Local and Remote Annunciation

Up to 30 R-Series annunciators may be configured for each node on the EST3X network. Up to 30 R-Series LCD, LED annunciators and driver interface cards may be configured for eachnode on the EST3X network. No additional nodes are required for annunciation purposes. In addition, EST3X supports EST3 network annunciators, while GCI and GCIX driver interface cards provide cost-effective graphic annunciation solutions. And all annunciator inputs and outputs areeasily programmable through the rules and labels function of EST3X’s Software Definition Utility.

Power to Count On

EDWARDS’ patented Voltage Boost™ technology delivers a consistent 22.5 Vdc – even at low battery power. This means lighter gauge cable can be used for equivalent distances compared with conventional power supplies, or longer wire runs on the same gauge cable. Either way, this breakthrough technology saves time and equipment costs, making EST3X not only a high-performance solution — but a cost-effective one as well.

EST3X’s four on-board Notification Appliance Circuits are fully synchronized to UL 1971 standards — without the need for external modules or other electronics. It’s ample 10-amp power supply is finely tuned to get the most out of EDWARDS’ widely-acclaimed low profile Genesis notificationappliances.

3-SSDC1 Single Signature Driver Controller Module with one 3-SDC13-SDDC1 Dual Signature Driver Controller Module with two 3-SDC13-SDC1 Signature Device Card

Signature Driver Controller ModulesThe 3-SSDC1 and 3-SDDC1 Signature Driver Controller modules provide an intelligent interface between the SFS1-CPU module and Signature Series devices. Each module contains its own microprocessor used to coordinate, process and interpret information received from and sent to Signature devices. Power and communications is received directly from the control panel rail assembly. The 3-SSDC1 Single Signature Driver Controller module supports one Signature Data circuit, while the 3-SDDC1 Signature Dual Driver Controller module supports two Signature circuits. Both modules occupy one rail space in the fire alarm control cabinet and provide removable field wiring terminals to aid installation.

Innovative design gives the 3-SSDC1/3-SDDC1 and Signature devices truly “distributed intelligence”. Signature detectors and modules have their own on-board microprocessor communicating with the loop controller in a fully digital communication format. This increases the accuracy of the information coming to and from the loop controller by reducing the effects of capacitance and noise. With decentralized intelligence much of the decision making moves from the loop controller to the devices. Advanced fire detection algorithms processed within the Signature devices effectively end unwanted alarms. Environmental compensation and multiple sensing element decision making operations are resident in the devices. Intelligent devices allow the Signature Controllers to execute communication and system functions with greater speed and low baud rates, increasing the accuracy of information transmitted between the loop controller and devices.

To enhance survivability of the system the 3-SSDC1/3-SDDC1 supports a standalone mode for Signature devices. Two catastrophic failure modes are supported. If the SFS1-CPU fails, the loop controller will continue to poll its devices. If an alarm is detected it will be sent on the local rail communication bus and received by other local rail modules. A common alarm condition throughout the panel will result. If the local rail module (3-SSDC1/3-SDDC1) fails, and a device (smoke or module) detects an alarm, specialized circuitry will make the node aware of the alarm condition. SFS1-CPU will communicate the alarm condition to the rest of the network. Having multiple redundant modes is paramount in a life safety system.

3-IDC8/4 Initiating Device Circuit Module

Initiating Device Circuit (Hardwired) Module The 3-IDC8/4 is ideal for retrofit projects where existing wiring, smokedetectors and signals may not need replacing.

Flexibility built right into the IDC module allows connection of normally open contact devices, and traditional 2-wire smoke detectors.

The 3-IDC8/4 also configures for use with N.O. contacts and supports supervised supervisory and monitor circuits with latching or non-latching operations. When the monitor operation is used with the non-latching function, the circuit serves as a supervised event follower. This efficiently covers critical fan and damper operations. Circuits can annunciate on the 3-LCD, control display modules, or at any other display device on the network.

All circuits may be programmed for non-verified or verified smoke operation. Ranges include open circuit, shorted condition, and high and low impedance (relative to the main impedance setting). This allows the use of various detectors of similar impedance, as well as4-state European alarm circuit operation.

Four of the eight 3-IDC8/4 circuits are convertible to Class B notification appliance circuits. The circuits employ traditional reversing polarity operation for polarized bells, horns, and strobes. Notification appliance circuits are arranged in pairs. Each pair distributes 3.5Amps at 24 Vdc from the local rail or a single riser. Riser sources supported include 24 V @ 3.5 A, which can be pulsed (temporal pattern) for audible signals, or up to 70 Vrms @ 100W audio source for speakers.

AU-3X-PMI Paging Microphone Interface with ASE bracket

Network AudioConfiguring EST3X audio is a matter of selecting components for installation in standard fire alarm cabinet assemblies. EST3X uses zoned amplifiers. This reduces wire runs and space needs at a central location. Audio control equipment and zoned amplifiers use the same system power supplies as fire alarm components. All these components are supported by a common standby battery. Where multiple nodes make up the system, a single pair of wires carries eight channels of digital audio between nodes.

3X-PMI Paging Microphone InterfaceThe 3X-PMI Paging Microphone Interface provides controls for emergency voice/alarm communications. It consists of an audio mounting bracket, EAEC Emergency Audio Evacuation Controller card, audio enclosure, and paging microphone.

EST3X audio amplifiers decode and re-expand the eight multiplexed audio signals on the network audio riser. Under command of the network, one of the available eight signals is selected to be distributed over the speaker circuit. Command and control signals for the amplifier are sent and received via the network data riser in response to programming.

