Meeting held at Panera Bread, Needham.Attending: Marie Austin; Craig Scherman; Jeanne Smith; Wayne Sposato; Su-san Huffman; John Bewick (via FaceTime).Call to order at 7:27 pm.

President: The fourteen people who attended the “The Moose is Loose” week-end said they had a very great time.

Membership: Marie emailed all the members who have not renewed to re-mind them to renew.

Vice President: We discussed menu for Holiday party.

Treasurer: Written report given.

Database: Six people have renewed their memberships since Craig sent Jeanne the update for the November Bean Pod.

Webmaster: The scholarship information needs to be updated with 2019 info.

Weekend: The Seasons Grille at the Ramada Plaza let us out of our contract to have a dinner/dance and buffet breakfasts. We had breakfast at the “Egg and I” restaurant, which is attached to the hotel. Saturday evening we attend-ed the Portland Symphony Pops “Sinatra Swing” concert. It was an excellent concert.

Our best estimate at this time is that the weekend broke even. Since we had hoped for 30 people and budgeted the breakeven point at 25 people, we are very fortunate that we did not lose more than $1000.

One thought about why we had so few people at the weekend is that it was the fourth tall club weekend since Labor Day. One possibility is to move the weekend back to May. We were thinking the second to last weekend in May, but Barry Ums is proposing a weekend then in 2019. So we need to find out whether that will be an annual event.

We discussed possible dates and sites for the next weekend. We are thinking that maybe we should skip a year, the idea being that more people might attend if our weekend was an every other year event. So spring or fall 2020.

“The Height of the Rooftop”

by Anna Notherwon(a friend of the Beanstalks)

Seasonal quiz: What are the names of Santa’s reindeer? All nine, his main team. Got it?

Okay, trick question: What’s the name of his other reindeer? What, you did not know he had an alternate, in case Comet got gas again? Did you know the team is all females? Granted, essentially all of them had non-gender specific names. .. Even Rudolph, with his nose so bright, did you ever actually see his antlers? I bet you didn’t know that reindeer are one of those un-usual creatures where the males lose and regrow their horns seasonally, whereas the females keep their racks year round! Think about it – Santa’s gals check the weather and Mapquest for updates to change course if needed AND manage the whole route in just one night without getting lost. Reminds me of some Black Friday shopping pals I know. BTW, Olive, the other reindeer, another feisty gal!

Being as this is the season of joy but also incredible stress and even frustration, why don’t we start a new project -- you do know that elves come in all shapes and sizes, even six-footers. (The pointed ears were mostly evolved.)

Why don’t we work on sharing some of that joy? Share smiles, offer help to someone in need, say something nice to a stranger – you get the idea. If we can ‘pay it forward’ and encourage others, this little corner of the world will be a happier place to live, and who knows how far it can reach? If you like the feeling, make it a longer-term investment, and remember that smile!!

BTW, a message from those Whos down in Whoville -- “It isn’t truly a hug unless you share it, so snuggle up!”

Happy Holidays, T’all!

Anna

[November minutes, continued from page 11.]

Possible sites would be:Portland Maine - the Portland Pops was very enjoyable.Provincetown, MA.Providence, RI – Ocean State Oyster Fest or Waterfire events. Mystic, Connecticut – visit Mystic Seaport and Mohegan Sun.Lincoln NH – The dinner train event at the 2008 weekend was a big hit.

Adjourned 8:20 pm.

To the Beanstalks from your editor: I regret not getting a November Bean Pod to you. My PC, which has the publishing software I use for the newsletter, did a spec-tacular fail at the end of October. I had hoped to get a plain-text newsletter to you, but between the wonderful BBTC weekend in Portland, ME, and a family emergency out of state I short-changed all of you. My apologies. Jeanne
