The First Great Russian Architect
DOMENICO TREZZINI- He was one of the first major architects brought in by Peter the Great to help build St. Petersburg.-He had a major role in many of the early buildings that would have an important role in the city.-He would help develop a new way Russian buildings would be built which severed ties with traditional building styles and would more work with contemporary western buildings.
PETER AND PAUL FORTRESS
Trezzini, who had studied French Fortress building would use these ideas to large affect on this project.
Peter and Paul Cathedral
Another work designed and built by Domenico Trezzini
Cabin of Peter the Great
Designed with the idea of Dutch Architecture that Peter the Great had a great admiration for.
The 3rd Winter Palace
Built on the remains of the 2nd Winter Palace.
Today is one of the largest and most renowned museums in the world.
Alexander Nevsky Monastery
Had many great architects affect the final outcome of the building by 1790.
Including Trezzini, architects included Ivan Starov, and German architect Theodor Schwertfeger.
Conclusion
Domenico Trezzini was a major contributor to the major changes brought to St. Petersburg and would have a lasting appeal on Russian architecture til today.
He would also help create a Russian Builder group that would last for over 200 years and be a major contributor to buildings throughout that great period of time.