Amplifiers are available in 20 or 40 watt versions, with supervised, power limited 25 Vrms or 70Vrms outputs. The amplifier output is wired to a single speaker zone. Each amplifier has a 1 KHz temporal tone generator used as evacuation signal in the event of a fault with the network audio circuit. In the event of an on-line amplifier failure, a standby amplifier may be configured for automatic replacement of any on-line amplifier configuration. 20 and 40 watt amplifiers also provide an independently controlled supervised, power limited 24 Vdc notification appliance circuit rated at 3.5 amps. All field wiring connections are made via plug-in connectors.

A powerful System Definition Utility program helps define system operations in a fraction of the time required by previous methods. Virtually all EST3 operating features are software controlled. This gives EST3 great site flexibility and ensures operational changes and upgrades will be possible years after the initial installation.

Highly Flexible ApplicationsEST3 is a superbly adaptable life safety system, lending itself to a range of building applications. Cabinets are available with room for system batteries up to 65 Amp hours. Each supply will support up to 7 Amp load. With four supplies, 28 Amps of current is available

Fully-listed User InterfacesThe user interface layer is made up of a Liquid Crystal Display module and a system of generic modules designed to maximize design flexibility for custom systems.

In addition to front panel control and annunciation, EST’s powerful FireWorks colour graphics package provides desktop control and messaging in the familiar Windows environment. Fireworks’ unique four-quadrant display gives the user access to all EST3 functions including fire alarm, emergency warning, AS1668 fan control and gas suppression/deluge control – in one simple and intuitive interface. In fact, EST3 panels and FireWorks are the only such systems with the ability to monitor up to 99 different EST3 sites across the globe from the one central point.

Powerful NetworkingEST3 operates on a multi priority peer-to-peer token ring network. The multi-priority token ring gives EST3 exceptional response. Response time for all functions, including fire, emergency warning, AS1668 fan control and gas suppression/deluge control, is less than three seconds across the network regardless of the total number of nodes. EST3 token ring network configuration also permits vast distances between nodes. The allowable distance between three nodes on 0.75mm2 (#18AWG) is 1,523m (5,000ft). With 64 nodes supported on a network, the total network length is in excess of 91,400m (300,000 ft). A single node supports up to 10 loop controllers with up to 250 devices per loop, depending on the loop protocol used. Any combination of the two protocols supported by EST3 is acceptable as long as it does not exceed 10 loops in total.

EST3 also makes field wiring easy with building wiring terminations that use removable terminal blocks on local rail modules. Panel design allows for the required separation of high voltage and power limited wiring.

8-channel Integrated AudioEST3 audio design provides the emergency user with a communication package that minimizes switch selections. This facilitates simple, accurate and fast evacuation control announcements. EST3 provides simple paging controls. Pressing All Call selects all paging zones for message delivery. Pressing Page To Evacuation automatically selects all areas in evacuation. Similarly, the user can Page To Alert. Zoned paging requires the user to simply select zone paging switches.Taking full advantage of digital technology, up to eight channels of audio sources can be sent over a single twisted pair of wires between nodes. Coupling the inherent reliability and performance of zoned amplifiers with EST3 simplified user interfaces makes voice alarm system design and operation both easy and dependable.

Typical EST3 Wiring with, Emergency Warning and Gas Control

Multiplex fire, security, and emergency warning controlWhether for fire alarm only, or for total life safety protection including emergency warning, AS1668 fan control and gas suppression/deluge control, the EST3 network is the most survivable system available. EST3 uses distributed database technology, designed to survive the rigors of fire and firefighting.

In loop (Class A) configurations a single break or short on the network wiring causes the system to isolate the fault. Network communication continues uninterrupted. If multiple faults occur, the network re-configures into multiple networks.

This means the system continues to respond to activations from every node that can transmit and receive network messages. Local responses always execute because the local database resides at each node. Exceptional survivability extends to every EST3 function, including emergency warning, fan control and gas suppression/deluge control. These devices reside on the network alongside fire alarm components. They share wiring, power sources and the inherent stability of a fire alarm network engineered to meet standards far beyond those of ordinary Fire systems.

Central Processor Unit

Network Communication Card

RS-232 Communication Card

The 3-CPU3 is the heart of the EST3 network node. As a single node standalone system, a single 3-CPU3 controls up to 19 local rail modules. For larger systems, up to 64 nodes interconnect on a peer-to-peer multi-priority token ring protocol network. The 3-CPU3 controls all local panel responses to automatic, user initiated, or network reported events. As a network node, it is an equal among peers: there is no master on the network. Multi-priority token ring means that a node with a new alarm has priority on the network. This gives exceptional response times over the network — less than three seconds.

Each 3-CPU3 provides connectors for mounting network and RS-232. Removable terminal blocks on the 3-CPU3 support connection of network and audio data wiring. On-board common relays also terminate at the 3-CPU3 terminals. To aid in troubleshooting and service, status LEDs monitor local rail, network, RS232 and audio data communications.

The Network Communications card mounts to the back of the Central Processor Unit. The 3-RS485A card provides a loop (Class A) or (Class B) circuit for network communications signals and a loop (Class A or Class B) for digitized audio signals. Network messages received by the Network Communications card are re-transmitted to the next network node.

The 3-RS232 Communication Card mounts to the back of the 3-CPU3. The 3-RS232 has two optically-isolated RS-232 ports. The ports support connection of a printer and/or an external command centre.

