Star ng Saturday, June 1, we will go to our Summer schedule of worship at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. on Sundays. For the past several years we have used the same service for‐mat at both worship mes. This year we will be trying something different. We will have two different services each week, one our tradi onal service and the other a more contemporary service. We will be trying some different styles of contemporary services. We will also try holding some of the contemporary services in the Fellowship Hall. Most weekends over the Summer we will have the contemporary service on Saturday evening and the tradi onal service on Sunday morning. However, we will have a few contemporary services on Sunday morning over the Summer (with a tradi onal service on those Saturdays). In our survey last year a number of members said they wanted us to have contemporary services. We thought this would be the best way to try some different styles and see what people find most meaningful. Our inten on is to work to help people have opportuni es to worship using styles they find most meaningful. I want to be clear that we will be trying some different things this Summer to see how they go. Depending on what we learn over the Summer we will decide then how we want to move forward Pastor Bruce
Mothers’ Day will be Sunday, May 12th this year. For so many of us, our mothers played a
vital role in our faith development. We will honor all mothers who are present at our services, as well as our mothers, and those who are like mothers to us.
This year we will hold our Sunday School Awards Program at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 12th. This is always such a wonderful me. The children and youth in our Sunday School program are honored and their Secret Pals are revealed. Please plan to join us as we honor our children and youth.
On Sunday, May 26th, which is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, we will just have one service at 9 a.m. Don’t forget about Plano Building Community’s Home Makeover Memorial Day weekend.
May is also a me for gradua ons. We have a list of those gradua ng from High School this year, but please let us know about any members who might be gradua ng from college.
Once again this year we will host a joint Vaca on Bible School with First Bap st Church and Plano United Methodist Church. This year we will have VBS June 10th through June 14th. Our theme will be “Everywhere Fun Fair”. This year our VBS will be for ½ day – 9 a.m. to noon, each day. Registra on forms are available on

MAY LIBRARY NEWS
Many books have been published about heaven and near-death experiences. New to our library is “To Heaven and Back” by Mary C. Neal, M.D. In 1999, she drowned in a kayak accident is South America. She was under water for so long that she actually died. Her experience from life to death to heaven and back is truly a miracle. Her life has been changed by this, and yours may be also after reading this book. It is of particular interest that she is a woman of science. She is an orthopedic surgeon who lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Don’t forget to wish your Mother (and all Mothers) a “Happy Mother’s Day”! Enjoy the books we have about and for mothers.
IT TAKES A MOTHER
It takes a Mother’s LOVE to make a house a home, A place to be remembered, no ma er where we roam…. It takes a Mother’s PATIENCE to bring a child up right,
And her COURAGE and her CHEERFULNESS to make a dark day bright
It takes a Mother’s KINDNESS to forgive us when we err, To sympathize in trouble and bow her head in prayer…. It takes a Mother’s WISDOM to recognize our needs,
And to give us reassurance by her loving words and deeds….
It takes a Mother’s ENDLESS FAITH, her CONFIDENCE AND TRUST To guide us through the pi alls, of selfishness and lust.
And that is why in all this world there can never be another Who will fulfill God’s purpose ……as completely as a MOTHER.

Those not named here who are in need of prayers,
- Also remember to pray for those who are closest to you and pray for yourself and your needs.
God has not promised skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways, all our lives
through. God has not promised sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
But God has promised strength for the
day, Rest for the laborers, light on the way; Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

New Prayer Chain Guidelines for Reques ng a Prayer
be added to the Prayer Chain ANYONE may request a Prayer for ANYTHING they deem necessary or gives them cause for concern. Please call with the Church office at 630.552.8263 or the first person on the Prayer Chain.
Please keep the prayer request as simple as possible: Name of person prayer requested for and reason. It is not necessary to go into a detailed message. God knows what is needed; we are simply the vessel to request His care. This will also help to keep the prayer request accurate as it passes down the list to members of the Prayer Partners.
There no longer is a Day and Night Chain (one chain only). Calls can be made between 8:30am – 8:30pm. Note those listed in italics1— they have the capability to receive text messages, and they have requested to be part of the chain in this manner. Please contact Theresa Bagg with ques ons.

Edie’s Team First Will Once Again Be Most Humbled to Accept Donations For Relay For Life
Current Registered Team members are: Dale Torkelson, Team Captain Theresa Bagg Jerri Lynn Baker Erin Gillman Rebecca Klatt Martin Lincoln Valerie Lincoln Carol Robinson Diane Schlesinger Mary Torkelson
(First Lutheran member Aden Baker is registered as well, but with Team Amethyst. with his brother Levi Baker, as Team Captain.)
Each individual is responsible for their own fundraising activities. Some members currently have some things going on to help in their fundraising: Dale Torkelson and his daughter in law, Mary Torkelson will be selling Japanese
Floating Lanterns the night of the event. They will be set off as part of the Lu-minaria ceremony. This is a fundraising activity they did last year and watching the lanterns floating through the sky in memory of a loved one, were a beautiful touch.
Jerri Lynn Baker’s fundraising activities include “TO BUZZ or NOT TO BUZZ “: With each dollar donated in her name, individuals have the opportunity to vote on whether or not she should or shouldn’t buzz her hair off at the Fight Back Ceremony at midnight the night of the event. You can come out the night of the event to see how the vote went, but right now the “To Buzz” is winning the election by a landslide. She is also raffling 2 porcelain dolls (donated by Terry & MaryAnn Whitney).
Shirley Krause is raffling a Queen size quilt—tickets available beginning May 5th. Aden Baker has been selling “Retro” floating pens as part of his fundraising
activities.
If you would like to make a donation, please make your checks payable to the ‘American Cancer Society’ and give the check to whatever Team Member you want the donation to go towards. Team members will be available during the Coffee hours in May, providing the goodies for each Sunday in May as a Thank you for your continued support. We encourage you and invited you to come out and see for yourself this wonderful event. You do not have to on our team or any other team to be a part of the Opening Ceremony, Survivor’s Lap, Caregiver’s Lap, Luminaria Ceremony or the Midnight Fight Back Ceremony. If you have questions about the event please ask one of our Team Members. This year’s event will be held at Sandwich High School’s Track (or indoors with inclement weather), Friday evening, June 21st beginning at 6:00pm. Please support the members of First Lutheran’s “Edie’s Team First”: Go to: www.relayforlife.org/pssil and look for “Edie’s Team First” link!
