Lent is a season of penitence, self-denial, reflection, discipline, and sheer dependence on God. Many followers of Christ throughout history have fasted in one way or another in order to focus more intentionally on God’s providence as was experienced by Israel in the wilderness and Christ in the desert.

Last year, the Mission Team at FUMC was inspired by the idea of giving up our time (one of the most precious gifts from God) in order to serve others in need. So began the “Giving (Up)” movement. Over one hundred twenty people gave up at least an hour of their time to work at the HUB Club, serve a meal at RIFA’s soup kitchen, help with repairs and landscaping at the Care Center for Women and Children, share hospitality with those who are homeless at Room in the Inn, and provide other acts of mercy. It was one of the most meaningful seasons of Lent I can remember.

“sweat equity” in their home upon completion?

• FUMC donates 50 volunteer hours toward the recipients 500 “sweat equity” hours when we work?

• Recipients are SOLD their Habitat home at construction cost with 0% interest and a 30 year mortgage?

• The Habitat Organization teaches budgeting and other life skills relative to home ownership?

• Kick-Off is Saturday, March 23!

Can You Help to Build Up?• PRAY – Be a prayer warrior for our

recipient family, our volunteer builders and FUMC’s ministry through Habitat for Humanity.

• BUILD – Sign up to frame, roof, install windows/doors, hang vinyl siding, paint or clean up. No skills required – “on the job training” guaranteed! Kick off March 23!

• FEED – Help provide meals and snacks for the work teams.

• GIVE – Donate to provide various necessities to help with this project.

This year, our church is building its eighteenth house through Habitat for Humanity. We’ve decided to “give up again” and all of the focus is around the building of this house and sharing Christ’s love with the family that will receive it. The Mission Team hopes to double the response from last year with at least three hundred people giving up for Habitat. Every individual in our church can participate in this project in some way. Whether you pray, build, feed, or give please be a part of what God is doing this Lent at FUMC.

Fill out your Giving (Up) Card and return it to the Habitat display in Disciple Hall by Sunday, March 3rd or fill out a card online at www.jacksonfumc.org. Imagine what God will do with what you give up this Lent.

Music NotesDarian Krimm, Director of Music and Worship Arts

This dramatic musical experience for Holy Week will retell the story of the Last Supper shared by Jesus and the disciples. It will include music by choir and orchestra as well as dramatic presentation by actors portraying Jesus and the disciples. Actors will be in biblical costume and will deliver monologues from the perspective of each individual disciple.