Power Supplies

EST3 power supplies use a unique paralleling arrangement that ensures optimization of each supply’s full capacity. Each power supply supports up to a 7 amp load. With four supplies, 28 Amps of current is available per cabinet as is battery charging capacity of up to 260 Amp-Hours.

Main Panel Power SuppliesEST3 Power supplies consist of two assemblies, a high efficiency switch mode power supply card and a power supply monitor module. Up to four power supplies may be combined in a single enclosure to provide up to 28 amps of available current. Battery backup is provided using from one to four sets of batteries, depending on standby power requirements to support up to 260 AH batteries.

The power supply comes in two styles: a primary supply and a booster supply. Each power supply produces 7 amps of filtered and regulated 24 VDC. The primary power supply provides the system with battery charging and voltage regulation. The booster supplies work in concert with the primary supply and are available with or without battery charging capability. Software configuration configures the battery changing circuits for either 10-24 AH batteries or 30 – 65 AH batteries and controls the high/low charge rate.

EST3 power supplies individually monitor batteries for load deficiencies, short circuits, and insufficient voltage levels and report trouble back to the 3-CPU3. The LCD displays any faults and the power supply’s address, a specific fault code, and a text message describing the specific fault.

Each pair distributes 3.5 Amps at 24 Vdc from the local rail or a single riser. Riser sources supported include 24 V @ 3.5 A, which can be pulsed (temporal pattern) for audible signals, or up to 70 Vrms @ 100W audio source for speakers.

Control, Display & Annunciation

Liquid Crystal Display ModuleThe LCD mounts to the 3-CPU3. The LCD module is optional but there must be at least one LCD per system. The LCD uses a backlit high-contrast, supertwist, graphical display. Eight lines of 21 characters provide the room needed to convey information in a meaningful way. The LCD always displays the last highest priority event even when the user is viewing other message queues.

Further message flexibility is provided with EST3’s message routing ability. Messages from a node can display at every node on the network, or messages can route to specific nodes only. Routing can be initiated at a specific time/shift change. Depending on the marketplace, the function and type of LCD of certain controls and indications change. The EST3 system configures for different market and standards operations. The mode of operation is selected through the System Definition Utility program (SDU).

The 3-LCD-AU series is the primary user interface in the EST3 Life Safety System and is designed to meet AS4428.1 standards for Fire Fighter’s Facility, to comply with Australian and New Zealand requirements, The 3-LCD (together with the 3-LKE LCD insert) is used in AS7240.2 installations, where Ziton Series loop drivers are connected on the same CIE. Security/Access Control Module

Keypad/Display

While the security and access control functions are primarily used overseas, the 3-SAC Control Module is used to connect the KPDISP keypads to the EST3 Life Safety system. They provide vital alarm information to areas like nurse stations and its small compact design makes it easy to install.

The 3-SAC Security/Access Control Module is a key component that blends the security and access control functions into the EST3 multiplex life safety system. The 3-SAC is the demarcation point between fire and security functions. For jurisdictions requiring independent wiring of fire and security devices, the 3-SAC offers two independent circuits. Where fire and security devices are permitted to be connected to the same circuit, both circuits can support fire and security functions. All security devices that connect to a 3-SAC are designed, tested and listed to strict fire alarm standards.

The EST3 network ensures that fire alarm events always receive the highest priority over routine signal processing. Power for the 3-SAC comes from the same highly-reliable power supply/battery combination used to power fire alarm components. Any Control Display module will mount in front of the 3-SAC, allowing great flexibility of the system user interface layout.

The KPDISP is a combination keypad and dot-matrix display designed for use with the EST3 fire alarm control systems. The unit features a large LCD display and telephone-style keypad housed in an attractive Cycoloy® case. A removable cover is provided to prevent accidental keypad activation and for protection against dirt.

The KPDISP transmits and receives information from/to the 3-SAC security access control module installed in the EST3 system. Communication between the KPDISP and the 3-SAC is supervised, providing unprecedented reliability. KPDISP data is stored in non-volatile memory. Power to the KPDISP is provided by the EST3, ensuring a reliable, supervised and backed-up power source.

Network Audio

Configuring EST3 audio is a matter of selecting components for installation in standard fire alarm cabinet assemblies. EST3 uses zoned amplifiers. This reduces wire runs and space needs at a central location. Audio control equipment and zoned amplifiers use the same system power supplies as fire alarm components. All these components are supported by a common standby battery. Where multiple nodes make up the system, a single pair of wires carries eight channels of digital audio between nodes.

Remote Microphones

Audio Amplifiers (Zoned)

The remote microphone panel is a supervised remote microphone, used with the 3-ASU Audio Source Unit’s remote microphone input. The front panel provides Local Page Active, Remote Page Active, and Trouble LED indicators as well as an integral VU (Volume Unit) meter to indicate page volume level. All panels use a 24 Vdc power source and all wiring is supervised. One form C trouble contact is provided.

EST3 audio amplifiers decode and re-expand the eight multiplexed audio signals on the network audio riser. Under command of the network, one of the available eight signals is selected to be distributed over the speaker circuit. Command and control signals for the amplifier are sent and received via the network data riser in response to programming. Amplifiers are available in 20, 40 or 95 watt versions, with supervised, power limited 70Vrms outputs.

FireWorks™

EST3 to BMS Communications Bridge

FireWorks is a family of software and hardware options designed to work in concert with EST life safety and property protection systems. FireWorks provides a simple user interface, taking what could be an overwhelmingly large amount of information and presenting it in an easy-to-understand format.

