COMBUSTIBLE GAS DETECTORThe CGD8800X is a general purpose combustible hydrocarbons detector that may be used for detecting most combustible gas or vapors at suspected arson and fire scenes. This lightweight and fully portable instrument will locate quickly minute concentrations of combustible hydrocarbons and the presence of hazardous vapors at suspect arson scenes to levels as low as five PPM (parts per million).An invaluable tool for many unforeseeable and unexpected situations and no investigative department is fully equipped without one. The CGD8800X Combustible Gas Detector indicates the strength of the vapor source on an LED-based bar graph display. It emits a clicking signal (similar to a Geiger counter), whose frequency increases as the concentration of the combustible gas increases. The sensing head is located at the end of a 15“ gooseneck-style extension arm that easily folds into the case for efficient storage and transport. It is coated with a permanent, quick-setting acrylic adhesive that defies removal from most surfaces. To increase the tape’s ability to tear, it is perforated with 3/16” slits at 1/4” intervals. Dual-serrated tape edges add redundancy to the integrity. The tape’s top surface is printed in translucent red or blue ink, then overprinted with opaque black “EVIDENCE”. The roll is 1 1/2” wide, 0.001” thick, on a 3” core and is backed with 50 lb. stock Kraft liner.Attempts to remove SIRCHMARK™ evidence tape will cause the tape substrate to break and peel off in irregular strips. CHAR DEPTH GAUGEThe depth of charring of wood is one indicator as to how long the substance burned, how intense the fire was, and may indicate the possibility that accelerants were used when charring is exceptionally deep in isolated areas. The gauge permits rapid, accurate measurement throughout the fire scene and often eliminates having to cut out timbers unnecessarily. DEBRIS SIFTING SHOVELThis modified shovel features precision-machined sorting holes that isolate objects greater than 3/8” (1 cm) diameter, while allowing water run off. Sifting through ashes is important because an investigator may find evidence, such as furniture hardware—even when areas have been completely burned. In addition, the absence of some remains may lead to the motive. For these reasons, it is necessary to sift through debris to collect representative samples of solid materials such as wood, ashes, wiring, melted metal, or glass.

DEBRIS SIFTING SCREENSSift through large volumes of potential evidence while eliminating unimportant debris with our sifting screens. These screens presort physical evidence to size, allowing small, insignificant particles to remain at the scene. Made from heavy-duty 18-gauge cold-rolled steel with black wrinkle-paint finish, the screens feature a base screen with a single insert. Rotating the insert in 90° increments creates three opening sizes from 1/8” up to 1/4”. Two thumbscrews hold the insert in place and when the insert is removed the base screen with 3/8” openings may be used. Overall size of the base screen is 18” x 18” and the insert measures 17” x 17”.

AEROSOL DUST AND DIRT HARDENERThis efficient method for preparing footprints and tire tracks found in loose or sandy soil is packaged in aerosol form.Our Dust and Dirt Hardener features a quick-drying, clear acrylic formula that adds superior strength to impressions—lessening the chance of detail damage due to the weight of the casting material. Use it with plaster-of-paris, HARD-CORE, or Shake-N-Cast™ materials. One 15-ounce can of 638CA Dust and Dirt Hardener is enough to make up to 30 full-size adult shoe impression applications.

SNOW IMPRESSION WAXImpression evidence found in snow or ice presents a unique set of difficulties for recovery. Due to the fact that most gypsum-based casting materials generate heat during the curing process, it is necessary to provide an insulating medium. Spray Snow Impression Wax into the impression to prepare the surface for casting. This locks the impression detail to avoid melting when the casting medium is applied. It is supplied in an aerosol can.

STEP 1: Remove loose debris and place a casting frame around the impression.

STEP 2 : Apply several light coats of Dust and Dirt Hardener allowing 2-3 min. drying time between coats.

Apply 2 coats of Snow Impression Wax from 10”-12”. Then, spray 6 more coats from 6”. Allow 1-2 min. drying time between coats.

Prepare a sufficient amount of casting material to make the cast. Can be used with all casting materials.
