Polar Cruises • Cruise market in increasing, and also interest for the polar regions is on the rise.
• Expedition type cruises have been carried out for a long time.• Majority of them in ”small scale” operations.• Cruise prices vary a lot, starting from few thousands up to 40 000 USD for the North Pole voyages.
• Today the capability will be increasing, as many new polar class cruise vessel’s are coming into market.

Polar Cruises – existing fleet• There are about 80 vessels in the market what can be considered to operate in the polar market.
• Vessels are old.• Generally low iceclass or then icebreakers used as cruisers.• New vessel’s in order are 14-‐15, with fairly high passenger capacity.• Overall capacity will increase by 2019 about 40%.

Polar Cruises – existing fleet– ice class• Generally low iceclass or then real icebreakers.• 60% of the fleet has lower iceclass than 1A.
What can we expect on arctic/polaractivities
• Arctic oil will be problematic but LNG production and need is going to rise• US is actively preparing for the new Polar Icebreakers• Canada has established a fleet renewal plan• Russia is continuing its arctic strategy and vessel programs (informed cuts last week)• High expectations for increased traffic for the Northern Sea Route and Cruises• New regulations, EEDI, BWM, IMO Marpol, HFO restriction, Polar Code regs.