FireWorks does this by dividing major system functions into easy-to-manage quadrants. These quadrants make the system very intuitive to use because information is presented logically. To further enhance usability, FireWorks is event driven. This greatly increases the user’s ability to deal with system events by eliminating the confusion sometimes experienced when systems present all information at once. FireWorks automatically prioritizes the events for the user in an Event Quadrant. Here the highest priority event is displayed first, and the lowest priority event is displayed last. This allows the user to quickly determine which events warrant the most immediate attention. Each of the other three quadrants provides one specific piece of information that relates to the event highlighted in the Event Quadrant. Related information may include event action information (specific tasks the user may need to perform in response to the event), or information about the area where the event has taken place (any hazardous materials present in the area, etc.). Still images, video, audio messages and graphical maps may also be presented to aid in the understanding of an event and how it should be managed.

The FSB-PC Communication Bridge is an ancillary device that provides protocol translation between EST3 serial data and the serial or Ethernet input of an external device controller. The FSB-PC converts the EST3 External Communications Protocol (ECP) to any one of several supported protocols including Modbus RTU, BACnet MSTP and Metasys N2. It operates over RS-232 or RS-485 serial communications or Ethernet (10/100 Base-T). Signal flow is typically one way from the EST3 network to the building automation system.

INTELLIGENT INITIATING DEVICES

Signature Series® Multisensor Detection

Signature Series intelligent detection is an entire family of fire alarm detectors as well as mounting bases, multiple-function input and output modules, and user-friendly maintenance and service tools. Whenused with EST3 and EST3X control panels, Signature Series devices represent the most advanced detection technology available today.

At the heart of each Signature Series device is an onboard microprocessor that analyses these signals and decides whether or not to input an alarm. The power of this approach, known as distributed intelligence, provides four important benefits: self-diagnostics and history logging; automatic device mapping; stand-alone operation; and fast, stable communication.

Self-diagnostics and History LogSignature Series devices constantly run selfchecks to provide important maintenance information. The results of these checks are automatically updated and permanently stored in the device’s non-volatile memory. This information is accessible for review using the System Definition Utility and/or the SIGA-PRO Signature Program/Service Tool.

The information stored in device memory includes:• device serial number, address, and type;• date of manufacture, hours of operation, and last

maintenance date;• number of recorded alarms and troubles; and,• up to 32 possible trouble codes which may be used

to specifically diagnose faults.

Automatic Device Mapping The Signature Loop Controller learns where each device’s serial number is installed relative to other devices on the circuit. The controller keeps a map of all Signature Series devices connected to it. The System Definition Utility program also uses this mapping feature. With interactive menus and graphic support, the wired circuits between each devicecan be examined. Layout or As-Built drawing information showing branch wiring (T-taps), device types and their addresses are stored on disk. This takes much of the mystery out of the installation and makes the preparation of As-Built drawings fast and very efficient.

Device mapping allows the Signature Loop Controller to discover:• unexpected additional device addresses;• missing device addresses; and,• changes to the wiring in the circuit.

Most Signature modules use a personality code selected by the installer to determine their actual function. Personality codes are downloaded from the controller during system configuration and are indicated during device mapping.

Fast Stable Communication Built-in intelligence means less information needs to be sent between the device and the Signature Loop Controller. Other than routine supervisory polling responses, Signature devices only need to communicate with the controller when they have something new to report. This provides very fast control panel response and allows a lower baud rate (speed) to be used for communication on the circuit. The lower baud rate offers several advantages including:

• less sensitivity to circuit wire characteristics;• less sensitivity to noise glitches on the cable;• less emitted noise from the analogue wiring; • twisted or shielded wiring is not required.

Testing & Maintenance Automatic self-diagnosis identifies when a Signature device is defective and issues a trouble message. The user-friendly maintenance program shows the current state of each device and other pertinent information. Single devices may be turned off temporarily, directly from the control panel.

True multisensor technology means that a single device can perform optimally under a wider range of conditions than any singlesensor detector.

EST’s Signature series products are intelligent devices. Intelligent devices have drastically lower communications requirements than other analogue sensor type devices. Because of the low Signature communications rate there are no special wiring requirements for Signature circuits. This permits Signature devices to use existing wiring, as long as the wiring is in good shape, free of electrical noise, When existing wiring is used, the Signature devices will properly map the circuit, function as designed, and provide overall network response time of less than three seconds. For new installations, twisted-pair wiring is all that is recommended.

Signature Series input/output modules are extremely flexible and powerful devices that gather analogue information from the slave devices connected to them and convert this data into digital signals. They are available in models that mount in standard one- or two-gang electrical boxes, as well as versions that plug into UIO motherboards.

The actual function of each module is determined by its installer-selected personality code. This is downloaded to the module from the Signature Loop Controller during system configuration. Because they are intelligent devices, all decisions are made at the module. This allows lower communication speed but very fast control panel response time and less sensitivity to line noise and loop wiring properties. As a result, twisted or shielded wire is not required.

Signature Series I/O modules feature automatic device mapping and electronic addressing. Details about the module are permanently stored in its non-volatile memory and the module automatically updates historic information for a wide range of reports. All Signature Series I/O modules feature diagnostic LEDs and can be installed in areas where ambient temperatures reach as high as 49° C (120° F).

Mounting and installation optionsSignature Series input/output modules are available in models that feature two mounting options: standard mount and plug-in.

Standard mount models are installed to North American two-gang or one-gang electrical boxes, making them ideal for locations where only one module is required. Separate I/O and data loop connections are made to each module.

