Our current message series, What Disciples Do, will conclude on Sunday, October 27. In a collective effort to flesh

out this message series, things will be a little different on this last Sunday of October. We will gather for worship at

our normal time of 10:55 a.m. and then depart to serve our community by 11:30 a.m. Various mission projects are

currently being planned that will provide the entire church body several options for service on this day. Missions

begins during worship with an opportunity to give to our State Missions Offering, followed by a diverse selection of

mission projects in the greater Boiling Springs community and we will conclude the day with a Fish Fry benefiting the

food pantry and other local mission endeavors.

More details regarding this special day will be available each Sunday as we move closer to October 27. Sign up sheets

for various mission opportunities will be located either down front in the sanctuary or in the vestibule beginning

Sunday, October 6. A coordinator will be listed for each project and will be communicating with those who sign up.

Plan on joining with others from BSBC to share and show God’s love with our community!

On another note, as we move into the fall, our regular church budget is needing your prayerful consideration. If you have missed giving during the summer weeks and can give to help with our current needs, please do so. From our Associate Pastor for Music & Adults…

Adult Ministry Fall Plans On October 10 the Adult Ministry will be sponsoring a trip to Flat Rock Playhouse to see Smoke on the Mountain which is an “inspiring, funny, and endearing musical celebration of bluegrass, gospel, and hymns. Set in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina around 1938, Smoke on the Mountain takes audiences back to an old-time musical revival with beloved songs such as ‘Rock of Ages,’ ‘The Church in the Wildwood,’ and ‘A Wonderful Time Up There.’ Audiences can expect to tap their toes along with traditional and uplifting music that brings us all together." Reservations are now closed. We will meet at the church at 11:30 am to travel to the Playhouse and will have an early dinner after the musical.

Our regular October gathering will be held on Tuesday, October 22 in the Fellowship Hall at 12:30 pm. Flu shots and blood pressure checks will be available in the LEC beginning at 11:30 am and we will have a brief health presentation from our Parish Nurse Committee during our meal. Our theme of the day will be a tailgate party. If you are willing to decorate a table in your favorite team’s colors, please let me know now. If you can contribute a tailgate dish, soup, chili, fixings, or dessert please let me know that, also. Following our meal, we will head over to the sanctuary for a piano concert by Helen Gilliatte. Mrs. Gilliatte is a former organist at First Baptist of Shelby. A longtime Shelby resident, Gilliatte is a native of Boston, Massachusetts, where she met her husband Dr. Lee Gilliatte, a retired Shelby pediatrician. She has played the piano for 73 years and got her start on the instrument by taking lessons at age 7 after listening to a Christian radio station out of Long Beach, California. Please call the church no later than October 17 to sign-up for the tailgate party and concert.

Music Ministry Update Mark your calendars now for the Sanctuary Choir’s presentation of the special Christmas musical entitled Go Sing It On the Mountain during Sunday morning worship on December 15. Employing a highly-inventive mixture of mountain melodies, folk hymns, spirituals, familiar carols, and original music that is sure to surprise and delight, Go Sing It on the Mountain proclaims the good news from the prophet Isaiah's proclamation, "Comfort, O comfort my people,” to the final exuberant celebration: “Joy to the World! Christ is born!" The choir will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra which includes woodwinds, brass, percussion, and a variety of string instruments including banjo and mandolin. Our next bonus rehearsal is Sunday, October 20, 2:00-4:00 pm and you are invited to join us! If you have any questions, contact Candy Wilson.

In God’s service with you, Candy

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION DAY

SUNDAY SCHOOL HIGH ATTENDANCE GOAL: 219

OCTOBER 6, 2019

On October 6, 2019, plan on celebrating with us “Christian Education Day” as we honor the teachers who lead our efforts in Sunday school, music programs, and missions education. We will have a special worship service planned to reaffirm our commitment to our personal growth through corporate Christian education. In the month of October, express your personal thanks to our leadership who guide us week by week. A special luncheon is planned for those teachers and leaders. Sunday School classes have provided an attendance goal for their classes. We invite you to participate and pray with us as we renew our commitment to Christian spiritual growth and as we say thank you to our leaders.

When The Cup of Cold Water Ministry began, we had many individuals volunteer to help others in our church and community when needs arose. Some of these people are no longer able to help, being those in need themselves. This is a wonderful ministry of listening, going and helping with needs of others. If you would be interested in helping with any of the following areas: Transportation (to doctor or various appointments), Yard Maintenance (leaves, gutters, trees), House Maintenance (small repairs, house cleaning), Miscellaneous Records (small financial duties, note writing), Safety Checks (in and outside the house/yard), Emotional/Spiritual Needs (Reading the Bible, Praying, Encouraging), or Miscellaneous Deeds, please call the church office so we can place you on a team to call upon if a person is in need.

Four years ago, in October, we dreamed a dream together…to build a children and pre-school ministry. The dream was to have a ministry that would be welcoming to young families with little children and to prepare our children to grow in Christ. As we welcome new families into our church with babies and little ones I thought about God’s gift to this church…. we are building a dream. A dream that is growing with each new birth and each new family that reaches out for a place where their child/children can learn and feel God’s love.

My grandmother once shared with me that it didn’t matter exactly where you worshipped but that you worshiped. She taught me how valuable the Lords Word was to her each day. Her spot was not only for a daily Bible reading but also the Lord’s Prayer. The message carried through generations as the same book was always beside my mom. Growing up, church was not an option, but it didn’t need to be. We knew the importance of trusting and listening to God’s Word. I think my mom and my grandmother would twinkle now and say that God’s love has brought me where I need to be right now! Share what you love with others. Share that love freely and don’t hide your love and your gifts given by God. All of us need to be doing that by sharing our love and our gifts with our families and especially with our children and little ones! They may not understand but they can see our faces and hear the simple stories and know that God is with them. Look at your gifts. They may be as simple as rocking a toddler on Sunday morning or being a floater on Wednesday nights. Whatever your gifts, share them! Your impact may make that difference. Someone made that difference for you!

Fall will quickly be upon us and we have several fun activities coming up for our Pre-K, children, and families to enjoy. On October 26, we are going to have a Pumpkin Palooza for all children to come and decorate a pumpkin, do Halloween activities, and enjoy snacks. October 30, Halloween Eve, we will have Shine Your Light for Jesus Fall Festival with pizza, stews, games, and activities in the LEC. At the end of the evening we will have a Trunk or Treat. Dress up in your best non-scary costume and come and have fun and fellowship with our friends and family. Bring a friend and enjoy a safe evening.

Dream…. hold a newborn baby and feel the warmth and love that God shares and gives to us. Go back in time, maybe just a day, and think of someone who impacted your faith. Quietly say thank you.

Thank you, Boiling Springs Baptist for giving me the opportunity to hug and love on all our children!

Miss Ellen
