtimes.

From here we will select eight acts to

perform on the night of the fete. This

way everyone gets the opportunity to

perform to an audience and learns a little

more about what it takes to turn an act

into something that an audience will want

to sit down and watch. I will do my best to

schedule the lunchtime acts and let

students know in case some parents would

like the opportunity to pop down at

lunchtime and see their child in action. It

takes a lot of courage to stand up in front

of an audience and perform. Anyone who

is willing to have a go should be very proud

of their efforts.

CAPTAIN’S SPEECHES

Captain’s speeches will be held during Week 5. Our

Year 5 students have been aware of this for some

time now. All students are expected to prepare and

practise a speech. The speech can be as long or as

short as the student feels comfortable with. Some

students may be really worried about the speech. If

this is the case, then please let me or their teacher

know as soon as possible so that we can fully support

them through the process. Stage 3 will be breaking

into Year 5 and Year 6 groups this Friday to make

sure that all students are ready to go. Our speeches

are conducted each morning at assembly and I will

endeavour to send home a time table as I know that

many parents enjoy the opportunity to watch their

child participate in this very important activity.

After the speeches have been completed, all students

and staff will vote on who they think will make a great

leader for our school in 2013. Judging by our past

captains and prefects, the kids do a pretty good job.

There are only six official positions, so naturally some

students will miss out on ‘the badge’. We cater for

this, throughout the year, by giving all Year 6

students the opportunity to lead in various instances

and by talking to each of them explicitly about being a

leader, first and foremost, through their actions.

Having said this, to be elected School Captain or

Prefect is something to which the vast majority of

our Year 5 students aspire. The positions do carry

certain expectations and are, of course, a real honour

to hold. I look forward to hearing from our Year 5

students next week.

I will be away on Thursday so it will be a super busy

week as we organise speeches and talent show acts.

Have a great week.
