History of Mozilla

On 23 Feb 1998, Netscape Communications Corp.

created a project called Mozilla (Mosaic + Godzilla).

Mozilla was launched 31 Mar 1998.

Mozilla’s Mission

Build the Internet as a global public

resource, open & accessible to all.

Firefox 101•Mozilla Firefox is a FREE and Open Source web browser.

•Initial release: 23 Sep 2002 & was called Phoenix (then Firebird). Became Firefox on 09 Feb 2004.

•Version 1 released 09 Nov 2004.

•Runs on the Gecko & SpiderMonkey engines.

•Uses the MPL (Mozilla Public License) 2.0

•As of Dec 2014, there are 500M users of Firefox worldwide.
