If your child is interested in taking part in
this exciting opportunity, fill out the form on
this flap and return it to Notre Dame High
School. Within a few days of receiving your
reply, your child will receive a telephone call
from one of our band officers to discuss
“the student view” of our music program. If
you have any questions for me, you can give
a message to the student officer or contact
me at the high school via the phone number
or e-mail on the back of this brochure. I
hope to see your child at camp this summer.
Musically,
Mr. Albert J. Shimkus, Jr.

Your child is invited to be a part of the
Notre Dame High School Band Program!
The Notre Dame High School Music
Department has designed a program that is
educational, but also a great deal of fun.
Elementary students have the opportunity to
participate in some facets of the Band
Program, while high school students can
enroll in our credited band class.
The program is divided into four performing
ensemble types:
Students between 7th and 12th grades are
eligible to be part of the marching band. This
group performs at all of the football games
and will potentially march in local parades
and participate in regional band competitions.
Students participate in a “band camp” during
three weeks in August to prepare marching,
music and drill for the year’s show. The word
that best describes this ensemble is
“Discipline.” This band contains a level of
intensity and excitement that goes unmatched
in any other performing ensemble. But to
achieve this, the students must work together
and strive to be as one.
Students between 8th and 12th grades are eligible
to be part of the color guard. The word that best
describes this group is “Spark,” because this
group is the visual flair for the marching band in
all their performances. They also work as a
separate performance group throughout the
winter and spring. If you are interested in silks,
rifles and dance, this is the group for you.
Students between 9th and 12th grades are
eligible to be part of the concert band. This
ensemble rehearses during the band period and
performs with Music Ministry at Mass as well as
winter and spring concerts at Notre Dame High
School. The word that best describes this
ensemble is "Heart." This is where students learn
the most about music and themselves as players.
Students between 9th and 12th grades are eligible
to be part of small ensembles such as Jazz Band,
Rock Band and Percussion Ensemble. These
groups will perform at a concert in the spring
and will potentially tour our local elementary
schools. The word that best describes these
groups is “Fun.” The students take the
“Discipline” from marching band and the
“Heart” from concert band, then sit back and
have a good time.
“There is nothing more fulfilling than to watch students
grow over the course of their school careers from wide-eyed
newbies to wonderful senior leaders.”

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED CYO TRICKY TRAY
Dear parents: As you know the one of the CYO’s biggest fundraisers - Tricky Tray - is right around the corner and your help is needed! In addition to the coordination of all the prizes and drawings, the CYO will also be operating the kitchen during this event selling multiple food items. I am appealing to you to take part in our annual Tricky Tray by volunteering your time to help prepare for this exciting event. The St. Jane’s Catholic Youth Organization is responsible for many of the extracurricular activities offered for all the children of our parish. These activities range from Academic Bowl and Declamation to the numerous sporting activities our children participate in throughout the school year. It is with your generous support that we can raise the funds needed to continue these activities and, in turn, enrich the lives of our children. The CYO only has 2 fundraisers per year to raise the necessary funds to keep all of our activities going and our costs as low as possible; that being said, I (as the social director) cannot do this alone. I will be having a meeting on Tuesday 6/7/2016 in Father Farrell Hall (FFH) at 6:30 PM to get started on building the committees needed to make this year’s Tricky Tray a success. There are so many opportunities to volunteer, I am sure we will have something that will work for you and fit into your busy family schedules. Please stop by the meeting or contact me @ [email protected] or (610) 597-9678 with any questions you may have. Sincerely, Gena Fortner CYO Social Director

Interested in private music lessons? Learn all the fundamentals about piano performance, music theory, and music history from the comfort of your own home. (Students must provide their own keyboard.) Students will have the opportunity to also perform in various public venues such as Gracedale Nursing Home and various competitions that the MTNA holds through out the year. Lessons are $28 for half hour $42 for 45 minutes. Tuition fee is paid in monthly increments at the first lesson of each month. The cost for books and other lesson materials is included with the tuition fee. The piano series I use is: "Piano Adventures" series by Nancy and Randall Faber. The books include Theory, Lesson, Performance. I also use John Schaum's "Fingerpower" series for finger dexterity exercise. If interested, please consult the information listed below.
