RETROUVAILLE

If your marriage has become troubled and stressed,

unloving or uncaring; if you have grown cold and

distant; even if you are divorced or separated, or are

thinking about it; Retrouvaille can help. It has helped

thousands. Our next program begins January 26, 2018. For

more information call 352-274-4614. Not counseling or group

therapy. All calls and names held in strictest confidence. And

please check our website at Retrouvaille.org.

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE PROGRAM

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

Our giving tree for the poor and needy in our

area is up in the Narthex. For those who do

not use this entrance, tables are set up in the

North and South entrances of the church with

tags on them.

Each tag will have a number identifying the

family, the first name and age of the child. Each child will have a

total of 4 tags on the tree, which includes: 2 separate tags for

clothing; a tag for a $35 shoe gift card; a tag for a gift card or toy

of their choice. It is very important that you tape the tag with the

information face up on the top of the wrapped package or attach

to the bike, then place them under or near the tree in the

Narthex. Gift cards can be placed in the red box next to the tree.

We request that once you take a tag, please make a copy of

it, or write down the information, as we have no way to track

lost tags without the family number and the child’s name.

Please be advised that we are the only area organization that

provides gifts to teenagers up to the age of 17. Please consider

taking tags for these children as this may be the last Christmas

they receive gifts.

Also, it would be very helpful if each tag has a gift receipt

enclosed in case the family needs to exchange the item, or in

the case of gift cards, an “activation confirmation” and for

Payless gift cards an ”inquiry receipt”.

The gifts need to be returned to the Giving Tree No later than

Wednesday, December 13.

Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting this most

worthwhile project. If you have any question, please contact

Peggy Harrop @ 751-5604.

CATHOLIC ADULT EDUCATION CORNER

As we prepare for Advent, we will use this time to

examine key tenets of the faith related to Advent

and Christmas. We begin with: “Why Do Catholics

Pray for Jesus’ Second Coming?”

Unlike some Protestant faiths, Catholics do not anticipate the

destruction of the world when Christ returns. Rather, what God

has created he will bring to completion, a “new heavens and a

new earth” (Revelation 21). The world will be as it should be

with Christ as the Lord of all things. In this Kingdom of God,

justice will be given to all based on their adherence to the moral

law, sorrow and death will be definitively defeated, love will

characterize human interactions, and the faithful will experience

full communion with the Trinity. This time of fulfillment is

something Catholics look forward to and pray for when we pray:

“thy Kingdom come, thy will be done.” Instead of dreading

Christ’s return, we anticipate it with joy.

(For more on Advent Spirituality, come Fridays from 9:30-11:00 AM in

the Ministry Building).

FATIMA AND HOPE

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official

teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

MARY OUR MOTHER

We have a Mother! "So beautiful a Lady", as the

seers of Fatima said to each other as they

returned home on that blessed day of May 13 a

hundred years ago.

GOD’S LIGHT OVERCOMES DARKNESS

Our Lady foretold, and warned us about, a way of life that is

godless and indeed profanes God in His creatures. Such a life

— frequently proposed and imposed— risks leading to hell. Mary

came to remind us that God's light dwells within us and protects

us ... According to the belief and experience of many pilgrims,

...Fatima is more than anything this mantle of Light that protects

us, here as in almost no other place on earth.

LIVE IN HOPE

... We have a Mother, we have a Mother! Clinging to her like

children, we live in the hope that rests on Jesus.

JESUS OUR HOPE

When Jesus ascended to heaven, He brought to the Heavenly

Father our humanity ... Like an anchor, let us fix our hope on that

humanity, seated in heaven at the right hand of the Father ...

May this hope guide our lives! It is a hope that sustains us

always, to our dying breath.

GIVING THANKS

Confirmed in this hope, we have gathered here to give thanks for

the countless graces bestowed over these past hundred years.

All of them passed beneath the mantle of light that Our Lady has

spread over the four corners of the earth ...

PRAY WITH HOPE

... Let us pray to God with the hope that others will hear us; and

let us speak to others with the certainty that God will help us.

BE A SOURCE OF HOPE

... God created us to be a source of hope for others, a true and

attainable hope, in accordance with each person's state of life. In

"asking" and "demanding" of each of us the fulfillment of the

duties of our proper state (Letters of Sister Lucia, February 28,

1943), God effects a general mobilization against the

indifference that chills the heart and worsens our myopia.

DON’T LET HOPE BE STILLBORN

We do not want to be a stillborn hope! Life can survive only

because of the generosity of other lives.

LET THE LIGHT SHINE

With Mary's protection, may we be for our world sentinels of the

dawn, contemplating the true face of Jesus the Savior,

resplendent at Easter. Thus may we rediscover the young and

beautiful face of the Church, which shines forth when she is

missionary, welcoming, free, faithful, poor in means and rich in

love.
