Commercial and the Aquaculture subsectors contributed 33.65 percent and 22.33

percent respectively, during the same quarter in 2016.

COMMERCIAL FISHERIES PRODUCTION

Commercial fisheries in Camarines Sur

posted negative growth for the 4th Quarter of

2016 as compared with the same quarter in

2015. Total Commercial fisheries production

declined by 1,145.23 metric tons or 17.08

percent from 6,703.43 metric tons in 2015 to

only 5,558.20 metric tons in 2016

.

Based on the 4th quarter Fisheries Production Survey (FPS) the decrease in the

commercial fish production can attributed to the non-operation of many fishing

vessels due to the stricter implementation of the Republic Act No. 10654 which led to

apprehensions of unregistered fishing vessels, unlicensed crews, and encroachment

in municipal waters.

The major fish catch in the province during the 4th quarter of 2016 was Roundscad

(Galunggong) contributing 36.01 percent or 2,001.27 metric tons to the total

Commercial fish production. Completing the top six fish catch are Fimbriated

Sardines (Tu nsoy) which accounted for 27.8% of the total production, Achioves

(Dilis) 11 percent, Frigate Tuna (Tulingan) 7.75 percent, Indian Mackerel (Alumahan)

of fishing boats with a capacity

of more than three (3) gross

Marine Municipal Fisheries Production in Camarines Sur declined by 3.70 percent

from 6,820.77 metric tons in 4th quarter of 2015 to 6,567.90 metric tons in the same

quarter in 2016. The occurrence of tropical storms, northeast monsoon wind and

rains during the last part of 2016 limited the fishing operations and fishing trips

according to the respondents of the survey.

Among the marine fish species produced under the Marine Municipal Fisheries,

Anchovies (Dilis) accounted for 24.16 percent (1,586.96 metric tons). The other

dominant catch includes Indian Mackerel at 11.02 percent (724.04 metric tons),

Fimbriated Sardines at 8.62 percent (566.24 metric tons), Siganid at 7.63 percent

(500.92 metric tons), and Frigate Tuna at 5.66 percent (371.61 metric tons).

From a total production of 771.13 metric tons in the 4th quarter in 2015, Inland

Municipal Fisheries production dropped 8.82 percent to 703.09 metric tons in the

same period in 2016. Based on the survey the decline in production was due to the

noted shift of some fishermen to non-farming and farming activities, less fishing

effort, and reduced number of fishing days.

The major species produced in Inland Municipal Fisheries are: Tilapia 54.34 percent

or 382.05 metric tons, Carp 34.08 percent or 239.64 metric tons, Silver Perch

(Ayungin) 2.58 percent or 18.11 metric tons, Mudfish (dalag) 2.40 percent or 16.86

metric tons and Catfish (Kanduli) 2.07 percent or 14.57 metric tons.

AQUACULTURE Aquaculture Production in the Province of

Camarines Sur registered a slight

decrease of 1.38 percent for the 4th

quarter of 2016 as compared to the same

quarter of 2015. From a registered

production of 3,738.33 metric tons in

2015, the Aquaculture production for this

year decreased to 3,687.32 metric tons. While the Fisheries Production Survey of

2016 revealed that Brackishwater and Freshwater fishpond registered a positive

growth of 9.32 percent, and 15.78 percent, respectively, it was not enough to offset

the negative growth registered in Freshwater Fishcage and Seaweeds production

which recorded a decrease of 5.77 percent, and 3.81 percent, respectively.