Plug-in UIO modules mount to UIO motherboards. Two and six-module UIO motherboards are available, making them ideal for installations where more than one module is required. Motherboards can accommodate individual risers for each on-board module, or shared risers in any combination with their UIO modules. All wiring connections are made to terminal blocks on the motherboard. UIO assemblies may be mounted in either EST cabinets, or standard electrical enclosures.

Digital Message Module

Universal (Class A/B) Module

The SIGA-MDM Digital Message Module provides custom pre-recorded voice messaging. Two standard factory prerecorded messages are included. Each module can store two 30 second messages in its non-volatile EEPROM memory. A microphone/line-level audio input stereo jack and output stereo jack, as well as record and playback switches are conveniently located on top of the module. Programming in the Signature Data Controller provides all control instructions; extra wiring for monitoring or controlling circuits is not required. Up to 47 modules can be cascaded together. The SIGA-MDM is available as a plug-in module only.

The Universal Class A/B Module is used to connect initiating, appliance, or two-wiresmoke circuits in Loop (Class A or Class B) configuration. Control Relay Module

Polarity Reversal Relay Module

Riser Monitor Module

The Control Relay Module provides a Form C dry relay contact to control external appliances such as door closers, fans, dampers etc. This device does not provide supervision of the state of the relay contact. Instead, the on-board microprocessor ensures that the relay is in the proper ON/OFF state. Upon command from the loop controller, the relay activates the normally open or normally-closed contact. This module supports only one personality: but it has 9 different device types that are user configurable.

Upon commande from the Signature loop controller, the Polarity Reversal Relay Module reverses the polarity of its 24 Vdc output, thus activating all Sounder Bases on the data loop. This module supports only one personality: no user configuration is required.

The SIGA-RM1 Riser Monitor Module is an intelligent device that monitors the integrityof 24 Vdc, 25 Vac, and 70 Vac circuits, as well as telephone riser signals. Upon the loss of a signal, the Riser Monitor Module causes the fire alarm control panel to indicate an alert status. Personality codes downloaded to the Riser Monitor Module during system configuration determine its function.

Synchronisation Output Module

Input/Output Module

Isolator Module

The Synchronization Output Module is an intelligent device that connects a supervised output circuit to a 24 Vdc riser. The output wiring is monitored for open circuits and short circuits. A short circuit will cause the fire alarm control panel to inhibit the activation of the audible/visual signal circuit so the riser is not connected to the wiring fault. Upon command from the Signature loop controller, the Auto-Sync Output Module connects the output circuit to the riser input. The output circuit operates polarized audible and visual appliances that support Genesis synchronisation.

The Input/Output Module is an intelligent device that provides the followingmodes of operation:• Output with monitor input• Input/programmable output• Input/direct output

The SIGA-IM Isolator Module is an intelligent device that allows part of the Signature data loop to continue operating in the event of a short circuit. The module can be wired into a Class A data loop at any point. If a fault occurs, the isolator cuts power to all devices beyond the isolator on the loop. Once activated, the line fault isolator continuously checks the faulted side of the loop to determine if the short still exists. When the fault is cleared, the module automatically restores the entire data loop to its normal condition.

Please note that AS1670 requires two-staged alarm activation and therefore recommend a hinge cover installed with every manual call point.

Constructed of sturdy 16-gauge steel, the SIGA-DG Smoke Detector Guard is designed to protect SIGA-IPHSI and SIGA-PSI smoke detectors from damage or tampering. The advanced computer-designed louver system allows smoke detectors to be installed at their listed spacing and has no effect on operating sensitivity.

The SIGA-DMP Detector Mounting Plate is a 178mm (7 inch) square mounting plate. The Signature Series SIGA-DMP Duct Detector Mounting Plate (DMP) is used to mount a smoke detector inside an air duct. The DMP provides screws for mounting the detector base and includes a rubber gasket which forms an airtight seal between the mounting plate and the duct.

ArgoniteTM Suppression SystemThe Kidde Argonite fire suppression system uses a blend of inert gases that offers effective fire protection with zero environmental impact.

Argonite is a simple blend of 50% Argon gas and 50% Nitrogen gas with a density similar to that of air. Both Argon and Nitrogen are clean, naturally occurring gases that are readily available throughout the world. The system has no direct global warming or ozone depletion potential. Argonite requires minimal post-fire cleanup and will not decompose or produce any by-products when exposed to a flame from a fire situation. The Kidde Argonite system is an engineered system for total flooding of an enclosed space. It extinguishes a fire by means of reducing the oxygen content within a room to the point at which flame can no longer be sustained, but without compromising the safety of individuals present. Argonite is safe and effective for use on many applications. It is well suited for leaky enclosures such as flight simulators, substations, and control rooms and for application with multiple hazards.

All of our ‘Clean Agent’ Inert Gas Range contains gasses that already exist within the atmosphere that we breathe, which mainly includes Argon and Nitrogen. The extinguishing method of Inert Gas Suppression Systems is to reduce the normal atmospheric oxygen level of 20.9% down to a level where combustion can no longer be sustained, which for most common fires is below 15%.

The Kidde Inert Gas range does not emit any toxic decomposition products and does not contain any ozone depleting substances. It also has no global warming potential.

The Inert Gas range is approved as a ‘Total Flood’ system. This requires the enclosure to be adequately sealed to achieve and hold, at design concentration, the fire suppression agent for at least 10 minutes after the fire has been suppressed/extinguished. This is to ensure no re-ignition before fire fighters are in attendance.

