A Message from the CHAI Board President and CHAI CEO

In 2018, CHAI made important improvements to aid in our mission to provide meaningful quality programs for the CHAI residents and clients. Some of the enhancements include increased community participation, completing renovationstosixofourhomes, movingintoanewCHAIoffice, meetingfundraisingandfiscalperformance targets, increased communications betweenstaffandfamilies, andprovidingmoresocial activities for our residents.

This year CHAI is having its 36-year (double-CHAI) birthday. As CHAI celebrates more birthdays, so do our residents. CHAI formed a taskforce in 2017 to ensure continuity of support allowing residents to live safely and with dignity for as long as CHAI can provide the best level of care. As home renovations occurred, improvements that make the facilities more usable as our resident’s age (i.e. remodeled bathrooms with low step showers) were a focus in the process. A grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas has allowed us to add a full-time RN and a part-time LVN to the CHAI staff.Thiswillincreasequalityofcareandincreasecommunicationsbetween guardians, residents, staff, and themedical professionalsthatsupportourclients.CHAIisstaffingoneofthehomestosupportresidentsofhigherneed.TheCEO’sfromCHAI,JewishFamilyService,Jewish Federation and Legacy Senior Communities now meet several times per year to make sure these community partners are aware of the needs of CHAI residents.

Through improvements at the Levy homes, CHAI has added the capability to serve two additional residents starting in 2019. CHAI has also added to the number of clients served through the Host Home program where CHAI administers all CHAI services with the exceptionofhousing.

CHAI achieved another consecutive year of successful fiscalperformance and that is no small task. Our Annual Campaign as well asourspecialevent, theCHAILifeattheStar, bothexceededtheirfundraising targets. This accomplishment, as well as sound budgetary managementbyourstaff,enabledCHAItocoveritscostsin2018.CHAI continues to be dependent on the generosity of donors. CHAI’s costs continue to rise and 2018 Government funding to support CHAI’s programs remained lower than the amount reimbursed in 2010.

We hope you will all help support CHAI this year and join us for our CHAI Life event at Reunion Tower on Sunday June 2nd. With your support, ourresidentswillLivetheCHAILIFEallday, everyday, allyear long.

Volunteers and Community involvement continue to bring meaning and increased quality of life to our residents. With your participation, the CHAI resident and non-resident clients continue their growth. Our residentsandstaffappreciateyourdedicationandcontinuedsupport!

Thank you all for supporting CHAI,

David Romick Lisa BrodskyBoardPresident ChiefExecutiveOfficer

Community Homes for Adults, Inc. (CHAI) is a non-sectarian, non-profitcorporationunderJewishauspices that provides programs and services to enable adults with intellectual disabilities to live full, rich lives in a safe environment and to meaningfully participate in the community.

For36years,CHAIhasfulfilledthis mission serving families in the community.

Often those who are caring for a loved one with an intellectual disability will ask:

“Who will take care of my adult child (or sibling) when I no longer can?”

CHAI has been there to answer: “We will” for many families over the past few decades. With the support of our generous donors, we will be able to continue to do so for years into the future. On behalf of those families we say: “Thank You!”
