Sadly, each year we lose some of our cherished artists. This year,we honor six long-time memberswho made a lasting impression inand to our community. Their work, shown below, highlights the manytalents of our Guild Artists.

can often be viewed in Gallery exhibitions. We continue to honor our

heritage by expanding the bordersof our contemporary exhibitions to include recognized emergingartists from across the UnitedStates to exhibit at Silvermine. These exhibitions highlight currentart trends and broaden the community’s understanding andappreciation of art by bringingsome of the most influential pundits in contemporary art toFairfield County.

New MembersEach year the Guild is honored towelcome into its ranks a competi-tively selected group of new artistmembers. Since its inception,Guild membership has been a juried process based on the qualityof the artists’ submitted works andprofessional achievements. OurGuild members have attained a superior level of technical and creative accomplishment asdemonstrated by numerous groupand solo exhibitions, awards, publications, commercial galleryrepresentation and inclusion in museum and corporate collections. This year forty-three new

members were selected in a widerange of artistic media. “This exhibition showcases Silvermine’snewest members’ exploration of materials, arresting captures ofnature’s forms and patterns, vibrant use of color and light, andsingular re-imaginings of the figurein sculptural and painted form,”said Roger Mudre, Gallery Director at Silvermine. “We’re delighted to welcome such a strong newgroup to the Guild.”

Since 1906 when visionary sculptor Solon Borglum movedto Silvermine and held annual exhibitions in his studio and weeklycritiques called the Knockers Club,Silvermine has been a place forartists to gather.

In 1922 The Silvermine Guild of Artists was formed and later incorporated as a not-for-profit to provide a permanency to thecommunity of artists.Silvermine has a 97-year

reputation of exhibiting and involving art luminaries such asJoseph Albers, Gabor Peterdi, Milton Avery, Elaine deKooning,Clement Greenberg, Louise Nevelson, Larry Rivers, Jeanne-Claude and Christo, James Rosenquist, Chuck Close, PhilipJohnson—and the list goes on. Today, the Guild is comprised

of over 300 professional artistswho enhance and change the waywe experience art. Widely respected and highly collectible, their multi-disciplined work

It’s still a placewhere artists’imaginations andvisions rule.