The Kidde Inert Gas Range of Fire Suppression Systems includes our globally recognised Argonite™ (IG55 – 50% Nitrogen/50% Argon); the other agents are:– IG541 (52% Nitrogen, 40% Argon & 8% CO₂)

Typical applications

• Electrical hazards• Telecommunications

facilities• Museums and other

high-value assets

All of the Kidde Inert Gas Range of Fire Suppression Systems are approved for use within normally occupied areas using concentrations up to the NOAEL (No Observed Adverse Effects Level) 43% with NO restrictions, other than to provide a time delay device to allow personnel to evacuate prior to agent discharge.

A proven, effective and reliable clean agent fire suppression option.ECS™ with FM200 or NOVEC1230 Clean Agent Fire Suppression SystemsECS Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems are the preferred fire suppression solution for facilities that cannot afford the downtime associated with a fire or typical water-based fire suppression systems. ECS Clean Agent systems extinguish a fire by removing the heat from a fire and chemically breakdown the fire. The suppression agents do not harm the equipment or personnel in the protected room or cause a mess to clean up afterwards. An ECS system can be filled with either FM200 or NOVEC1230 with each having similar but distinct properties and advantages. NOVEC1230 is a better choice for the environment. FM200, with it’s higher vapour pressure, can atomise easier allowing more flexibility in piperuns and cylinder location. Clean Agents offer rapid fire extinguishment, suppressing fires within seconds of the agent being discharged into the protected area. The agents are usually ventilated out of the space and do not leave behind a residue to be cleaned up, allowing your facility to get back to work immediately.

Why Choose a Kidde ECS Clean Agent System?

Rapid-Response. In seconds, not minutes, the ECS System discharges the suppression agent into the hazard area providing the fastest fire protection available. This results in less damage, fewer repair costs and reduced downtime when combined with an appropriate detection method.

Damage-Free. Removed from the hazard area by ventilation, ECS Clean Agents allow a virtually immediate return to “business as usual” without the interruption of a costly clean-up and the expense of damage to assets from residue.

People-Safe. ECS Clean Agents are non-toxic, when used in compliance with AS ISO 14520. ECS Clean Agents do not impair breathing or obscure vision in an emergency situation, providing an added measure of safety for personnel.

ECS Clean Agents are non-toxic when used for Class A and Higher Hazard Class A fires. They do not impair breathing or obscure vision in an emergency situation, providing an added measure of safety for personnel.

Features• Reduces risk of downtime and helps maintain

business continuity in the event of a fire.• Clean, leave behind no residue.• Safe for discharge into occupied spaces.• Cost effective engineered system, providing

The system for long distances and complex piping networks

Extra Nitrogen Gives You More Coverage While Reducing Installation CostsWhat do you get when you combine 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid stored at 360 PSI with Nitrogen at 1,800 PSI? The Kidde Clean Agent ADS System with Novec 1230 Fluid. This results in the best coverage, highest nozzle, smallest diameter pipe and longest pipe runs.

Centrally-Located Cylinder BanksFinding the proper storage area for your clean agent cylinders near your protected space can be problematic. With the Kidde ADS system, the cylinders can be stored more than 60 metres from the protected space. This gives you the flexibility to protect multiple hazards from a single cylinder bank location. Piping runs can be reduced by adding directional valves at strategic locations.

Smallest Pipe DiameterIf space is not a restriction, placement in or near the hazard area allows the smallest possible pipe diameter, thereby lowering your piping costs.

Flexibility in designThese characteristics allow the Kidde ADS System with Novec 1230 Fluid to be a more flexible in the design (placement of nozzles and cylinders and flexiblity in the pipe runs).

Flammable materials and vapors present a significant riskof fire for many industrial processes and environments. The Kidde High Pressure (HP) Carbon Dioxide SuppressionSystem was designed to provide complete fire protectionfor a wide range of challenging applications from printingpresses and generator enclosures to dip tanks and commercial fryers.

Kidde® HP CO2 Suppression System

Why choose a Kidde HP CO2 system?

Superior Suppression.Carbon dioxide is a colorless, odorless, electrically-nonconductive gas whose density is approximately 50% greater than air. A Kidde HP CO2 System suppresses fire by providing a blanket of heavy gas that absorbs heat from the fire and reduces the oxygen content of the atmosphere to a point where combustion becomes impossible.

Damage-Free.A naturally-occurring atmospheric element, carbon dioxide dissipates into the air allowing an almost immediate return to “business as usual” without the interruption of a costly clean-up and the expense of damage to assets from suppressant residue. This results in fewer repair costs and reduced downtime.

Design Versatility.Because carbon dioxide is an ideal suppressant for a wide variety of industrial applications, Kidde offers three system configurations to efficiently protect different hazard types: Total Flooding, ideal for enclosed hazard areas, Local Application, used to protect a specified hazard area in an open floor plan, or a Local Hose Line, cost effective protection for fighting smaller fires throughout a hazard.

The Kidde HP CO2 is ideal for industrial processes where flammable materials and vapors present a potential hazard. For this reason, it is essential to have sufficient fire protection on site. The Kidde HP CO2 System, designed specifically for the hazard and operated automatically, assures immediate detection and rapid suppression.

• Damage-Free Fire Suppression Reduces Loss• Design Versatility with Three System Configurations:

• Total Flooding• Local Application• Local Hose Line

• Rapid Response—Discharges in Seconds• Fights Surface or Deep-Seated Fires

Types of Kidde Gaseous Suppression (Clean Agent) SystemsThere are two distinct types of Gaseous Suppression systems available:

1. Total Flood 2. Local Application

The vast majority of systems installed are Total Flood systems and all Kidde Gas Suppression Systems are approved for Total Flood applications. Kidde Carbon Dioxide Systems however, are approved for both Total Flood and Local Applications

An example of a total Flood System

Local ApplicationKidde High Pressure Carbon Dioxide only

Local application systems differ from total flooding in that the nozzles are arranged to discharge directly onto the fire. Local application is practical in those situations where the protected equipment can be isolated from other combustibles so that fire will not spread beyond the area protected, and where the entire hazard can be protected. One of the principal uses of local-application systems is to protect open tanks containing flammable liquids, but this technique can be generalized to protect three-dimensional hazards such as paint spray booths and printing presses. Suppression by local application is transitory, and will not be effective unless suppression occurs quickly and all potential re-ignition sources are eliminated.

An example of a Local Application Co2 System

Total FloodingAll Kidde Gaseous Suppression Systems including CO2

In a total flooding system, a predetermined amount of agent is discharged through fixed piping and nozzles into an enclosed space or enclosure around the hazard. Total flooding is applicable when the hazard is totally enclosed and when all openings surrounding the hazard can be closed automatically prior to or at the start of system discharge.

The agent extinguishing concentration must be main-tained for a sufficient period of time, generally a mini-mum of ten minutes.

For safety professionals who need effective and economical special hazard fire protection, Stat-X aerosol technology can deliver savings in equipment and lifecycle costs compared totraditional systems. This is due to lower initial expense plus minimal ongoing service costs.

Stat-X aerosol technology is different:

• NO distribution piping, manifold, or nozzles• NO floor space requirement or floor loading

for weight• NO special handling for compressed gas

cylinders including no Extinguishing Agent Handling License requirements

• NO venting or ceiling tile clips for discharge forces

• NO solenoid actuators, control heads, or hoses

• NO water drains or pipe freeze protection• NO system pressurisation

How it WorksStat-X devices are termed condensed aerosol agent generators because they generate an ultra-fine suspension of highly ionized potassium fire-fighting particles upon actuation.

The key elements in the generation process are:• Device is sealed and stable until actuated• Actuator at top energizes proprietary compound, creating aerosol

agent by exothermic oxidation• Build-up of ultra-fine particles and nitrogen gas breaks membrane

seal and exits through ports• Discharge fills protected area with a fine particle suspension of

Stat-X agent without “super-pressurizing” space• Potassium ions combine with free-radicals, inhibiting the fire chain

reaction• Agent particles also absorb heat from the fire and form inert gases

upon decomposition• Minute Stat-X agent particles (≤2 μm) remain in suspension

afterwards, helping check re-ignition• Post-fire area is easily vented and cleaned, with no harmful

byproducts generated

The superior effectiveness of condensed aerosols is due to a unique set of characteristics unmatched by other special hazard agents. This is why it is by far the most efficient fire suppression agent by weight.

The Risk: Fires in Mines and Mining Vehicles Life-threatening and dangerous fires occur frequently in the round-the-clock, demanding and gritty mining environments. Protecting surface vehicles, mobile equipment, and electrical components from fire is made even more critical due to the presence of large quantities of flammable diesel fuel, hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils. Hot exhausts and turbo chargers often combined with electrical hazards provide the necessary ingredients for a fire to erupt, causing extensive damage to equipment, loss ofproduction, and potential injury or death.

Mining and Tunnel Fire Protection

Light Vehicle Panel Detection & Control

Marine and Offshore Protection

The latest in compact vehicle detection & control panels. Specifically designed for small mobile equipment such as mining 4WDs, forklifts, site generators, and other small to medium applications protected by Stat-X® aerosol suppression systems.

Developed and manufactured by Kidde in Australia to meet the requirements of AS 5062, the Light Vehicle (LV) panels have a comprehensive feature set.

The panels are configurable so that each fire protection system can be tailored to meet individual customer, or equipment requirements.

The marine vessel (MV) panel (Part No. 001-927) has been designed to meet the requirements of the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) part C design and construction, section 4 fire safety. It has also been tested to the requirements of AS 5062, Fire protection of mobile and transportable equipment.

It incorporates visual and audible alarms and manual controls in a single, weatherproof enclosure and is suitable for use in commercial vessels built to comply with NSCV requirements, as well as, for use in private pleasure craft.

Highly Economical SolutionStat-X® generators are highly compact yet extremely effective fire suppression units. They are easy to install and require very little maintenance. The units do not have any pressurized cylinders and no pipework is required to distrib-ute the aerosol fire suppressant throughout the special hazard areas. This simple and robust design significantly saves maintenance costs. Further, the fire suppressant agent is non-corrosive, non-conductive and has little residue, so in the case of a fire and discharge, downtime, cleanup and repair costs are kept to a minimum, and containment of discharge is minimal. Stat-X units may also be replaced quickly and easily, further reducing costly delays in the event of a fire.

Angus Balanced Pressure Foam Proportioners (BPPs) are designed for use in fixed systems to introduce foam concentrate at a predetermined rate into the fire-water supply, over a varying range of foam solution demands.

BPP’s are used to maintain accurate foam induction over a wide range of flows and pressures as devices such as monitors and bund pourers are brought into use or disconnected during operations.

systems

• Choice of models

• Excellent corrosion resistance

SUPPRESSION | FOAM EQUIPMENT

There are five basic models with capacities from 220 litres/min. to 22,000 litres/min. and each unit is factory-calibrated to suit proportioning rates of 1%, 2%, 3% or 6% of a specified foam concentrate. A trimming screw facility on the foam inlet, permits adjustment during commissioning for exceptional operational accuracy.

The BPPs are wafer type, designed to be installed between ANSI 150 flanges and are manufactured from high grade corrosion resistant materials. They are simple to install, require no maintenance and their modular construction gives the engineer considerable flexibility in terms of selection of flow rate and positioning within the system.

To ensure accurate proportioning, the foam concentrate must be supplied to the unit at exactly the same pressure as that at the water inlet. This can be achieved by using the proportioner in conjunction with either a Balance Valve or a Bag Tank Module and it must be stated at the time of order which will be used.

For Balanced Pressure Foam Proportioners to perform accurately over a range of flows and pressures, the supply pressure of the foam concentrate entering the proportioner must be balanced with the pressure of water at the inlet. Angus Balance Valves provide a reliable and cost-effective means of achieving this.

Available in three sizes, dependent upon the required foam concentrate flow, they are compatible with the full range of Angus Balanced Pressure Foam Proportioners (BPPs).

A duplex pressure gauge, fitted as standard, gives visual confirmation that the unit is functioning correctly.

The balance valve curve to the right of the operating point will be the minimum size suitable for the application.

Protect your building withHI-FOG®, the superior watermist fire protection system

A water mist system is a fire protection system which uses very fine water sprays (i.e. water mist). The small water droplets allow the water mist to control, suppress or extinguish fires by:

• cooling both the flame and surrounding gases by evaporation• displacing oxygen by evaporation• attenuating radiant heat by the small droplets themselves

The effectiveness of a water mist system in fire suppression depends on its spray characteristics, which include the droplet size distribution, flux density and spray dynamics, with respect to the fire scenario, such as the shielding of the fuel, fire size and ventilation conditions.

The use of water mist fire suppression, when compared to the use of gaseous agents and traditional sprinkler systems, has revealed advantages such as:

• Immediate activation• High efficiency in the suppression of a wide variety of fires• Minimized water damage• Environmentally sound characteristics• No toxic problems

Marioff is renowned for pioneering high pressure water mist fire protection technology for use in passenger ferries. Today, HI-FOG® protects people, property and business continuity in a wide range of applications both on land and at sea.

Why High Pressure Water Mist?

The NFPA 750 defines three pressure regions for water mist-generating technologies: low, intermediate and high pressure systems. Marioff’s rigorous testing procedures, combined with the company’s unrivalled experience, have shown that high pressure water mist consistently delivers:

• Better penetration into the seat of the fire• Superior coverage of the protected volume• An improved cooling effect from better mixing of gases and high evaporation rate• Lower overall system weight• Less water consumption

The technology is incredibly versatile. It was initially designed to offer fire protection for large cruise ships but is now widely applied in industrial and building applications as well. It's the result of strong engineering know-how, deep understanding on the customer needs and thousands of full-scale fire tests.

A water mist system must prove that it does what it is supposed to do and through our growing number of customer references we prove the value of this extraordinary fire protection technology.

Fire protection is all about making people’s life safe and easy - even straight after the fire. The HI-FOG® water mist fire protection system makes this possible. It is a result of a great innovation: fire is suppressed with less water.

HI-FOG® Water Mist Fire Protection Benefits:

• Proven performance• Immediate activation• Quick control and suppression of fire • Efficient cooling preventing the fire from spreading• Low water usage, minimal damage and downtime• Safe for people and the environment• Small piping and water supply• Easy installation making HI-FOG® ideal for retrofit• Fully scalable to cover new protection needs

Fire Suppression with HI-FOG®: How Does It Work?

HI-FOG fights fires with significantly less water but just as effectively as traditional sprinkler systems. Using high pressure and specialized sprinkler and spray heads, the water is dispersed as small droplets. This remarkably increases the overall surface of the water.

The small droplets absorb heat more quickly and therefore cool the source of the fire and the surrounding area more rapidly, preventing the fire from spreading.

In a nutshell, HI-FOG® cools the fire and the surroundings, blocks the radiant heat and eliminates the oxygen from the seat of the fire.

Smoke AlarmsQuell fire alarms use two main sensor types to detect fires in residential environments: ionisation and photoelectric. Quell also manufacture alarms specifically designed to detect the presence of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere. It is important that you consider your home environment and choose the right alarm for your room.

PHOTOELECTRIC SENSORSQuell’s range of photoelectric smoke alarms have been designed to detect the types of fires that can smoulder for hours before bursting into flames. Photoelectric sensors are capable of detecting the larger smoke particles produced by burning foam, rubber and synthetic materials.

IONISATION SENSORS Quell’s ionisation smoke alarms are designed to detect fast flaming fires as well as other fires that produce smaller smoke particles. Ionisation sensors are suitable for detecting burning paper, wood and flammable liquids.

Carbon Monoxide Smoke Alarm

Model Part number Description

PD04 130415 Carbon Monoxide Smoke Alarm

Carbon monoxide (CO) alarms detect the early presence of carbon monoxide emitted from gas sources such as heating and cooking systems, vehicle engines, fuels and blocked chimneys. CO alarms are intended to supplement conventional smoke alarms, not replace them. A CO alarm is not a smoke alarm and, therefore, will not satisfy legal requirements regarding the installation of smoke alarms in the home.
